Hunor Gabor Torzsa (born 9 May 1994), known professionally as Nick Havsen, is a Romanian DJ and record producer.[1] Notable releases include "Armata", "Sheriff", "Lord Of The Rave", "The Light" and "Bigroom Is Life".[2]
Biography
editHunor Gabor Torzsa was born on May 9th, 1994, near Târgu Secuiesc in Covasna, Romania, and is of Hungarian background.[3]
As a young child, he played melodies he heard around his familiar environment on a toy keyboard.
In 2006, the young Torzsa started listening to hip-hop music, and installed Reason 3.0 in order to make beats.
In 2012, being interested in DJing, Torzsa started watching DJ sets from the likes of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. He thought that he needed to produce his own songs in order to make a name for himself, trying Ableton and crucially FL Studio, which he would ultimately stick to.[4]
Nick Havsen started his career at the age of 20 in 2014, releasing his debut track "Armata," a big room house record, on the Hungarian imprint Audioland Music. "Armata" proved to be Havsen's first breakthrough, featured in multiple compilations and remixed by Audiokiller, Senseekers, and Marsax.
Havsen's ascent continued with solo releases and collaborations on Casual Music and Cub, most notably "Backstab" with Joel Hong. In March 2016, he released his first track on Armin van Buuren's sublabel Armada Deep, a remix of Tim Gartz's "Uptown Girl."[3]
Nick Havsen had his major breakthrough in mid-2020, after releasing "Deva" with Grimix on Smash The House earlier in the year[5], releasing several big room house tracks, including "Bermuda" in collaboration with TBR on Chris W. Lao's Intensity Recordings, "Baby" with Atom Panda[6], and "Lord Of The Rave" with Wolfpack and Futuristic Polar Bears on Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's label Smash The House. The latter song premiered at Tomorrowland over a year earlier. Havsen also released "Eriu" on Hardwell's label Revealed Recordings.[7]
Multiple releases on TurnItUp Muzik followed, featuring collaborations with Codex (SE), Aki-Hiro, Marc Blou, David White, and Marco Deleoni, before he established his own record label, Lord Of The Rave, in May 2021.
2021 also marked one of Nick Havsen's first major live performances since his pre-2020 Asian and European gigs[8], playing a DJ set for 1001Tracklists on the roof of the Balvanyos Resort in his native Romania.[9]
At the start of 2022, Havsen released multiple tracks on Revealed Recordings, in collaboration with Gaspar and Ezra Hazard.[10] In December 2022, Havsen became the first Romanian artist to release on W&W's label Rave Culture, with "Bigroom Is Life," which he called 'his greatest release so far.'[11] In 2023, he released two more tracks on the same label, "Tranceylvania" and "Aftermath." In early 2024, Havsen returned to the Dutch label with "Say Goodbye," in partnership with Taiwanese producer DJ Junior.
From 2021 to 2024, most of Havsen's significant releases were on the Dutch label TurnItUp Muzik[12], where he released "Harmonia," "Dreams," "The Light," "Raverface," and "Ready For The Action," as well as multiple hardstyle remixes on Reaching Altitude.
