XLO India Limited (formerly known as Ex-Cell-O India Limited, and Amerind Engineering Private Limited) is an Indian vehicle parts and machine tools manufacturer, founded in 1958.[1][2]

History edit

XLO India Limited was founded as Messrs. Amerind Engineering Private Limited.[3] on March 10, 1958, manufacturing automotive steering gear assembles, marine propeller shafts, universal joints, and machine tools with plants in Nashik and Thane, Maharashtra. Two years later, with technical and equity support from Ex-Cell-O Corporation, the company was known as Ex-Cell-O India Private Limited.[1][4]

In 1978, the company become fully Indian-owned, changing its name to XLO India Limited. From 1984-1985, the company spun off its propeller shaft and universal joint division into XLO-GWB Cardan Shafts Limited, later known as Hindustan Hardy, Limited.[5][1]

Notable customers of XLO include the Indian Army and Vehicle Factory Jabalpur (chiefly universal joints for Shaktiman trucks), Mahindra & Mahindra, and Hindustan Motors.[6]

The first managing director and chairman of the company was Chandra Bhushan Saran.[7] Since 1980, the current chairman and managing director of the company is Sanjaya Chandrabhushan Saran[7][8], the son of the original founder. He is also the managing director of Hindustan Hardy Spicer, Ltd.[9]
