British Isles or ? edit

I wondered if someone would pick up on this.

"British Isles" is a geographical term including the islands of Great Britain and Ireland and their associated smaller islands, eg, Arranmore, Isles of Scilly, Isle of Wight, Hebrides, Orkneys, etc. Life is not always that simple. Some, particularly in Ireland, feel uncomfortable with their independent or distinct nation being included in the geographical term. An alternative term might be "Great Britain and Ireland".

So, I reverted the change although it really doesn't bother me, I just used the term as it wiki-linked to an appropriate article, which explains the background. I did mean to say that Arranmore "natives" had dispersed to places in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic, but this is not an elegant way of putting it. I know this is an old post but anyone interested should look at British Isles (terminology) for a better understanding of this issue. ww2censor 03:04, 14 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Arranmore Island transmitter edit

The Arranmore Island transmitter article is tagged for questionable notability, so should be merged to here, especially as it might get deleted and can add to this article. ww2censor (talk) 15:09, 23 March 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merge done today. It has been outstanding for 11 months and no one has objected. ww2censor (talk) 04:19, 3 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Tagged some issues edit

Have tagged a number of the issues with the article, probably needs a rewrite throughout, I may do some of the work soon but in the meantime this reference may prove useful.

Statistics edit

At 22 sq.km, Arranmore is smaller than Achill Island, County Mayo and Inis Mór, Aran Islands, County Galway, so cannot be second largest.

The Habitation section quotes a permanent population of 650, but the introduction gives a figure of 514 in 2011. Edbt45 (talk) 16:51, 15 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
