edit@BrownHairedGirl: this is the only year category before 1900 in its series; would you agree to upmerging it? – Fayenatic London 07:38, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: Sorry for the slow reply.
- Quick answer: no, I'd oppose an upmerger.
- I think it may be appropriate to upmerge a long tail, but this seems to be to be a short tail, and also seems likely to be expanded. The 1890s was an era of mass entertainment in theatres, music halls etc, so I would expect the category to grow.
- In my view, arbitrarily-trimmed category trees are unintuitive and therefore unstable, so they create a maintenance headache; and they also add avoidable complexity to category header templates, which is a further maintenance headache.
- For chronology categories such as this, trimming also seems pointless, because {{Navseasoncats with decades below year}} gives such good navigation that a small category isn't a silo to get lost in. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 11:03, 27 June 2021 (UTC)
