"Their lack of regard for the Hong Kong law is due to their Marxist belief that change for the good can only be achieved through a virtual revolution (transformation), not simply reform."

Would an article about MLK include the phrase "..his lack of regard for U.S. law"? Wouldn't we use less loaded language like, "..his willingness to engage in civili disobedience and to break laws.." if it were MLK?

A second question about the loaded language concerns the other half of the above statement. The group may consider Maxism to be a key inspiration, fair enough, but the statement "is due to their Marxist belief" suggests that ONE reason and one reason ALONE ("marxism") is the ONLY reason and ONLY motivation for any and all such acts of civil disobedience. I challenge anyone to show that a belief in the *effectiveness* of the *tactic* of civil disobedience and it's *moral justifiability* in certain cases, is not an equally important esplanation for what their civil disobedience "is due to".

Meaning

edit

"The effect of his Marxist belief of revolution on the governance of Hong Kong is as yet unknown." What is the intended meaning of this sentence? Riotboy81 21:34, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Article Name

edit

While the group's name may be just "April Fifth Action" in Chinese, in English it is normally rendered as "April Fifth Action Group". Should the article be renamed accordingly?

In the meantime, I have created a redirect under that name. Rodparkes 09:35, 14 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

POV tag

edit

I've placed a POV tag at the top of this article because some of the statements in the article about this group's conduct and political views sound very biased without references to back them up. Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 02:30, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have changed the tag to "unreferenced" which is more appropriate for unreferenced statements. I don't see any particular political slant to the article. Rodparkes 10:44, 29 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

A political party?

edit

Is April Fifth Action technically a political party? Should this article be added to Template:Hong Kong political parties? Hong Qi Gong (Talk - Contribs) 16:13, 8 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

removing POV tag with no active discussion per Template:POV

edit

I've removed an old neutrality tag from this page that appears to have no active discussion per the instructions at Template:POV:

This template is not meant to be a permanent resident on any article. Remove this template whenever:
  1. There is consensus on the talkpage or the NPOV Noticeboard that the issue has been resolved
  2. It is not clear what the neutrality issue is, and no satisfactory explanation has been given
  3. In the absence of any discussion, or if the discussion has become dormant.

Since there's no evidence of ongoing discussion, I'm removing the tag for now. If discussion is continuing and I've failed to see it, however, please feel free to restore the template and continue to address the issues. Thanks to everybody working on this one! -- Khazar2 (talk) 00:38, 21 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
