To merge 2023 Chinese presidential election into 14th National People's Congress for reasons of short text and context. Klbrain (talk) 10:24, 16 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

I'm suggesting a merge to the 14th National People's Congress as all other presidential elections in the "Elections in China" navbox link to that year's session of the National People's Congress. Taiwanesetoast888 (talk) 04:20, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply

Oppose Seem to me it would rather be preferable to split these previous pages to make presidential election ones. There's many indirect presidential election around the world, for example only this year so far in Trinidad and Tobago, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Nepal. We don't place the election info on their legislature's pages.--Aréat (talk) 15:35, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Oppose Yeah the pages should be split. There is already precedent with the elections cited above. That aside, the unprecedented nature of a third term warrants it's own page. Khronicle I (talk) 20:34, 10 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
  • Support @Aréat, Khronicle I, and Taiwanesetoast888: In most countries the parliament is a permanent organ, but not so in the Chinese case. The 2023 National People's Congress article, which should really be titled "1st Session of the 14th National People's Congress", was convened to elect the president and other offices. This is an article that will never be "expanded". The meat is in the session and not the election of the President.. One should also note that the Chinese don't use the term "presidential election" - that's a Westernised term to try to understand the Chinese system.. --TheUzbek (talk) 19:46, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
The electoral colleges used in many indirect presidential election like Nepal also only convene to elect the president. We've got a lot of sources talking about this reelection of Xin Jinping. Plus, I don't see how an article has to necessarily be able to "expand" when about a single event like an election. All other countries with indirectly elected head of state have pages about it, I'm opposed to deleting the chinese one when it's no different from many others.--Aréat (talk) 19:53, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
Here's Chinese media calling it an election; Xinhua, China Daily, Global Times. The fact that this page may not be expanded upon is not reason to merge it. A precedent has been set that indirect presidential elections have their own articles, as stated above, there is no reason that this one should be any different. Khronicle I (talk) 20:14, 20 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
@Khronicle I: Yes, as "election" or as "Election as President" or "Election of the Presidency" but never "Presidential election."--TheUzbek (talk) 08:07, 21 March 2023 (UTC)Reply
That is simply a matter of grammar. Hebrew-language sources use a term that's literally translated as "Election to the Presidency" for "presidential election", but no one aruges that 2021 Israeli presidential election should be renamed 2021 Election to the Presidency in Israel to fit hebrew-language sources.
