War Crimes edit

Hello, I edited the War Crimes section due to incorrect generalization and insufficient sources. Kenaz9 16:15, 10 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is no reference on the information on War Crimes. According to the investigation by the US military in 1949, the events did not take place in the mentioned locatilies during the stated dates!! IT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED!! D.RAY USAF

The War crimes section needs to be edited!! Insufficient sources!!

I have removed the previous template and added a more appropriate one to the War Crimes section to reflect these concerns. Please be more careful in the use of templates so as not to deface the format of the article. NeoFreak 12:34, 4 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Actually the current template probably isn't the right one. {{citecheck}} is for properly cited material that misrepresents its source (such as quotes taken out of context). Please check Wikipedia:Cleanup resources for something that better fits the current situation. Durova 08:11, 5 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

There is a source there just seems to be some dispute over wether or not it is sufficent or accurate for the claims in the War Crimes section. It seems to be the "most" correct template but if you think another to be more appropriate then by all means, suggest it. NeoFreak 09:19, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
In that case it looks as if you do have the right template. I conducted a review of pages that links to this template and found that many of them actually needed some other template (which I replaced where the matter was clear). Wish I had a better source for this article, but it's well outside my expertise. Durova 15:15, 6 September 2006 (UTC)Reply
Can someone explain what the war crime part says to me please? It seems to say that a Kraut went into a house then stupidly got himself shot. Why were there reprisals?? It makes no sense.

Dead link edit

During several automated bot runs the following external link was found to be unavailable. Please check if the link is in fact down and fix or remove it in that case!

Panzer III and IV edit

I have fixed the {{cn}} tag about the Pz III, with refs & cites.. Here is the previous edit: "<!- I'm guessing the Division received Pz IVs as soon as, if not sooner than, Pz IIIs -> arriving in late 1936. {Citation needed |reason=Pz III didn't enter production until May 1937; Division only had 26 at the start of the war, compared with 56 Pz IV, 93 Pz I & 122 Pz II |date=August 2018}"

Jentz & Doyle, Panzer Tracts 3-1, p. 3-63 state that "12 Pz III were on hand with OKH (Army High Command) on 1 October 1937, and it can be assumed that the Ausf. As had been completed and delivered to Army units between May and September 1937...they were definitely on hand on 2 November 1937." The same page states that Pz. Regiment 5 and Pz Regt. 1 received four of the very first Ausf. A 1-Series Z.W. (only 10 made). Panzer Tracts 23, p. 23-32 confirms this figure of 10 Ausf. A produced.

J&D, Panzer Tracts 4 p. 4-14 (this is the 1st ed., I don't have the later Panzer Tracts 4-1) state that the first 2 completely operational Panzer IV Ausf As were accepted by Waffenamt inspectors on 30 November 1937, and the last of 35 ordered were accepted in June 1938. It is possible that the same regiments received similarly early deliveries.

The following book states on p. 11 that Panzer IV Ausf. A's arrived with Panzer Division 1 in Spring 1936 (perhaps the source of the wrong year?), and Pz III Ausf. A's in Winter 1936: but this is evidently in error (despite good pix) and is anyway unreffed:

  • Riebenstahl, Horst (1990). The 1st Panzer Division 1935-1945. West Chester, PA: Schiffer Military History. ISBN 0-88740-283-6.

For those interested, delivery of the first full series production models of the Panzer III (Ausf. E) was delayed for over a year until the autumn of 1939 because of huge problems with the untested Maybach semi-automatic pre-selector SRG 32 8 145 gearbox. Panzer Tracts 3-2-36 states that Panzer Regiment 1 received 28 Ausf. Es and Fs in October and November 1939, and they had nothing but problems with them. It wasn't until the the Ausf. Hs arrived with the existing manual ZF SSG 77 from around September 1940 that the Panzer III became anywhere near reliable.
