"witty" 9/11 ribbons

What's with those "witty" 9/11 ribbons resembling the stars and stripes of the national flag? Are they common enough to be listed here or are they just too "inofficial"? --Ashmodai 11:02, 11 July 2005 (UTC)

Definately. Although they're more about Iraq now than 9/11 (though for some the connection is still self-evident). They may be the most superficial form of patriotism I've ever seen, and a tacky smörgåsbord of symbolism, but they're definately ubiquitous, to the consternation of my eyes. What gets me is the cross, that just puts it way over the top for me and is all too sadly reflective of the political situation here. I can understand and sympathize with a tasteful yellow ribbon or MIA ribbon especially, but I wish these offensively gaudy things would disappear soon. Khirad^talk 23:25, 30 January 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure of the source of the Tourette syndrome band as green. The Tourette Syndrome Association has used the color teal for as long as I've been aware. Sandy 22:28, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

Aren't Yellow and Gold really the same color? I always thought of the Support our Troops ribbons as gold, in spite of John Wayne. --kwg06516 19:58, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Where to buy

Any idea where all of these ribbons are available? I have googled many times and can't seem to find anywhere that has all of the ribbons available to purchase. A little help?

Seriously? What term did you google with? Because...

This says you might want to reconsider what you choose to google for when looking for those.

Also, what format did you want it in? Keep in mind that you say "ribbon", but that's the form, not the format; the most common form is the magnets you can put on your car, which aren't necessarily "ribbons" in the strictest sense. Runa27 22:58, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Rewrite of 5 Jan

I think there needs to be a retitling or a merge: US style "awareness ribbons" are just a subset of symbolic ribbons in general, and I don't think awareness ribbons (perhaps with the notable exception of the red AIDS ribbon) merit their own article. IMO info on awareness ribbons should go into an article on ribbons or ornaments in general. This article wouldn't exist anyway if it were not for the emotional attachment people have to various causes which utilize ribbons. 118.90.25.253 (talk) 11:37, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Origins of the Awareness ribbon

The Awareness ribbon is a symbol. It can be seen in the Zodiac symbol for Virgo. Some times it's an "M" with the Ribbon loop at the end, other times the loop at the end looks more like a fish. This is no coincidence. The fish symbol is largely associated with Jesus, but Jesus ushered in the Age of Pieces (2 fish). The single fish is a symbol for the Babylonian fish man called Dagon. Dagon is part of the pantheon of gods in ancient Babylonian Sun Religion. His counterpart in ancient Egyptian Sun Religion is Set or Seth. In ancient Roman Sun Religion he is called Lucifer. The reason for Virgo to be linked to Dagon is that Virgo is the only female sign of the Zodiac, Dagon is the husband to Virgo (Semiramis).
