Early life edit

Singer was born in Jersey, Channel Islands, United Kingdom. She graduated with a first-class degree in Political Science from the University of Leeds and subsequently studied Film Production at the London Film Academy.

Singer is the great-great-granddaughter of Isaac Singer, the inventor of the Singer Sewing Machine, and Isabella Eugénie Boyer, who served as the model for the Statue of Liberty.

Career edit

Singer began her career working at Pinewood Studios, where she contributed to film and television productions for the BBC, Channel 4, Netflix, Disney, and Paramount Pictures. Her experience at Pinewood Studios provided a strong foundation for her future endeavours in independent film.

In 2017, Singer established her own production company, Singer Studios. Since then, she has produced and directed a number of short films and feature films. Singer's work as an executive producer includes the film Rare Beasts (2020), which was written, directed, and starred in by Billie Piper. The film also featured actors David Thewlis and Lily James.

Rare Beasts premiered in competition at the Venice Film Festival (2019).[1] and was screened at the BFI London Film Festival (2019)[1] and SXSW (2020).[2]

She also served as an executive producer on The Last Rifleman (2023)[3] starring Pierce Brosnan and directed by Terry Loane, distributed by Universal Pictures.

More recently, Singer began developing work for virtual reality platforms. In 2022, she co-wrote, executive produced and directed "Mrs Benz: Voyage of Discovery," a virtual reality narrative game that explores the untold story of Bertha Benz in her late 19th-century workshop in Germany. The game revolves around Benz's pivotal role in launching the world's first motorcar. "Mrs Benz" premiered at the Venice Film Festival,[4] where it was nominated for the Three Lions Award.[5]

Singer also spearheaded "The Pirate Queen" franchise, a multimedia project that encompasses film, television, podcast, and gaming. The franchise delves into the captivating true story of 19th-century pirate Cheng Shih.

The game is notable for its commitment to historical sensitivity. Singer notes, 'It's a really great story, and it's really emotive. And the world that we're creating and the accuracy of the world - everything that we've created is as historically accurate as we could possibly get it. So, for example, there are mats on the floor, and we researched into whether the reeds in the mats were woven left to right or right to left just to make sure that it was accurate.'[6]

Singer produced and directed the first instalment of "The Pirate Queen" game, titled "The Pirate Queen: Night of Succession," which won the Discovery Award at Raindance Film Festival (2022).[7]

Collaborating with American actress Lucy Liu, Singer then directed and executive produced "The Pirate Queen: A Forgotten Legend," where Liu both voiced Cheng Shih and also served as an executive producer. The game made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in 2023 where it was awarded the Immersive Storyscapes Award.[8]

In addition to her work in film and gaming, Eloise Singer hosts and executive produces an ongoing podcast titled "Women Behind the Scenes," published by Singer Studios.

The podcast features interviews with women working in the film and television industry, offering insights into their experiences and contributions. Notable guests on the podcast have included Odessa Rae, the Oscar-winning producer of "Navalny," Lesley Patterson, the executive producer and co-writer of the Oscar-winning film "All Quiet on the Western Front," and Charlotte Munch Bengtsen, the editor of the Oscar-nominated film "All That Breathes."
