Reverting due to "unverified image" on Arcadia7.jpg edit

I've removed this tag, as the image does meet criteria for fair use. If the contention is that the band is not actually Arcadia, I could almost understand that, but there was no discussion to be found as to why the tag was added. Kevin 04:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

The {{promophoto}} tag on the photo is supposed to be used for press kit/press release images only. "This tag should only be used for images of a person, product, or event that is known to have come from a press kit or similar source, for the purpose of reuse by the media." Also, review Wikipedia:Publicity photos.
This isn't a press kit photo; I know for a fact that this is scanned from a magazine, as I used to have a copy of it! These were a whole series of "light painting" photos done by famed photographer Dean Chamberlain - we definitely should not be violating his copyright (or anyone's, but his work is particularly recognizable).
Fair use is narrow, and should be applied mainly to images we couldn't get any other way (unique moments in war, sports, etc where there may only be one photo; or album covers, where there's only one possible image of the subject). There are many pictures of Arcadia out there, including some press kit photos -- try this page, below all the Duran Duran stuff. Hope that's clear enough! — Catherine\talk 06:56, 9 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reverting from "New Romantic" to "New Wave" edit

I noticed Arcadia's genre had been changed from New Wave to New Romantic, and reverted the change. My rationale for doing so is largely for the following reasons:

1) New Romantic is, by definition, a term used almost exclusively in the U.K., and while Arcadia may have been from the U.K., we all know that we're supposed to write with a neutral worldview.
2) New Romantic is essentially a subgenre of a subgenre. I'm reasonably sure that the broad consensus is that this isn't helpful to the average person. Basically, we're not Pitchfork Media, and imagineering new genres isn't the mark of a good article.
3) I checked AMG and a couple of other sites, and could find no reference to Arcadia being "New Romantic". If we're going to change the genre, it needs to be cited somewhere.

Fair use rationale for Image:Arcadiasingle.jpg edit

Image:Arcadiasingle.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
