Sidddharkadu Thathreeswarar Temple

Thathreeswarar Temple is a Shiva temple at Sitharkadu pronounced as 'Siddharkadu' neighbourhood in Tiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu state in India. The main deity in this temple is Thathreeswarar and the goddess is Prasanna Kunthalambiga alias Poongullhali.[1] This was the first temple that was identified in Siddharkadu area much ahead of the Sundararaja Perumal temple which is nearby. Jata Varma Sundara Pandian constructed this temple.[2]

This temple is located with the coordinates of (13°05′22″N 80°03′05″E / 13.0895°N 80.0514°E / 13.0895; 80.0514) at Sithukadu (alias Siddharkadu), at about 8 km from Poonamallee.[3]

History

Once here in this place, lived two Siddhas viz., Padukkai Jadamudi Siddha and Prana Deepika Siddha. They performed penance and installed a Shivling under a gooseberry tree here in this place and named the deity as 'Nelliappar'. 'Nelli' in Tamil language is gooseberry. Also, gooseberry is called in Sanskrit as 'Thathri'. So, the deity is known as 'Thathreeswarar'.[4]

Maha Shivaratri, Panchamoorthy procession, Panguni Uthiram, Karthika Deepam, Aadi Karthika, Ganesh Chaturthi, Thai Karthika, Thaipusam and Thiruvathira are the important festivals celebrated in this temple.

Dakshinamurti, Nataraja, Maha Vishnu, Brahma, Sivakami, Durga, Lakshmi, Saraswati, Chandikeswarar, Ganapathy, Subramaniar with His consorts Valli and Devasena, Adikara Nandi, Adi Shankara, Padukkai Jadamudi Siddha and Prana Deepika Siddha are the sub deities in this temple.
