Thumbnails pointless edit

Maybe there should be a red circle around the Earth here? In the thumbnail currently featured on the Main Page, it's less than a pixel and essentially impossible for most people to see. 71.198.176.22 (talk) 02:33, 22 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Is there some kind of digital watermark? edit

Is there some kind of digital watermark on this image? I ask because if you load the image into an image editor and use some kind of contrast-enhancing filter (In the GIMP, you can use the "Contrast" filter available under the "View->Display Filters..." menu option; turn the slider up to maximum), you can clearly see a very structured dot pattern, which appears to be aligned on a grid of roughly 39.25x39.25 pixels starting at an offset of about 20x5 pixels from the top-left.

And if so, does it matter? Probably not since the image is public domain, but I find it curious as to why that would exist... --TheSophera (talk) 17:07, 16 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
