On March 3, 2008, a mass shooting occurred at a Wendy's location in West Palm Beach, Florida. 60-year-old Alburn Edward Blake entered the restaurant in the afternoon; after spending several minutes in the location's bathroom, he exited and opened fire on patrons. Blake committed suicide after shooting five people, one fatally.[1][2]

Details edit

The perpetrator, Alburn Edward Blake, 60, entered the Wendy's location around the afternoon and went straight to the washroom, according to the restaurant's CCTV system. He emerged minutes later, and then fatally shot Lt. Rafael Vazquez, 42, at the counter, who had gone back into the restaurant to exchange a kid's meal toy his child had received. Blake then fired 20 additional shots, injuring four others before committing suicide. A fifth person was injured while running out of the outlet.[3]

Perpetrator edit

The shooter was identified by police as 60-year-old Alburn Edward Blake, a Jamaican native who worked as a groundskeeper at the private The Weiss School in Palm Beach Gardens.[1] Blake had not appeared at the school for several weeks prior to the shooting. Authorities speculate he may have developed an illness prior to the massacre.[4]
