Vaccinations

Vaccination now permitted - BUT, I believe, only with Ministerial consent. Thus this will be a political not necessarily a scientific decision. The source of this belief is buried in the regulations somewhere - I don't know if it's important enough to dig for it? Fenton Robb 21:51, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

General election

The comparison between the delay of the general election and the situation during WW2 isn't really valid: there was no *requirement* for an eleection during 2001: the five-year term would have expired only in 2002. The Blair government simply decided to go to the polls during 2001. Cause of outbreak

A brochure from the norwegian authorities claim that illegally imported meat was a likely culprit for the 2001 outbreak but this article dosn't dwell on the cause. Are there reports to back up illegal meat? EverGreg (talk) 22:52, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Found a source and added the information

How many animals were slaughtered? Article appears to contradict itself.

In the article it says in the initial paragraph that over 10,000,000 animals were slaughtered. Later in the article it says, "With about 80,000 - 93,000 animals per week being slaughtered..."

A quick calculation reveals that at that rate, it would have taken more than two years to slaughter the 10,000,000 mentioned in the first paragraph. I believe the number of animals being slaughtered was greatly reduced before 2001 was finished, suggesting that either the total, or the number slaughtered per week is wrong... or I have missed something (always possible). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.187.233.172 (talk) 16:21, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Donkley woods

The following message was left by Gordon Nixon in this article. It has now been worked into the text:

The last cull carried out in the U.K. was not the Appleby cull.I carried out the last cull in the U.K. on January 1st 2002 at Donkley Woods Farm,Bellingham,Northumberland.The 2,000 sheep had been on appeal for three months but the decision was made to cull them.We asked for the cull to be postponed for twenty four hours but DEFRA said no. Independent?

Reports section- "This independent inquiry was devoted specifically to the government's handling of the crisis. It was chaired by Sir Iain Anderson C.B.E" The report was controversial and the chair had formerly been a special adviser to Tony Blair and previously had worked for the Labour party. EU support during and after the crisis.

What economic assistance, if any did the EU give British farmers? What other support did they provide such as restocking farms, breeding programs, best practice etc?
