Geographic confusion

I think this article is the victim of some geographic confusion

"Annadel" or "Annadell" is a small unincorporated community in Tennessee, but it's in Morgan County, not Scott County. It (mostly a Baptist church and cemetery) is a well-known location on US 27, and GNIS[1] indicates that it is a populated place that has a church and formerly had a school and post office.

In Scott County, GNIS lists an Anadell Church at 362556N, 0842623W, but no populated place.

GNIS lists an "Annadale" as a populated place in Bradley County, Tennessee, but the name does not occur elsewhere in Tennessee.

I've been looking for online information about the Annadale/Annadel in Scott County, but I've not found anything other than indications that a church and cemetery exist by that name. This gazetteer published in 1917 lists several elevations for Annadel in Morgan County, but nothing by any related name in Scott County.

Because it appears that the cemetery in Scott County is being confounded with the populated place in Morgan County, I am placing a "disputed" template on the article. --Orlady (talk) 15:04, 13 April 2011 (UTC)

There is an unincorporated sign along US-27 south of Sunbright, but I don't recall the spelling used. Bms4880 (talk) 15:54, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

That unincorporated place south of Sunbright is the one in Morgan County. If I remember right, the place is labeled Annadel and the large brick church is labeled Annadell Baptist Church. --Orlady (talk) 19:10, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Merger proposal

It has been proposed that Jennings Ellis be merged into this article. I can't see any indication that Jennings Ellis was notable -- his Bronze Stars do not qualify him under Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Notability guide and he seems to be documented only family histories and local histories. On the county's GenWeb site I did find a photo of his headstone and a list of burials for the cemetery where he is buried (Botts cemetery).

A serious flaw with merging and redirecting that article is the lack of solid evidence for the existence of Annadel as a place in Scott County (see above). The county GenWeb does list Annadel as one of many county locations where there are cemeteries, and I've found Annadel School on one old map on that website[2], but I see no sound basis for an article about Annadel as a place. --Orlady (talk) 17:23, 15 April 2011 (UTC)

I found a book called County Scott by Esther Sanderson. It has a chapter on churches, but no mention of Annadel other than that a pastor of the church had attended a regional conference. I checked a book on Morgan County, which had a fairly exhaustive chapter on churches, but no mention of Annadel. Neither Annadel nor any of its variations appeared in either book's index. Bms4880's suggestion led me to think about some new angles. I now think that the content of this article about the cemetery should be merged into State of Scott and the title "Annadel, Tennessee" should be converted into a stub about the place in Morgan County. As for Jennings Ellis, he was from Scott County and is buried there (he's not in the Annadel in Morgan County), so his story doesn't belong in the article about the place in Morgan County. I don't believe Jennings Ellis is notable by Wikipedia criteria, nor that his war record should be memorialized here. That tells me that Jennings Ellis should be deleted (that will require an AfD), but his name could be mentioned in whatever gets merged to State of Scott. Seeing a lack of discussion to the contrary, I've repurposed this article to be a stub about the Morgan County place. I merged the info about the Scott County Annadel into State of Scott and I redirected Jennings Ellis to State of Scott. --Orlady (talk) 03:26, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Not an error, but geographic confusion. The coordinates currently in the article are for Annadel in Morgan County -- the one whose existence is supported by reliables sources. I infer that the coordinates above are for the alleged place in Scott County. --Orlady (talk) 03:07, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
