Collaboration with the Wine Project on Mexican wine articles?

Hello! For 2011 the Wine Project is doing a new Wine Improvement Drive where each month we focus on an area of articles that relate to a particular theme. In January, we are are ringing in the New Year with New World wine, with a focus on the wines of the Northern Hemisphere-Canadian wine, American wine and Mexican wine. I am going by related projects to see if there is any interest in collaboration between this project and the wine project on the subject of Mexican wine? Some suggestion on potential article creations include History of Mexican wine, Baja California wine, Valley of Guadalupe wine (or other areas mentioned in Mexican_wine#Wine_producing_areas_and_vintages_in_Mexico), a bio article on Lorenzo Garcia who founded Mexico's first winery. Another idea would be creating articles on notable wineries such as Casa Madero, Casa de Piedra (currently a redirect to an unrelated article), Monte Xanic, etc.And, of course, of HUGE help would be the upload of free use photos of Mexican wineries, wines and wine regions to Commons that could be used to better illustrate Mexican wine articles. Direction General of Civil Aeronautics

Where can I find more info about the Direction General of Civil Aeronautics, which has a Spanish article at es:Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (México)?

I know it is a sub-agency of the SCT. But I'm not sure where its current website is... The http://dgac.sct.gob.mx/ redirects somewhere about aviation.

Adding "Popular pages" to U.S.-related projects

A very interesting tool of the Wikimedia Toolserver is called WikiProject Popular pages lists. These lists are similar to project-related article lists like U. S. article lists used for generating assessment statistics. The Popular pages lists include the rank, total views, average daily views, quality and importance ratings for the listed articles. Here is the full list of projects using popular pages lists. An FAQ also is available at User:Mr.Z-man/Popular pages FAQ.

I recently added links to lists of popular pages as shown below to the U.S. Portal - WikiProjects box and the nominations sections for each of the selected articles boxes.

City names example

According to the Strategy consensus on the matter of City names for this project:

When disambiguation is not required, city articles go at their natural location: e.g, Hermosillo, Coatzacoalcos.

yet the article on Coatzacoalcos was moved to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz on 23 October 2007 by Supaman89. Was the move in violation of the Strategy consensus on City names for this project? I have found that several city articles were moved to City, State style names back in 2007 and 2008 so that they would more closely follow an existing practice for USA city articles used then (that has since been overturned). Since that time many articles were moved to unambiguous City names. Examples include: Los Angeles, California was moved to Los Angeles; Hermosillo, Sonora was moved to Hermosillo and Cancún, Quintana Roo was moved back to Cancún. These latter examples are now thought to be in compliance with an en wikipedia wide naming convention guideline, specifically WP:NC:CITY#Mexico. Hence, instead of bothering this project's talk page with further discussion I will request a page move for Coatzacoalcos. 69.126.127.193 (talk) 23:54, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Error in Mexican economy

Under the section titled "Economy", this is stated: "With a stable growth rate of 7.6%.,[14][15] the Mexican economy is expected to nearly triple by 2020." Neither citation [14] nor [15] actually says that. In fact, what they say is that in the second quarter of 2010, the growth rate was 7.6%, and that Mexico's Finance Minister is aiming for a growth rate of 4.1% for the year. Either the citation needs to be changed, or the claim needs to be toned down.

In fact, the claim that the Mexican economy is expected to triple by 2020 is egregious as well, and the article cited (citation 144), doesn't support that in the least, as it is measuring the countries via their PPP. The article on this former Governor of Tabasco appears to have been poorly translated from the equivalent article on es.Wikipedia. It really needs editing by someone with a good knowledge of both Spanish and English. Bold textI am guessing the people speaking of ""poor Translation" and "messy jobs" are Americans most likely white-no offence- I am a white american woman- However, I lived in Mexico- and have a very good number of Mexican born relatives (some half white, some 100% Mexican, Some with obvious spanish decent)-all are called "Mexicans" and therefor speak "spanish" according to everyone in the world. However, if you travel to Mexico, and speak to the people in various States from cities,suburbs, farmland, not all of Mexico Speaks what United States Labels as "spanish" of course Spanish is the language in Mexico, but just like when i speak to some americans from the South, from northeast, and esspecially when I was in Florida- yes-I guess they were speaking "english", they are Americans- but I had little clue as to what in the world they were saying. In Mexico- there are many different Native North American Tribes (Just Like U.S.), and they speak a different language, not spanish- and sometimes the Native language to thier area gets mixed in with spanish, or a place might be called a name from the native language, and people don't understand the meaning of the name. I took spanish classes here in the states- that taught very incorrectly- once i spoke spanish, and understood Mexico more, met people from different areas of the Country. I actually learned Spanish, but still- different areas use the language a little differently, so really- if the information is comming from anywhere in Mexico (the place you are reading about) Americans will say "this is very sloppy" "This is poorly translated"..ETC. I would suggest that you try translating the words you dont understand or what not with a translating webpage (alot of those are terrible however). If someone is intrested enough in reading about a place/person/thing in Mexico- you should first understand that not every Mexican speaks the Spanish you know of, some do not speak spanish well-as it is not that that specific persons ancestry. "One Size Fits All" does not apply.

