Draft:K2: The Dream, The Nightmare

K2: The Dream, The Nightmare (original title: K2: Il sogno, l'incubo) is a documentary film by sports journalist Marco Mazzocchi and produced by RAI. It was broadcast on Rai 2 in two parts on 9 and 16 October 2007.

The film is an account of the difficult climb of Pakistan's K2, the second highest mountain in the world, when a group of Italian mountaineers attempted to scale the "Italian mountain". However, after the expedition's last mountaineer reached the summit, he became lost in a snowstorm on the way down and never reached base camp.[1]

Plot

The documentary recounts the July 2007 Italian expedition "K2 Mountain Freedom" by the mountaineers Daniele Nardi (expedition leader), Mario Vielmo , Stefano Zavka and Michele Fait.[citation needed]

The expedition was followed and documented by Marco Mazzocchi and an RAI crew , who started filming as the expedition members arrived in Islamabad , describing the meeting with Nardi, the journey through Pakistan to reach Askole, the last reachable location by vehicles, and then the long journey on foot and the ascent across the Baltoro Glacier to the base camp at an altitude of 5,100 m above sea level .

In the following days, the four mountaineers began the ascent to the upper camps of the southern face of K2, climbing the Abruzzi Spur,[2] while Mazzocchi remained at the base camp taking care of radio contacts with the mountaineers. For this reason, in its final part, the documentary often uses images filmed by the climbers themselves.[citation needed]
