Life and careerEdit
At 19, he formed Sweetpea Entertainment to fulfill his vision to acquire the rights and bring the world famous "Dungeons & Dragons" property to the big screen. At 26, Dungeons and Dragons film became his first producing and directing project, grossing over $33M globally. A new theatrical version is currently in the works at Paramount Pictures for 2021.
Thereafter, he formed After Dark Films to produce horror, thriller and action titles. He launched it with An American Haunting (wrote, produced, directed), starring Sissy Spacek and Donald Sutherland, a story based on Tennessee's Bell Witch legend. Personally handling the entire release campaign with no prior experience, it opened #2 in US (staying in the top ten films for 6 weeks). This success resulted in a long term distribution and co-production arrangement with Lionsgate Films. Today, After Dark owns its own film library of over 80 films.
In 2014, Solomon partnered with Mark Canton, one of Hollywood's most prolific studio heads (Sony) and Producers (300 (film)) on a slate of Dramatic Feature films, including the critically acclaimed Cake (2014 film) starring Jennifer Aniston (Best Actress Nominations by SAG, BFCA and Golden Globes). Other films were Mr. Church (Eddie Murphy), The Comedian (Robert DeNiro and Leslie Mann), The Yellow Birds (Tye Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich, Jack Huston, Jennifer Aniston, Toni Collette) and Burn Your Maps (Vera Farmiga and Jacob Tremblay) which won multiple film festivals.
In 2018, he acquired the rights to and produced the first film based on the worldwide phenomenon and bestselling novel series After. The film of the same name was released in April 2019 and became an international hit, opening #1 in 22 countries and grossing $80M worldwide in theaters. The sequel, After We Collided, was released in 2020.
In 2018, he also acquired the rights to the world famous underground comic universe of the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers created by Gilbert Shelton in 1968. Distributed through underground presses because of its racy nature, the Freak Brothers and their unnamed Cat became the hilarious voice of Cannabis smokers around the world. This will be his first foray into the world of Adult-Animation with a super talented team of seasoned writers and actors to bring them to life.
