Rubber bullets, training edit
What is SAPS policy and training with regard to the rubber bullets? The policemen may have mistakenly believed that they were firing a non-lethal projectile type to subdue Tatane. The officers' intent may not have been to kill Tatane, because they could easily have shot Tatane with 9x19mm pistols (conventional ball ammunition) instead of supposedly non-lethal rubber bullets from 12-gauge shotguns. This incident highlights poor officer training--an effective manipulation of Tatane's wrists, elbows, and knees could have easily subdued him for handcuffing and humane processing. Rubber bullets. edit
The SAPS know well that a point blank hit with a rubber bullet is as lethal as a 9mm round. Even I have been taught that way back in 1984 as an SAP Reservist. 156.8.251.250 (talk) 00:26, 23 November 2011 (UTC)
