- Comment: The issues I've raised previously haven't been addressed and there are still large portions of the article which lack inline citations, which means this can't be considered for acceptance yet due to the requirements of WP:BLP. Turnagra (talk) 04:44, 11 November 2023 (UTC)
- Comment: While the footballer may be notable, the article needs a few more sources which help demonstrate this. Articles for living people also have stricter requirements for referencing (see WP:BLP), so the sources probably need to be improved from this aspect before it can be approved. José Mario Claudino (born 10 November 1976), commonly known as Zé Maria, is a Brazilian retired footballer. He played mainly in the position as midfielder, but also as defender.
Football career edit
Zé Maria was born in São Gotardo, but played his youth football by Prudentópolis, a club based in Prudentópolis, Paraná state. He spent one year in the youth department of Clube Malutrom, a club that used to be based in Curitiba. Zé Maria advanced to Prudentópolis' first team in 2001, but did not have any appearances for them, and was loaned out to Corinthians Paulista, in a lower devision. Following his one season loan, he returned to his club of origian Prudentópolis, but achieved just three appearances for them.
Zé Maria joined Basel's first team, on a six month loan from Prudentópolis, for their 2003–04 season under head coach Christian Gross.[1] After playing in two test games, Zé Maria played his domestic league debut for the club, coming in as substitute, in the home game in the St. Jakob-Park on 24 August 2003 as Basel won 6–0 against Servette.[2] The player could not break into the team and as the first half of the season came to an end, it was decided not to prolong the loan contract.[3] Basel ended the season as Swiss champions with 13 points advantage over second placed Young Boys.[4]
During his five/six months with the club, Zé Maria played a total of 12 games for Basel scoring one goal. Four of these games were in the Swiss Super League, one in the Swiss Cup and seven were friendly games. He scored his goal during the test games.[5]
Zé Maria returned to Brazil and rejoined Prudentópolis, but soon moved on to Ponte Preta Sumaré, where he played for nearly three years. He then played for various other clubs in his home country. In 2012 he joined Araxá, but was loaned to Funorte for the 2013 season. He played another season for Araxá and retired from active football thereafter.
