Gasper Crasto (born 8 October 1968) is an Indian former professional footballer, writer, singer, composer and emcee. He is most well-known for his time playing for Salgaocar FC from 1991 to 1998. Crasto operates a blog named "gaspersWorld," where he composes pieces on various subjects, including news articles, stories, and his personal viewpoints.

Early and personal life edit

Gasper Crasto was born on 8 October 1968, and originated from Firgulem-Shantinagar, Navelim, Goa. He was baptized at the church of Our Lady of Rosary in Navelim. Crasto received his initial education at Rosary High School in Navelim and S. P. Chowgule College of Arts and Science in Goa. In 1991, he acquired a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Fr. Agnel College in Verna, which was affiliated to the Bombay Board at the time. [citation needed]

Crasto is married to Esparansa from Sanquelim, Goa, and they have a daughter named Angel Rafa Crasto. Crasto's elder brother, Gabriel Crasto, is also a well-known personality who resides in Bahrain.[citation needed]

Having had a flair for football right from his school days, Crasto got the opportunity to play for Salgaocar FC, one of the top clubs in India, with whom he served for 8 years and played in matches throughout India while working at their establishment.[citation needed]

Before playing for Salgaocars, Crasto captained Agassaim Youth Club in the 1989–90 season of the Goa First Division. The team finished 6th in a 10-team league, and Crasto emerged as the top scorer for the club. As a 16-year- old, he first played for Davorlim Sporting in a division of the Goa football league system and continued for the subsequent 2 seasons. Crasto moved to Kuwait in 1999 and currently works as a Business Development Engineer in the Oil and Gas Sector for Action Consultancy Bureau.[citation needed]

Crasto's career in football began with the Navelim Soccerites, with whom he won the All Goa U-14 Championship in 1983. The following year, he was part of the Rosary High School team that won the Subroto Cup and were crowned South Goa Champions. From 1987 onwards, he played for Navelim in all major inter-village tournaments in Goa, representing clubs such as Navelim Sporting, Davorlim Sporting, Enfermos FC, and Mandopa YC.

Between 1987 and 1991, Crasto was part of the Fr. Agnels team that won the West Zone All India Football championship twice, in Ahmednagar and Kolhapur, and were runners-up in cricket in Ahmednagar. He also captained Agassaim FC in the Goa First Division Football League in the 1989-90 season.

From 1990-91 to 1998-99, Crasto played for Salgaocar Sports Club in Goa, where he was the top scorer in the All India Bandodkar Gold Cup in 1992-93. He also represented Salgaocars in the Indian National Football League, playing matches across India, and represented Goa in the Santosh Trophy, where he was a semifinalist at the Palakkad National in Kerala. After moving to Kuwait, he played for Navelim YC under the auspices of the Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF).[1] [2][3]

Compere edit

Crasto is a skilled compere and has demonstrated his wit and humor at many Goan events. He regularly serves as a host and commentator for major football tournaments organized by the Kuwait Indian Football Federation.[citation needed] In fact, his talents as an MC were noticed at the Global Goans Convention held in 2010.[4] and the First Konkani Film Festival held in Kuwait.[5]

Crasto is also a Konkani singer and composer. He is a regular feature at almost every Konkani show or drama organized by the Goan diaspora in Kuwait,[6] which often features famous performers from Goa. Usually, Crasto sings along with his wife, Esparansa.[7] Additionally, he has his own YouTube channel where he shares his music.[citation needed]

Crasto runs a blog called gaspersWorld, where he pens news articles, stories and views on different subjects.[8] His video on Ruzai Saibinn is quite popular on social media and is also a regular contributor to Kuwait's Arab Times newspaper, Indians in Kuwait, and Mangalorean.com.[9] [10] [11] [1] [12]

Crasto launched his book entitled A Rose is Not Just a Rose. Written in the first person, A Rose is Not Just a Rose is a witty and humorous work of fiction that explores the theme of infatuated love.[13] [14]

Migrate Goa is a fiction book containing four stories, entwined in satirical humor and compelling ideology. The title story gives insight into what the impending dawn could bring to one of the most loved and visited places in India and the world over. Crasto has dedicated the book to his brother and sister, Gabriel Crasto and Candida Madeira. [15] [16]

Crasto participated in First Division Cricket for Mahalaxmi Cricket Club-Panaji and DCC-Margao from 1987 to 1991. He won the Open All Goa Amateur Badminton tournament organized by Vidyavihar-Margao in 1987. Additionally, he was the All Navelim swimming champion in 1991.[citation needed]

In 2003, Crasto was awarded Athlete of the Year in Kuwait, by Cultural Recreational Club of Chinchinim (CRC Chinchinim).[17] At the end of the 2017–18 season, the Kuwait Indian Football Federation presented Crasto with a special memento for his contribution to Indian football.[citation needed]
