Dinamo Minsk goalscorer edit

I'm not the person who keeps changing the article, but the video on this page he linked to does show Budnik (Minsk's #9) scoring the goal. I'm not sure what exactly the policy is on going against UEFA's official report, but it does appear to be incorrect in this instance. Kinetic37 (talk) 10:15, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Regardless of "reliable" sourcing, Wikipedia should not post information that is clearly incorrect. Someone in-the-know should write to the league and inquire about this situation. Errors do occur. Ty Cobb was mistakenly credited with 2 extra hits in about 1910, and it was the 1990s or so before someone discovered it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 11:31, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yet it is the official report and what all stats are built on. If UEFA changes their report that would be the best. Qed237 (talk) 11:52, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Maybe if someone tells them about it, then they'll change it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 11:55, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
When trying to contact them in the past them have never responded to me, but perhaps they can change it anyway if someone wants to try. Qed237 (talk) 11:57, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

@Softlavender: Until there is a consensus at the talkpage we usually keep the version it was before the "war" so I would appreciate if self-reverted. Otherwise I will consider you as a part of the edit war as well. Qed237 (talk) 11:57, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Not going to happen, and if you revert again, you will be reported to WP:ANEW. -- Softlavender (talk) 12:05, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Softlavender: And then I will do my best to have you blocked as well as you now are a part of the edit war. Please do not threaten me. Qed237 (talk) 12:07, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
If the "official" information is wrong, we should not post it. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:09, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Are there online, written accounts of the game which correctly identify the scorer? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:08, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Yes, Dinamo Minsk official website Dinamo put that Budnik scored the goal on their official site. For ease of access, I've put the link here myself. Mr rnddude (talk) 12:13, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Is there a European equivalent to ESPN which would have had a game summary or box score after the match? ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:18, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Baseball Bugs, how about ESPN for this [1], would that be a suitable substitute for ESPN? Mr rnddude (talk) 12:40, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • Wikipedia does not post incorrect information. The correct information is reported in the following sources, among others:
  1. http://dinamo-minsk.by/en/sezon/matchi/match/@equal/match=1870
  2. http://www.sportinglife.com/football/live/match-commentary/365570/fk-vojvodina-v-dinamo-minsk

-- Softlavender (talk) 12:23, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
The correct information should be posted, using the sources you've listed, along with a footnote that indicates the "official" source has it differently. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 12:25, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
The correct information is already in the article, along with the following citations:
  1. http://dinamo-minsk.by/en/sezon/matchi/match/@equal/match=1870
  2. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BG6DElfMdxs&feature=youtu.be&t=3m8s

If anyone wishes to add the additional sources that aren't already in the article, they are welcome to do so. If anyone wishes to add a footnote that the UEFA report is different/erroneous, they are welcome to do so. Softlavender (talk) 12:49, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
If the info from UEFA is wrong, as it clearly is in this case, i can't understand why someone would be against it? Add the right scorer and a note at the bottom with a source (1 or 2, not 372). Kante4 (talk) 13:46, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
@Qed237: By watching the video, at least it's obvious that it wasn't Bykov who scored the goal and it is fairly straightforward to assume it was Budnik. With several media sources confirming it, I think we can't ignore the elephant in the room, despite UEFA.com strangely not correcting the mistake in a few hours after the match. The Replicator (talk) 13:57, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply
Usually I'd say go with UEFA, however there's a multitude of sources showing UEFA are clearly wrong. I'd say put the correct goalscorer, adding a source by his name, and probably a note something like "UEFA lists Yevhen Budnik as the goalscorer".
Ah, looks like it's already been done that way, good. Joseph2302 15:20, 31 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

Columns for 1st-3rd rounds edit

Let's make teams of the 2nd round under teams of the 3rd and the teams of 1st round in 2 columns, because these is very long (~100 teams), not comfortable to read with one sight.... need to move down to see all teams.... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramirez2387 (talkcontribs) 22:58, 2 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

There is no good and optimal solution. We have to consider the width of those with smaller screens and also the fact that editor have expressed concern about "hiding" second round below third. One option is to reduce fontsize and have 5 columns. Qed237 (talk) 23:09, 2 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

maybe to do like this article of the season 2015-16 and earlier? (then it was so, with 1st round teams in 2 columns), don't make the words so small, bec. hard to read them Ramirez2387 (talk) 23:22, 3 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

As I said, some editor has expressed concern about "hiding" the second round below the third (or the other way around). And do not steal my signature, use your own. Qed237 (talk) 23:28, 3 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

let's plz save this article like in last seasons (with 2 columns for the 1st round teams, and with the words not so small for reading) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ramirez2387 (talkcontribs) 22:49, 25 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Ramirez. Having one long column for the first qualifying round is pretty ugly, and I would happily accept a wider page over a column twice the length of any other. – PeeJay 08:29, 23 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Page size edit

BarnabyJoe reverted my page split, so I thought I'd explain it in more detail here. Wikipedia has a limit on how much text on any given page can be generated by templates. When all the matches are included on this page, that limit is exceeded, causing templates near the bottom of the page not to be rendered at all (see Wikipedia:Template limits and Help:Template#Template limits for more information). Even with the excess templates being excluded, it was so long that it was taking Wikipedia servers almost 9 seconds to generate this page. To fix these problems, I moved the individual match results to 2016–17 UEFA Europa League qualifying phase and 2016–17 UEFA Europa League play-off round. Do not add them back onto the page without first checking the template limits. Thank you. --Ahecht (TALK