I also saw another comment in this discussion page- a person trying to correct the "census" population number- and probably the more acurate higher #.. (i am not going to bother going to that specific conversation.. Americans mostly do not understand anything about Mexico -our neighbor)that person was requesting that a more reliable source is entered and the 2 different #'s showing census deleted/corrected and a very educated estimate-which is going to be more correct most often than not- people keep applying how this country operates to a totally different country... The INEGI Code and map reference for the municipalities of Chihuahua have some mistakes. As an example, Hidalgo del Parral should have code 32 and be located at the southeast end of the map.

Unreferenced BLPs - the final surge

Since early in 2010, many editors have assisted in the referencing or removal of over 90% of the Unreferenced Biographies of Living People, bringing the total down from over 50,000 to the current 4,862 (as of 16:23, 1 June 2011 (UTC)). Thank you for all of the work you've done to date, but we are now asking for your help in finishing this task. There are two main projects which are devoted to removing UBLPs from en.Wikipedia:

• WP:URBLP has set up a large number of topic based lists, which are updated each day by a WP:BOT. Your project's list is located at Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexico/Unreferenced BLPs and currently contains 58 articles.
• WP:URBLPR is focusing on clearing out the backlog based on the month in which each article was tagged as being unreferenced. The current task is Category:Unreferenced BLPs from September 2009, and it is the last month remaining from 2009.
• You can also reference a random article or make your own lists using one of the catscan tools, such as this search for Mexican actors.

All you have to do is pick your articles and then add suitable references from reliable sources and remove the {{BLP unsourced}} template. Needed assistance in school article

Hi. I'm Raymie, the user responsible for about 200 Arizona school articles created in the last year. (Examples: Canyon View Preparatory High School, Desert Edge High School, Phoenix Indian School, Santa Cruz Valley Union High School) One of my top goals is that every Arizona Interscholastic Association member school have a Wikipedia article (every school listed in this document). This includes one California school and now one south of the border.

It's a new associate member listed as "Nogales, Sonora Gante" but whose real name is Colegio Fray Pedro de Gante. It appears to be the equivalent of a K-12 institution, but I'm not sure if grade divisions are different at all in México. It also seems to be Roman Catholic. However, I am in need of assistance if practices are different for Mexican school articles. I know Spanish well, but I'm not a native speaker, so I may still have questions.

CLABE

Would it be safe to state that a person sending money from Europe to Mexico should enter the beneficiary's CLABE in the box marked IBAN? I have found it to be common practice and people say it works. European standard wires do not have any place for a CLABE or any mention of it even though the official mexican position is that a wire without a CLABE may not be executed.

It could not cause confusion since Mexican banks do not use IBANs.

Good faith user who writes only in Spanish

Hello, I was directed to this page from the Help Desk. I came across a user, User:Rodrigozjaaa, who has contributed to a few Mexican football club articles. Unfortunately all his contributions are in Spanish. I don't think the user is trying to be disruptive but his efforts have the same effect. I've welcomed the user with an English-Spanish template but I don't speak Spanish well enough to more than that. Could someone please explain to him what he is doing wrong or otherwise give advice? Burro

I added the short article on the Burro to this project a few days ago on the basis that there an estimated three million of them in the country, with the intention of expanding the coverage of the Mexican population within the article, and with the hope that someone with a better knowledge than mine of the country, its donkeys and its language might give a hand with that. Another editor has removed the project tag, for reasons that are not entirely clear to me. So I'd like to ask here: whether the article belongs in this project; and whether I should consider moving it to some other name, such as, say, Mexican Creole donkey or Mexican Criollo donkey, which seem to describe it equally well although not the name under which it is reported to the FAO. Celaya Ball of Water

