Talk:2010 NHL entry draft

Explanation for removal of template "Dated prod" edit

Significant information for a Entry Draft is, besides its date, location and eligible prospects, the distribution of draft picks among the teams. Unfortunately, general managers start trading future draft choices some 24 months before the event starts. If the information would be collected on the existing transaction articles only, they would probably be difficult to find because the transactions are sorted by date, not by team or round. Hence it is appropriate to collect this information on the respective draft page in an easy accessible and informative manner, as executed for, e.g., 2009.

The missing information on location and exact time, as well as an official list of prospects of a major scouting source, will of course be included as soon as this information is available. Hockey-holic (talk) 16:25, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Draft order of playoff teams edit

Just a reminder:

30: Champ. 29: Runnerup. 27-28: Conference Final losers. ?-26: Division champs that didn't make it past round 2. 15-: other playoff teams that didn't make it past round 2.

Its after round 2 that things really become clear. If the Habs lose to the Caps, then they get pick 15. ccwaters (talk) 16:20, 23 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

The only pick decided after round 1 will be either Montreal at 15 or Washington at 26, dependent on their game 7 on Wednesday. ccwaters (talk) 13:55, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just a few scenarios for the outcome of DET/SJS. 15-20 will require results from PIT/MTL. One95 (talk) 08:09, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Draft Position Sharks Win Red Wings Win
25th Loser of CHI/VAN San Jose Sharks
24th Atlanta Thrashers (via NJD) Loser of CHI/VAN
23rd Buffalo Sabres Atlanta Thrashers (via NJD)
22nd Phoenix Coyotes Buffalo Sabres
21st Detroit Red Wings Phoenix Coyotes

Yep. I would just leave the "Loser of CHI/VAN" picks blank in the article until that's decided. ccwaters (talk) 12:50, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Agreed. One95 (talk) 18:08, 6 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Final scenarios based on PIT/MTL series. Loser of CHI/VAN is 25th. One95 (talk) 08:21, 9 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Draft Position Penguins Win Canadiens Win
20th Los Angeles Kings Pittsburgh Penguins
19th Nashville Predators Los Angeles Kings
18th Colorado Avalanche Nashville Predators
17th Ottawa Senators Colorado Avalanche
16th Loser of BOS/PHI Ottawa Senators
15th Montreal Canadiens Loser of BOS/PHI

Jurcina conditions edit

Can anyone find a reliable source regarding Milan Jurcina's conditional trade. I see lots of blog post refering to him having to play at least 5-6 games with the Caps post trade, but nothing in papers, etc. FYI: he didn't play a single game for the caps after the trade. ccwaters (talk) 14:32, 29 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Infobox error? edit

In the infobox, there's no link to the 2011 draft, even though the link to the 2009 draft shows up. I've been trying to find the error, but I'm positively baffled. Help? Schmloof (talk) 06:29, 12 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Got it, not sure if I did it correctly but it's working. Although I think with the way the template was coded it made it so in the currentyear it doesn't show next year's link. So probably on January 1st, 2011 it would show up automatically. One95 (talk) 18:47, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Displays fine for me now, thanks! Schmloof (talk) 23:55, 15 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Semi-reliable reference on Pronger conditional edit

Here's a link from a newspapers blog detailing the Pronger pick if the Flyers win the cup.[1]. Yeah, its a blog, but a newspapers blog. ccwaters (talk) 13:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hm, sounds a little confusing to me. It is not clear (at least to me) if the conditional third-rounder from the Pronger trade (currently belonging to Philadelphia) or a third-round selection of the Ducks would go to Montreal. Guess we will have to wait for the official draft order (which featured trade info for conditional picks in the past, if I remember correctly) to ressolve this... --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 15:01, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, and that Chipchura Montreal trade thing is news to me too. ccwaters (talk) 15:03, 26 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Friendly advise edit

Whoever's adding the new names, please cut down on the capital lettering. GoodDay (talk) 18:47, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Complete list of Day 2 trades... edit

...in order to track down traded picks can be found at http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=532973. I have also added them to 2010–11 NHL transactions. --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 22:29, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Teigan Zahn: Drafted twice? edit

I was looking at his profile on hockeydb.com, and checked it here on Wikipedia, and it appears that Teigan Zahn (pick #186, Tampa Bay) was also drafted in 2008 by the Chicago Blackhawks (pick #132). How is this possible? How can someone be drafted twice? Did one of those get nullified? That might be something to footnote if we find an answer. (source:[2]) --David7581 (talk) 00:22, 13 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Drafting teams retain a player's rights for two years. If they can't sign the player in that time, they return to the draft (in most cases). Jarret Stoll and Matthew Lombardi are two other examples of this - they were drafted by Calgary and Edmonton respectively in 2000, went unsigned, returned to the 2002 draft and were selected by Edmonton and Calgary respectively that year. These redlinked draft picks meet WP:NHOCKEY edit

Note: Articles must also meet WP:GNG. Ross, Blain, and Nicholls have deleted articles that can be restored. --75.88.89.194 (talk) 11:21, 12 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Ross doesn't appear to have played more than 200 games in a league that meets #2 or have any preeminent honours in any of those leagues. -DJSasso (talk) 19:08, 14 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
If you combine AHL and DEL totals (including playoffs) he’s at 218 games played. --75.88.89.194 (talk) 12:16, 16 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
You are right. Totally forgot to combine the two. -DJSasso (talk) 15:12, 16 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
