I worked for an Admiral Distributor shortly after Rockwell International acquired Admiral and am seeking additional references before I post this information:

Rockwell International acquired Admiral Appliance in 1973, eventually selling the appliance operations to Magic Chef.

Rockwell International wanted to win the contract to produce the Space Shuttle. The US Government required companies that bid on the Space Shuttle contract to have experience in mass-producing circuit boards. Rockwell International acquired Admiral, which was apparently financially attractive in 1973, to produce many consumer electronics circuit boards (over 1,000,000 circuit boards) in a short time-frame so Rockwell International could bid to win the Space Shuttle contract.

Admiral, under Rockwell International's control, drastically changed an existing single circuit board color television design, and produced a card rack color television chassis which incorporated many circuit boards. Each circuit board thus produced, counted toward the US Government requirement necessary to win the Space Shuttle contract.

Please post any references about this here. --Sponsion (talk) 14:06, 26 December 2009 (UTC)Reply
