BAF Shaheen College Dhaka Alumni Association - ESAD

In March 2008, a group of former students got together and planned to organize the grand reunion of BAF Shaheen College Dhaka. To materialize the plan, they started working to form the Alumni Association as a result, the Ex Shaheens Association Dhaka - ESAD was formed in 2008. However, ESAD got its formal shape and official recognition in July 2010 through registration with the Ministry of Social Welfare. Ex Shaheens Association Dhaka - ESAD is a non-profit organization that aims to foster fellowship and goodwill among its members which includes individuals who attended BAF Shaheen School / College Dhaka from 1960 until to date. History

It was around 1960 when the school was thought to be established especially for the children of Air Force personnel. PAF Officer Group Captain Bhogar was the then-base officer-in-command of the Pakistan Air Force and also the officer-in-charge of civil aviation. At that time, all the officers and employees of the Pakistan Air Force, Army, Civil Aviation, and PIA (Pakistan International Airlines) were West Pakistani and Urdu speakers. Therefore, everyone felt the need for English-medium schools in Dhaka to eliminate the education problems of the children of Air Force officers and employees. Flight Lieutenant (Directorate of Education) AJM Khalil Ullah, who later obtained his Barrister-at-Law degree from Lincoln's Inn, England, and became better known as Barrister Khalil Ullah, was appointed as the founder president of the school. This act of establishing the school was a very bold step. At this stage, the school has to be in jeopardy with a worthwhile name. Finally, Sergeant Zakaria came forward with a suitable name. He proposed the name Shaheen, and it was immediately accepted. "Shaheen" is an Urdu word meaning eagle, which is very compatible with the Air Force. Various plans and reviews were carried out regarding the financing of school management and the construction of buildings. And all these plans are dedicated to life as a flight lieutenant. J. M. Khalilullah became a reality under his able leadership. Although initially the school was established for the children of Air Force personnel, later it was introduced for the children of different classes and occupations of civilians. S. A. Ahmed was the first principal of the school. The school started with only 34 students. First the squash court and later the sergeant's mess, camp mosque, and radar building were used as school buildings. The Broadcasting Room of Civil Aviation is given the facility to be used as the office of the principal. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense allotted the land for the present school building to the school authority. Thus, on March 1, 1960, one morning, Group Captain Voger and Flight Lieutenant A. J. The small dream that M. Khalilullah had today turned into a milestone.

The institution was established on March 1, 1960, in Jahangir Gate, Dhaka Cantonment, Dhaka, Bangladesh, for the children of Air Force personnel as Shaheen School, an English-medium school. Later in 1967, Bengali was introduced along with English. Meanwhile, Shaheen School was renamed “Shaheen High School” and within a few years was recognized by the Board of Higher Secondary Education, Dhaka. After the Bangladesh war of independence in 1971, the Bangladesh Air Force rebuilt the Institution. In the academic year 1977–78, Shaheen High School was renamed “BAF Shaheen College Dhaka” for the purpose of upgrading it to a higher secondary college. A degree (pass course) was introduced in the academic year 1990–91, and since then, BAF Shaheen College has continued to function as a degree college. However, the degree was abolished in the academic year 2006-07. The college auditorium, Shaheen Hall, was built in 2002–2005. At present, the college conducts educational programs from infants to class 12 as per the rules of the Directorate of Primary Education, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, and the Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education. The college is co-educational. Co-curricular activities are running here. In the academic year 2006, the English version was introduced along with Bengali medium according to the educational policy of the National Curriculum and Textbook Board.

Originally English-medium, Bangla-medium was introduced in parallel in 1967. After the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971, the school was renamed as BAF Shaheen High School. BAF Shaheen High School was renamed BAF Shaheen College Dhaka when it began offering intermediate courses in 1977. The college has classes from kindergarten to Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC). Shaheen High School was renamed as B A F Shaheen College Dhaka for opening intermediate level from 1977. Degree pass courses were opened in 1990. Since then the college has been functioning as a degree college. The college has classes from KG to H.S.C as per the regulations of DG, Secondary and Higher Education, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Dhaka.

The college is renowned & well reputed for its standard of education and discipline. The college is co-educational. There are about 7975+ students and 276+ teaching staff.
