Cincinnati?

edit

Just curious, why is Cincinnati not included in Southern Ohio? Hamilton county is further south than several of the counties included and several Clermont County cities are considered Cincinnati suburbs. The fact that Hamilton county is more urban due to Cincinnati proper should not exclude it as Southern or Appalachian as there are several Urban Appalachians in Cincinnati (urban is not a factor in being south or appalachian, are Huntsville or Wheeling, WV not urban areas?). Just curious as to the exclusion.BUBBLES Thanks

- I was wondering the same thing, Cincinnati is considerably further south and even more "Southern" (climate, geography, culture, Appalachian People, etc) than several of the other counties included in the map. It makes no sense whatsoever and the map looks rediculous for excluding Hamilton County. Urbanization should not be an excluding factor either. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.133.42.16 (talk) 07:04, 18 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced

edit

This has so much POV and unsourced material that it is difficult to know how to work with it.--Parkwells (talk) 14:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Conflation of time and economy

edit

Many things changed in the US to make subsistence farming difficult in most places where it was done. It was not only exploitation or mistreatment of those in Appalachia. This article so far gives little sense in this article of the context of what was happening - post-Civil War ecnomic depression, regional agricultural problems, the Great Depression, World Wars, urbanization. Other people have had to move for work - are those in Appalachia so unique?--Parkwells (talk) 14:07, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Generalities about Appalachia

edit

There are many generalities here about Appalachia that might be better in a group article, and ask this one to be specific to Appalachian Ohio. Most of it is not.--Parkwells (talk) 14:09, 19 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Overhaul

edit

1. Is anyone particularly attached to the history and culture section? It's mostly generalizations about Appalachia, rather than Ohio's Appalachian section specifically. I will be happy to do a re-write.

2. Is "Appalachian Ohio" actually a bioregion? If so, it would probably necessitate a separate article (I would suggest "Ohio Appalachians"). As far as I know, the term "Appalachian Ohio" almost always refers to the political/cultural unit.

Inconsistent/Out of Date

edit

The article, particularly the listing of counties, seems outdated. Ashtabula, Trumbull, and Mahoning counties are missing from the county-by-county listing, though they are included in two of the three maps shown here. I may be missing something, but I believe those counties were added in 2008 or 2009. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.187.131.157 (talk) 02:25, 21 May 2012 (UTC)Reply
