Talk:2023 Super Rugby Aupiki Final

Is there a sufficient reason to create/retain this article?

This article seems to be created to the example of the Super Rugby Finals articles, the most recent example being the 2022 Super Rugby Pacific Final article. Other important rugby union competitions, such as the Premiership, United Rugby Championship and Top 14 don't have a separate article for the finals. After a quick search, the only other competition with a separate article for the finals seems to be Major League Rugby; see the 2022 Major League Rugby Final for an example. I can only assume that the Finals articles for Super Rugby were created at the time that there was a complex competition format with different conferences, to make the Finals stand out more. Continuing the creation of those articles under the much more simplified, current Super Rugby format can probably be justified by the wish to have consistency between the pages of consecutive seasons. That argument doesn't apply to Super Rugby Aupiki, which is a new competition.

The Super Rugby Aupiki competition – at this stage –  is a very short competition. The entire round robin is only three rounds and six matches long. In my opinion, there is no need for a separate Finals article. To the contrary, it's complete overkill and repetitive, if things like the standings table (after the short round robin) are also included. I don't think that argument changes if the competition becomes longer in the future, for example, by playing round robin home and away matches, or by turning it into a Trans-Tasman competition by combining with the Super W. The Super W competition, by the way, also doesn't have a separate article for the Finals.

I don't know the process for deletion of articles. I hope one of the other editors can submit this page for deletion if there aren't sufficient reasons for retaining this article. I'm interested in hearing the opinion of other editors, like the creator @Tamariki as well as @PeeJay, @Rugbyfan22 and others. Ruggalicious (talk) 20:47, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

@Tamariki: After not receiving any reaction to my question, I have proceeded the matter by merging the content from this article back to the main 2023 Super Rugby Aupiki season article. In my opinion it is a redundant content fork. @Rugbyfan22: can I ask you for help? Can you, please, make a redirect from this article to the main article? I don't know how to do that?
