The most memorable thing about Anne Kerr, and which the entry doesn't currently mention, was her breathtaking snobbery, which was of a Lady Catherine de Burgh level. The vice-regal couple offered a contrast comparable to a vaudeville comic turn: her preening nose-in-the-air manner, combined with his Falstaffian queeniness and distinctly working-class strine but high pitched voice, slurred by alcohol. For a lethally accurate pen portrait of her ladyship, see Patrick White's autobiography, Flaws in the Glass (Jonathan Cape, 1981, pp.227-233). Engleham (talk) 03:57, 2 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sounds fascinating. Does he name her outright, or is her identification something readers have to read between the lines? What was the nature of White's association with the Kerrs? Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 04:33, 2 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
