The Madurai Junction - SMVT Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express is India's upcoming Vande Bharat Express train, connecting the Temple city of Madurai in Tamil Nadu with the Silicon City of Bangalore in Karnataka. This express train was slated to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi through video conferencing from Chennai Central on June 20, 2024[1][2], but has been postponed due to administrative reasons. The new date for the inauguration of this express train will be informed later.[3]

The trial run for this express has been scheduled to take place on June 17 2024, where it will depart from Madurai in the morning and terminate at SMVT Bengaluru in the afternoon. This trainset will depart from SMVT Bengaluru post noon and will reach Madurai in the night.[4]

editThis train will be operated by Indian Railways, connecting Madurai Junction and SMVT Bengaluru. It will be operated on 6 days a week basis.[5][6][7]
Rakes
editIt will be the upcoming 2nd Generation Mini Vande Bharat 2.0 Express train which will be designed and manufactured by the Integral Coach Factory at Perambur, Chennai under the Make in India Initiative.[8]

editThe Madurai Junction - SMVT Bengaluru Vande Bharat Express will operate 6 days a week, covering a distance of 527 km (327 mi) in a travel time of 08 hrs with average speed of 78 km/h.[9] The Maximum Permissible Speed (MPS) will be confirmed after commercial run.