I have a question about the Bola de Agua, Celaya, Celaya Guanajuato Mexico, listed in Wikipedia. The description states that there was another just like it in Stuttgart Germany, but disappeared during WW2 .I cannot find any reference to it. Wasserturm Stuttgart-Degerloch, Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany was built in 1912 (ref Wikipedia), and was damaged by Germany, to make it less visible to Allied Bomber aircraft during WW2 (ref Wikipedia) This watertower is a Bricked Watertower, and bears no resemblance to the Bola de Agua-Celaya, Celaya Guanajuato Mexico, as stated in the Celaya description (ref Wikipedia). This does not mean that Stuttgart never had a similar tower, but I have been unable to find it. There is a Watertower in Germany which does bear an almost identical construction to the Bola de Agua in Celea Mexico. It is the Essen Bredeney Wasserturm in Bredeney Essen, Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany This watertower is a historical "building" and cannot be extensively modified. It has been restored as living quarters. Hi, folks. A while back I wrote an article on Japanese composer Minako Hamano which was deleted from the English Wikipedia as "unexpandable." Lest the research go to waste, I'd like to add the information to her entry in other language Wikipedias, but my language skills suck. I've made up a Spanish machine translation in my sandbox. I gather that Minako Hamano's problem is that she does work-for-hire. Her work is considered notable and she has numerous mentions within other Wikipedia articles. Accents in Mexican sports bios

Per it may be worth taking a look at Category:Mexican male tennis players since one of the bios (Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela) was recently moved to the accented spelling and then reverted. Also per Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biographies#First_mention I'm not sure that "Miguel Angel Reyes-Varela (Spanish: Miguel Ángel Reyes-Varela)" makes much sense in regard to a Mexican national. I have started an RfC regarding the question of whether Spanish should be mentioned as an official language in the infobox recognizing its de facto official status in spite of the fact that it is not legally given that status in Mexican law which simply mentions it as a National language along with the indigenous languages, and does not specify an official status. Carlos Fuentes

Carlos Fuentes has a chance to reach the main page via WP:ITNC, but his article's an unsourced mess at the moment--a shame for a guy so often described as Mexico's premier novelist. Would anyone be willing to help me and others with its expansion? Due to my ignorance of Spanish, the article is currently overly reliant on U.S. newspapers and critics. Help with an article on Jorge Prieto Laurens at AFC

Hi there!

Someone has submitted on Mexican politician and journalist Jorge Prieto Laurens at Articles for Creation. The subject is clearly notable, but the author of the article has not provided any references. I'd normally try to provide these myself but, as I only have very basic Spanish and it seems that almost all of the sources on Laurens are in Spanish, I can't be much help here! So I was wondering if anyone at this project might have the time/will to help out with referencing this article?

Yes they are "National languages" under the 2003 Law of Linguistic Rights. In practice however it is not generally possible to obtain government services in indigenous languages, and the indigenous language education system is very weak.·ʍaunus·snunɐw· 11:40, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

5. How to treat Quechua (Runa Simi) and other articles?
6. and so on?

I strongly agree with you. In my time editing Wikipedia, I have always looked for a MOS for places, names and even things in Spanish. The creation of one will certainly bring up some order in every Spanish-related article. I'd like to add, that this new MOS should not only include Spanish, but also other languages in Spanish-speaking countries; such is the case of Catalan, Nahuatl, Quechua, Galician, etc. steveMX 23:15, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

I know you, In ictu oculi, are not looking for Mexican naming conventions, but I've found some pretty good discussions that can lead in the creation of this MOS. We could apply these rules to all Spanish-speaking nations. Now, the question in whether using a Catalan place name or a spanish one, can be answered in (WP:ENGLISH), where the rule states "The most general rule of the Wikipedia is that editors should use the most common form of the name or expression used in English (WP:ENGLISH)." That's why, when you search for Cataluña in the English Wikipedia, you are redirected to Catalonia, because that is how the English-speaking world refers to that province. Now for a totally different case: when a place is not known enough, like the comarca Barcelonés (which, by the way, is Barcelonès in Catalan), the name of the article will be in its native name, because it is not known enough, or has no English translation.

