- In my opinion, no, the extra 100+ templates associated with the category are not needed. This is a great example of template proliferation. Everything that one of these templates could say can be stated in a contingent manner in the text of the article, with an indication and citation as to the date of the information relied upon. The original {{current}} was created merely for an event with many many editors attempting to edit at the same time, as a warning to editors, not particularly for the benefit of readers, and should be used rarely, for those occasions when an article has say 500 and more edits a day, with something like 50-plus editors involved, describing some present crisis that is about to be over in the next day or two. I find the original {{current}} on all manner of insignficant article topics where an item in the newspaper has caused some editor to believe this deserves a "current" tag-- and not a contribution to the substance of the article in question. -- Yellowdesk (talk) 19:25, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
