I'm rather suspicious of the claims made here. It seems likely that he did good work on ramjets, and hence may legitimately lay claim to having the first patent on airbreathing jet engines. But ramjet engines on their own are fairly useless; it's difficult to get them up to a speed where they work efficiently.- (User) WolfKeeper (Talk) 19:38, 9 June 2008 (UTC)

From the Hungarian source at http://www.mszh.hu/feltalalok/fono.html (and everywhere else) it seems that he invented the ramjet, not the turbojet, so I removed the priority claim to Frank Whittle and Hans von Ohain, who were dealing with turbojets. I couldn't find the cited German patent (though there is a picture from it at the above link). Now the interesting thing is: my source says he modified it for subsonic speeds (he did see the problems!) by applying a compressor, just as in a turbojet, but according to the source he planned it to run from external power (instead of the built-in turbine of turbojets). So he went toward the turbojets, but not totally. The original papers could decide it. (Note that the English translation at http://www.mszh.hu/English/feltalalok/fono.html is shorter than the Hungarian version). I'll try to find some more sources on that. I found his patents at EU patent office: http://v3.espacenet.com/ The ramjet patent is called "Luftstrahlmotor fuer Hochflug". It does mention a variant with a centrifugal compressor (but nothing about a turbine - though it's a brief version only). Anyway we could say he invented the first "jet" engine.
