Famous People edit

Why does some loser keep deleting the famous people? Just because you don't know who it is, doesn't mean that everyone else in Ajax doesn't.

Please see Wikipedia:Verifiability. Ardric47 03:02, 5 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I "believe" that the famous people section is supposed to cover people who are famous outside of Ajax, otherwise they would be "infamous". That's what I'd assume anyway. This type of thing is really open to opinion on who is famous, who is not, and what makes a person famous User:Halesoda|Halesoda]] (talk) 12:42, 11 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

"Infamous" is still "famous", I think you meant "un-famous". I just deleted "M*** J***, Huge bitch", (name scrambled for obvious reasons) maybe someone wants to monitor edits to this page?

I have removed 'Two for the Show' from the famous people section, based on the criteria for 'famous' outlined in the comments at the top of the section (group/person with their own Wikipedia article) Is this a fair evaluation? 24.246.61.204 (talk) 22:50, 18 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

Living Conditions edit

The Living Conditions section is very biased. A better approach would be to discuss the challenges the town faces, similar to the section in the Whitby article. Any concerns? Daveharr 19:18, 21 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree with this, this section of the article must be re-written. There needs to be a reputable source adding to this article, not someone who is prone to their own biases. The statement "police hellicopter [...] yet to prevent any crimes from occuring" particularly sticks out in my eyes, as this person has no proof what so ever that this has not been a useful tool in preventing crimes from occuring. This article definatley needs a look over.

I have done a preliminary rewrite of the Living Conditions section. It's not done, but I think it's much more balanced now. Daveharr 19:51, 16 July 2006 (UTC)Reply

Ajax seal/flag edit

I have implemented the standard City infobox. Ideally, this would include a higher resolution image of the town seal as well as one of the flag. Does anyone know where these are available online? I can't find any such image at the town website. Daveharr 12:41, 4 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Governing body and MPPs in infobox edit

My understanding is that creating additional "virtual" rows in a table by embedding BRs in table entries creates accessibility issues (screen readers typically read tables cell by cell, left to right, HTML row by HTML row). The entries in the infobox for this article that list the governing body, MP, and MPPs use this technique (all being in the one HTML row created by the leader_title and leader_name parameters). Would anyone mind terribly if this information is simply deleted from the infobox and moved into the body of the article? -- Rick Block (talk) 20:15, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

I notice that you've discovered that multiple leader lines are supported by the infobox. Thank you for figuring this out - I certainly had no intentnion of creating accessibility issues where a better alternative existed. Given that it's possible to use multiple leader lines, I'd like to keep the information in the infobox for quick reference. Daveharr 22:58, 11 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
The additional leader params are brand new. The accessibility issues are not well known (getting more well known at this point). Creating "virtual" rows has been a widely used technique, now eliminated from all references to Template:infobox city, Template:infobox country and Template:Infobox U.S. state. I'm trying to drum up support for eliminating use of this technique throughout Wikipedia (see Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Usability), which I think will be a VERY large effort. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:27, 12 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Population is not 90,000 -- more like 50,000

  • I live in Ajax! Yes it in fact is 90,000. Go on the StatsCan site. Ebuz610? 17:41, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

Population edit

Someone greatly increased the population a few days ago. It's not accurate anymore. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 192.75.48.150 (talk) 17:32, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fixed. Thanks for pointing that out. The Interior (Talk) 17:42, 14 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Climate edit

I noticed that Whitby, Pickering and Ajax had climate boxes sourced to http://www.worldweatheronline.com. However, all three have identical information. Environment Canada does not have a weather station in any of these three areas. After checking around I found that the closest weather station to all three places is in Oshawa, Ajax 15.56 km, Whitby 7.95 km and Pickering 19.66 km. I also noticed that the current weather conditions for the three places from the same source, Ajax, Pickering and [http://www.worldweatheronline.com/whitby-weather/ontario/ca.aspx Whitby, all give the current weather for Oshawa. I don't think that worldweatheronline.com is a reliable source. CambridgeBayWeather, Uqaqtuq (talk), Sunasuttuq 17:05, 13 May 2016 (UTC)Reply

Local government section appears adequately cited edit

The "Local Government" section of this article has a tag indicating insufficient citation of sources, however this appears to be resolved and I believe it should be removed.

While the citations are to primary sources (the Ajax city council website, and the Government of Ontario website), these are more than suitable under WP:CS for unchallenged statements of fact such as who makes up the present council or when previous elections were held. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.182.214.65 (talk) 17:26, 12 April 2017 (UTC)Reply
