Geography
editThe Commune is one of 30 communes that make up the Natura 2000 protected area of Bocages et vergers du sud Pays d'Auge.[3]
Le Merlerault along with another 70 communes is part of a 20,593 hectare, Natura 2000 conservation area, called the Haute vallée de l'Orne et affluents.[4]

edit- Ensemble castral remains of a medieval residence with a circular mound, it was registered as a Monument historique 1989.[5]

edit- Foulques du Merle - (1239 - 1314) was Seigneur of Gacé and Bellou-en-Houlme, and Baron of Le Merlerault, Briouze and Messei.[6]
- François Pouqueville - (1770 – 1838) a French diplomat, writer, explorer, physician and historian, and member of the Institut de France was born here.[7]
- Léon Labbé - (1832 – 1916) a French surgeon and politician was born here.[8]
