Some sources (e.g. Dubin (United States Gubernatorial Elections, 1776-1860: The Official Results by State and County, 2003), and Kallenbach and Kallenbach (American State Governors, 1776-1976, vol. 1, 1977)) state that this election was held on the 2nd Tuesday of October, i.e. October 12. Others (e.g. Glashan (American Governors and Gubernatorial Elections, 1775-1978, 1979)) state it was held on Election Day (United States), i.e. November 2.

Contemporary sources make clear the election was held on November 2:

1876 Pennsylvania Senate Journal
National Republican (Washington, D.C.), 3 November 1875: "Philadelphia, Nov. 2. – The election is passing off quietly…"
The Columbian (Bloomsburg, PA), 12 November 1875: "Every county in Pennsylvania has now officially reported the result of last Tuesday's voting…"
