Selected book for portal:Conservatism

For those of you following my exploits at Wikinews you know that my effort to setup a news feed for Portal:Conservatism was unsuccessful. I am not saying that there is any bias at Wikinews so please don't put words in my mouth.
This leaves us with a gaping hole where "In the news..." would've gone. So I had the brilliant (if I do say so myself) idea to add a section called "Selected book" where conservatism-related Wikibooks are displayed. We'll be the only portal with such a feature. What do you think? – Lionel (talk) 09:08, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Milton Balkany DYK

If it appeared on the Main Page then it is acceptable for our portal. Right? That said, we now have a much better selection of DYKs and I agree that it should be replaced. That said, it's one thing for a drive-by user to delete portal content, and leave an ugly red link and a gaping hole where something should go. They aren't embarrassed. They aren't part of a group of editors who are trying to put their best foot forward. It doesn't matter to them that this portal is representative, a reflection of the group to which they belong. They don't take pride in the portal because they have no investment, no sense of solidarity.

I expect more from a member of WikiProject Conservatism. This portal is our public face. This portal is under our stewardship. If you're too busy to properly fix the portal, then at least tell someone you're pulling a drive-by. – Lionel (talk) 23:51, 10 October 2011 (UTC)

Cold War

Why is Cold War listed as a selected article? The fact that conservative politicians were in charge of major countries for part of it doesn't mean it falls under the scope of this portal. Hut 8.5 09:22, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Conflict with communism is a characteristic of conservatism.– Lionel (talk) 10:26, 12 October 2011 (UTC)
Good point! The opposite was the love Progressive/Liberal/Democrats had for USSR/communism. (Many examples) —— Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 04:10, 20 February 2012 (UTC)

Selected articles

We've run out of non-American FA and GA articles to add as Selected articles. I propose expanding, temporarily, the critieria to include B-class Top-importance articles. These will be replaced as more articles are promoted to FA and GA. This complies with the guideline. – Lionel (talk) 00:06, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

OK. Enough "non-American" selected articles have been added to placate the Featured Portal people. Let's reinstate the requirement of FA and GA articles, and let's try to replace the Bs with FAs and GAs as opportunities present, making sure that "American" articles don't prevail. – Lionel (talk) 01:54, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Duplicates

Having been alerted to this page by a few things coming across my watchlist, it should be noted that articles 18 and 28 are the same.--Wehwalt (talk) 15:32, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. – Lionel (talk) 01:49, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Very, very nice

Really nice. Edmund Burke, Alan Keyes, simply well done.Mzk1 (talk) 21:37, 4 December 2011 (UTC)

Thank you Mzk1! If you don't mind, perhaps you could repeat your comment at [1]. It would be appreciated. – Lionel (talk) 09:21, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
This article is fantastic! It is such good reading. I went to the link just given and it says 'discussion over—don't add.' Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:12, 24 February 2012 (UTC)

socialism is conservatism, really?

i suggest we remove State Socialism from this portal without objection. Darkstar1st (talk) 21:56, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

What about 'Fascism' ? I do a search for fascism and see it listed along side 'socialism'. Take them both out. — Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 05:18, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
State Socialism refers to policies persued by Otto von Bismarck's German Conservative Party. They did not call it that, it was a liberal slur, but became the most commonly used name. Not to be confused with state socialism. TFD (talk) 16:08, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

Republican_Party_presidential_primaries,_2012#See_also

I've added this portal-WP-page to the 'See also' section of the 2012 Republican race, FYI — so make it great.

Keep up the Good Work

Currently, this portal is listed with 'Featured Content' on the Wikipedia main page, left panel. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 14:23, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

FYI, I put the Conservative portal link into the Rick Santorum page (at the bottom for his new business venture.) Check it out at Rick_Santorum#Business_ventures. Charles Edwin Shipp (talk) 20:57, 4 July 2013 (UTC)

So, you guys put your Portal up under the Philosophy and thinking category, whilst every other political-ideology is in Social sciences and society. Make it stick out more for featured-status? If anything, Socialism should join you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.36.75.56 (talk) 01:14, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Out of date portal

The news section (as explained above), and the "Selected anniversaries" sections, at least, are out of date. Something should be done about those sections (possibly even remove them) because this problem does not make the portal look good. --1990'sguy (talk) 21:47, 7 June 2016 (UTC)

The portal has been inactive for years. TFD (talk) 21:54, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
I'm not very familiar with portals, but shouldn't something be done about this? --1990'sguy (talk) 22:40, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
You can fix it, if you like. We have several moribund WikiProjects and that they're not active isn't an issue that must be fixed, though. Chris Troutman (talk) 22:48, 7 June 2016 (UTC)
This portal was a stupid idea to begin with. The objective was to support right-wing U.S. politicians and had nothing to do with conservatism. Now that the founders have grown older and lost interest it might be best to delete. TFD (talk) 05:07, 8 June 2016 (UTC)

The flag for this portal seems to have changed from blue to red. Anyone know how this was done and how to change it back? Helper201 (talk) 21:40, 3 August 2023 (UTC)
