This is not an image of Andrew Jackson Clements, this image was taken at Matthew Brady's Studio in Richmond VA during the Civil War. This image is part of a collection of images taken of important personalities of the time and is known to have been taken by Matthew Brady himself at his studio in Richmond VA. The collection of images where this image comes from in the National Archives was released for public viewing during the 1920's and its origins are well documented. Andrew Jackson Clements being a "Unionist" would not have likely been anywhere near the Confederate Capital of Richmond VA during the Civil War when this Photo was taken. This image matches other family images of Charles Herbert Clements who was from a prominent Virginia family related to President's James Madison, Zachary Taylor and George Washington along with the only Confederate President Jefferson Davis. Charles Herbert Clements was an officer ordered to arrest Stragglers during the Civil War by Orders from Robert E Lee which was a covert action and "why" he is not pictured in uniform. Charles Herbert Clements was stationed in Richmond VA during the civil war where he was photographed at Matthew Brady's Studio in Richmond VA in the same place this photo was taken, he later moved to Tennesse after the Civil War.
