Guidelines I propose:
Included here should be superlative actors and filmmakers. During the studio system producers and studio heads were hugely influential, so people like Goldwyn and Zanuck are included. But post-studio producers and studio heads should not be. Pre-1950s actors included should be AFI's list of best old Hollywood actors, for later generations we should only include people cited as "bests" like Robert De Niro and Streep.
Note that the latter two are the only actors post-1950 included as top importance— De Niro being ranked as a "best" for New Hollywood films and Streep as a "best" for living film actors. They are exceptions. Due New Hollywood being less actor-focused and more director focused, and modern Hollywood being too recent to judge fairly, few actors post-1950 should be included. Filmmakers should either be pioneering or hugely influential. Most pioneers of course were in the 1910s-1920s, with the rise of the narrative film, and they should be included. I can't believe Sjolstrom wasn't included! Few modern film-makers should be included to judge fairly.
