POLICY DEBATE: Use of source code and other examples in articles edit

I have opened a debate on the use of source code and other examples in Wikipedia articles. It seems that many pieces of example source code etc. currently in Wikipedia violate Wikipedia policy, so we need to either clarify or change the situation. Depending on the result of the discussion, this may result in a number of source code examples being summarily removed from computing articles!

Hiddencategory edit

I propose that this category and all the subcategories set to hidden using {{hiddencat}} Bennylin (talk) 01:54, 29 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Why would this be helpful? As of right now, some subcategories of Category:Articles with example code have hiddencat, such as Category:Articles with example BASIC code, Category:Articles with example C code, and Category:Articles with example Perl code, and others not, such as Category:Articles with example C++ code, Category:Articles with example PHP code, and Category:Articles with example SQL code. Is there a reason to apply hiddencat to all, not to apply it to any, or to apply it to only some? --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 02:30, 13 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
My fault, I started tagging a few of them as "hidden" and then realized there where quite a lot and stopped. I'm now not sure wheter 1) they should or shouldn't be hidden, 2) whether these categories should exist in the first place, and 3) what there purpose is if they should. —Ruud 09:58, 13 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
If you're unsure whether these categories should exist, try discussing their existence with other Wikipedians. --Damian Yerrick (talk | stalk) 00:49, 14 October 2011 (UTC)Reply
