Dates of Alvino Rey

edit

Why is it in no histories of Alvino Rey do I ever find reference to his musical alter ego, Ira Ironstrings? In the 60's, Rey came up with a distinct sound by blending the banjo with the vibrophone and applied it to several LPs on the Warner Bros label that took a whimsical, tongue in cheek whack at classic dance tunes and dixieland melodies. The LPs were all released listing Ira Ironstrings as the bandleader. They were further helped along by hilarious liner notes about the fictional band. It was a deep, dark secret in the musical world as to just who Ira Ironstrings was, but it eventually came out that Rey was the man who but the unique sound and arrangements together. It was a very unique voicing and an absolutely fun kind of music. The only LP ever to make it to the digital age was Ira Ironstrings Plays Santa Claus. The rest are available only as LPs at garage sales and thru collectors. I wish someone would make them available as mp3 dowloads. It was great "drivin' music!" 12.218.223.144 (talk) 20:10, 14 April 2008 (UTC)Bob Barnes, voguy@kconline.comReply

The Ban

edit

"Although very popular, the ban by the Musicians' Union of 1943 put an end to their recordings." Uhh, did I miss something here? What ban, where, when and why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.68.16.200 (talk) 04:41, 13 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
