Talk:Amstrad E-mailer

Source licensing edit

Well, it needs an article, but in part because of its use of GPL software without - as I understand it - releasing all the source code. This is significant because it generates income for the owning company via otherwise unnecessary premium rate phone calls (e.g. after a video call is completed, it calls a number which costs the owner 50p) and there are obviously people who'd like to be able to use the hardware without that 'feature'. POV edit

There is a part at the end and also bits scattered around the article which dispute the neutrality. Lukes123 (talk) 22:52, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Changes edit

More needed about the below cost price sale of the product, and how they regain their costs. More info here: http://www.amstrad.com/emailer_faq/em_uk/index.html#q2

Might also be worth sectioning the article and documenting more on how the device was such a failure.

Get it while it lasts! Lukes123 (talk) 22:56, 18 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Just deleted this text edit

However in order for each phone to function as a normal phone, each unit will have had to receive a configuration change. This would have involved the unit being plugged into a telephone line between specific dates, so that the configuration change could be downloaded. However even after the configuration download - if the unit is set to default factory settings - the configuration change is lost and units remain unusable. A better option therefore would have been a complete software change.[1]

I've just deleted this text because it's not covered in the attached reference, I googled for the info but couldn't find it, and I didn't think the details were very important. The reference (a good reference itself) I've moved back to its original location. Dm20 (talk) 10:31, 31 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Just add some things to it to make it look better edit

I just added some things to this because I am collector of the Amstrad E-mailer,I have 3 of them,I uploaded a photo of 2 of mine that I have next to me,the Plus and E3. this page is starting to look better now.is there a way of changing the title from E-mailer to Amstrad E-mailer because that what I have always called it, like you are not going to call a Amstrad CPC 464 just CPC 464 or Amstrad PCW,PCW..?? How do I add proof..? Most of the stuff about the Amstrad E-mailer I got from Cliff Lawson, talking to him by messages on the Atmeal Commuity website here.. https://community.atmel.com/ ,I do have copies of what he said, alot of the stuff is here.. https://amstrad-e3-hacking.freeforums.net/thread/15/amstrad-em-iler Like PBL was short for Primary Boot Loader

BT was in partnership with Amstrad with the first model of the Amstrad E-mailer EM10001, if you look on that page it shows pictures of the first model and it has Powered by BT printed on it and its box, the pictures are pictures of the models I have. I don't mind if you want to use them on Amstrad E-mailer section,I made the page cause I couldn't post everything here. Spannernick1 (talk) 19:57, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Spannernick1: You need published reliable sources, such as reputable newspapers or books. Forums and messages from one of the involved people don’t count as verifiable reliable sources. — MarkH21talk 20:15, 1 April 2020 (UTC)Reply

How do I add prove I talked to Cliff Lawson about the Amstrad Emaller, I have the copies of the messages he sent me...? I guess I could attach them to the Amstrad Emailer Info Site so you can access them. I do now have the first model now too, Amstrad Emailer E1 too so there is pictures of it on the Amstrad Emalier Info Site.Spannernick1 (talk) 16:25, 15 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
