Primer series
editThe channel primarily focuses on the Primer series, a bi-weekly episodic series about firearms pertaining to the First World War (though in recent years they've expanded to the general early 20th century era). Othais, the main presenter, covers the history and development of each firearm in detail, often referring to prior branching videos for additional reference. He also covers the mechanical function and inner workings of each firearm (with help from animator Bruno, who also runs his own channel called BAanimations), before then discussing the military usage of the firearm.
Each video is broken up with smaller shooting segments, where Mae loads and demos the firearm. Near the end of the segment, Othais brings Mae in to discuss the feel and shooting of the firearm, comparing and discussing fit and feel, mechanics, and overall function of the weapon, before rounding out by asking if the weapon would be acceptable for service in WW1.
While both Othais and Mae are avid collectors of firearms themselves, many of the rarer pieces are loaned from viewers or friends. Weapons covered by the channel include famous weapons like the Lee-Enfield, Gewehr-98, M1911 and Maxim gun, as well as rarer pieces, such as various Mauser or Mannlicher-derived models, or the Madsen light machine gun.
Other content
editThe pair have also made appearances on other channels, most notably being close friends with Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons. One major collaboration between the two is Project Lightning, a testing and ranking of several light machine guns of the war.[2]
While mostly firearms-related, there have also been occasional interviews or podcast appearances, such as an interview with Forbes discussing YouTube monetization issues.[3]
There is also a website dedicated to the channel. This website also contains merchandising options, a primer gallery linking to all currently-discussed firearms, and a chronology of revolver lineage and technologic advancements (which is also another series in itself). The channel is primarily crowd-funded, via sites like Patreon.[4]
