This is the first article that I've wholly written, so I assume there will have been mistakes on my part which were, hopefully, not too bad. Elijahmeeks 20:54, 23 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Israel/Palestine edit

I've noticed that the Israel/Palestine thing has been changed again. If it continues to change back and forth without any discussion here (on the talk page, where it'd be nice to discuss this kind of thing) then I'll just change it to the Levant.Elijahmeeks 18:13, 13 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Arabia (satrapy) edit

Guys, in the Achaemenid Empire, there was also a satrapy called Arabia which corresponds to the Roman Arabia Petraea, so I put that at the top of the page for users looking for the Achaemenid satrapy.Azerbaijani 21:13, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Province template edit

I'm resinserting the template, sorry for the mess i have apparently made the previous time - don't know what went wrong.Greyshark09 (talk) 19:26, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I assume this message is for me :). That's okay, I knew you weren't trying to break anything. For some strange reason, I've recently seen a lot of editors doing the exact same thing, and most are completely unaware that anything has gone wrong. Have yourself a great day, and happy editing. :)  -- WikHead (talk) 19:37, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply
Likewise, WP:GF is a musthave, thanks for noticing this - it could have quiet damaged the article.Greyshark09 (talk) 22:57, 18 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

About the greek speaking in Provincia Arabia edit

Hi guys! I have done a work for university and I think there are good sources that provide information of the high presence of hellenisation in Provincia Arabia. According to Bowersock (1983)and Segal (1988) two of the important cities of the Provincia Arabia (Philadelphia and Gerasa) are from hellenic foundation. Both follow an hypodamic plan and have temples of greek deities. This makes possible the use of greek in cities and its surroundings. --Byblios (talk) 20:22, 21 September 2011 (UTC)BybliosReply

Do the sources say that those cities were built on Greek architecture, or they specifically claim that Greek was the predominant language there?Greyshark09 (talk) 20:29, 21 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Capital City: Petra/Bosra? edit

What was the capital city of Arabia Petraea? It seems the province was named after Petra (Petraea), but according to other articles the capital was at Bosra (Nova Trajana Bostra). I'll show some contradictions:

  • Bosra: "Bosra was the first Nabatean city in the 2nd century BC. The Nabatean Kingdom was conquered by Cornelius Palma, a general of Trajan, in 106. Under the Roman Empire, Bosra was renamed Nova Trajana Bostra, and was the residence of the legio III Cyrenaica and capital of the Roman province Arabia Petraea".
  • Petra: "In 106 AD, when Cornelius Palma was governor of Syria, that part of Arabia under the rule of Petra was absorbed into the Roman Empire as part of Arabia Petraea, becoming capital."
  • This article states: "Its capital was Petra." -which is confirmed by the infobox- but later on tells: "There is some disagreement as to what was the capital of the province, with claims that Bostra, near the border of the province of Syria, as the sole capital and other claims that both Petra and Bostra served that purpose. Petra served as the base for Legio III Cyrenaica, and the governor of the province would spend time in both cities, issuing edicts from both. Upon annexation of the province, Bostra gained the appellative “Traiane” when Trajan declared it the capital while Hadrian performed the same ceremonial act for Petra when he became emperor." What is the source of this claim, and if it is true, shouldn't this uncertainty be mentioned in the Petra and Bosra articles and the intro and infobox of this article be changed (like "Capital: Petra/Bosra")?

ps: Note that both Petra and Bosra are claimed as residence of the legio III Cyrenaica, too. Nederlandse Leeuw (talk) 21:52, 23 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
