Time line error edit

There are two tropical storm 2's in the timeline. Thegreatdr (talk) 13:20, 1 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oh, you see, one of the storms was operationally named TS 2, but it was found.... to, err, be an error in the naming, and, uh...... (I fixed it, my bad :P ) ♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 13:27, 1 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Lead edit

  • "The 1865 Atlantic hurricane season included two landfalling hurricanes, with one that caused over 325 deaths." - I'm not sure this is really the best way to start off the article. I personally think a more generalized statement about the season would be better in this instance. A statement about how many storms total formed, and where this stacks up with other Atlantic seasons would be more on par with other season articles in this time range.
    • I did that so it wouldn't be such a generic opener. I hate when season articles start with "was an annual event" or "had X storms". It's just so boring. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:21, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
  • There is a lack of internal links in the lead, especially with the many geographic locations you have referenced. One internal link within the entire section is not enough.

Tropical Storm One edit

  • Reading the source, it would seem you could elaborate a little bit more on this incident. It might also help to include the ship's name as well.
    • I don't think I can, actually. The article contains all of the info on the shipwreck. I did add the name though. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:21, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Tropical Storm Three edit

  • "On August 22 the storm made its closest approach to the state, producing winds of around 45 mph (72 km/h) along the coast. Around that time, the storm attained peak winds of 70 mph (120 km/h)." - These two statements contradict each other, how can the storm be producing 45 mph winds while also attaining winds of 70 mph. I assume the 70mph winds were farther out at sea, so if that is the case it needs to be clarified.

Hurricane 4 edit

  • "A small hurricane, it tracked westward and struck Guadeloupe as a fully-developed hurricane." - I would replace "hurricane" with "storm" or "cyclone" for better flow.
  • "The overall death toll was estimated at 300, including 36 on Marie-Galante." - Can we get an inline citation for this?
  • Lets get an internal link to Louisiana somewhere in here.
    • Now that Louisiana is linked in the lede, I don't think it's necessary. It's a fairly common term that I don't think needs to be linked. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:21, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hurricane 7 edit

  • "The storm brushed the country's coast with high waves for several days, causing $300,000 in damage (1865 USD)." - Can we get an inline citation for this claim?

Given the age of this topic, this is an exceptional article. I would like to see the 8 changes mentioned above made before I can pass this though. Will check back tomorrow. -Marcusmax(speak) 00:51, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply

Yay, thanks. I believe they were all addressed. --♫ Hurricanehink (talk) 02:21, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yep, looks like I can pass this. Good job on yet another GA. -Marcusmax(speak) 12:39, 4 August 2011 (UTC)Reply