Grutas de Cacahuamilpa

Perdóname:

No soy experto (?) en el país de México. Sin embargo, puedo leer mapas, y manejé de la Capital a esas grutas, este Miércoles, pasado. Entóces, tengo que escribir ALGO sobre el artículo con tema de las "Grutas de Cacahuamilpa." En ese artículo (en Inglés), que dice que las grutas quedan al sur-este del la Capital. No es cierto. Las grutas quedan al oeste-sur-oeste de la Capital. Y hay una representación visual en ese articulo (como se vea, en Inglés) que la hace a Taxco aparecer como ella queda proxima a la costa, también, incorrecto. Por lo menos, Taxco no aparece quedar (en la representación visuál) al este de la Capital. Si cualquiera persona no tiene planes de viajar a esa gruta, no importa el error; pero, . . .

Colours of weatherboxes for locations in Mexico

Most of the weatherboxes have been reverted back to using standard colours. Before this, the majority of them used pastel temperature colours and used green precipitation colours. There should be a discussion in deciding which colour schemes should be used (even if you have never edited the weatherbox or the climate section before) in order to reach a consensus and thus use the same colour scheme for any location/city/town/municipality located in Mexico. Although a discussion can be found, given that how good the weatherbox looks depends on its climate and amount of data varies across countries. In this way, it avoids/minimizes any controversial edits over this.

This tree is to be found in the Western Ghats (Hills) of India. The word Mictecacisuatl is derived from three Sanskrit words and can be analysed as follows- / Mitteca' = 'Muktaka' ' one who is freed ( from the cycle of life and death) or ' mrutaka' = the dead, 'Cisu' = Sisu'= baby or child, ' atl'/atli/ = aatra/aatri (Fem.) = protect/ protector- woman. The word Suixtocisuatra is derived from four Sanskrit words- it can be analysed as follows- /Su/+/ixto/+ / cisu/+ /atl/- which mean- ' su '=good,(well behaved),'ixto/ = Ichchita = wanted/desired/loved/dear/ ' cisu= 'sisu'= baby,' atl'= 'aatra/= protector. Thus the name of the Goddess is 'Protector of our dear/beloved babies, as against the Goddess ' Mictecacisuatl who takes care of the dear dead babies. I do not know why or how she is called the Salt Goddess.

Re-evaluation of XHTVM-TV

It's been a few years since this article was looked at, and I feel it's better than stub class (it doesn't carry a stub template). Law of Mexico, differences with European law, possible DYK submission

I created an article on the law of Mexico. I am having trouble discerning between Mexican law and European law (and what should be included in the article), and, being from the United States and not speaking Spanish, this is quite difficult for me. I have given it an initial assessment of "High", although it may well be "Top" given its relevance to pretty much every problem Mexico has. It has been suggested to me that I submit it for a DYK article, but I'm not sure if I can meet the stringent requirements (as in it must be five times larger than what it was 5 days ago, as I created it a couple weeks ago); if we can't, I'm sure an article on some random flower is more important and interesting to people. I was thinking the hook should be about the five consecutive and uninterrupted decisions (ejecutorias) requirement for case law. If there is anyone out there with a college degree in law from a Latin American country, your input and help would be greatly appreciated. Int21h (talk) 10:16, 10 November 2013 (UTC)

Mayan caves in the Yucatan (seeking additional information for this article)

Hello ! I have a question about Maya archeology . In the mid- 90s . I watched an interesting TV show . In it a group of people studied karst system in the Yucatan . At the deepest and furthest from the surface of the cave they found a small, stuffy stones input ( such as having the right kind of masonry ) , allegedly leading to the lower world (or sanctuary) Maya. This entry allegedly walled Mayan priests to keep out strangers in a holy place (like Spanish ) when they invaded their land. Log in to open did not. In this TV show is over. For information about entering I have never found . If you know , please tell me : what was this cave , and where in fact this is the input? Hierve del Agua

On the wiki Page for Hierve del Agua i found a small mistake - it states that visitors are charged 50 to 60 pesos to entre the site. When i visited on April 1st 2014 the charges were: 10 pesos per person to enter the area (Village) and 25 pesos per person to enter the site of Hierve del Agua. Reasons for that latter move, have been documented at the talk page.
2. Jojhutton reverted: 16:48, 10 July 2015‎ Jojhutton (talk | contribs)‎ m . . (46,402 bytes) (0)‎ . . (Jojhutton moved page Baja California (state) to Baja California over redirect: Do not agree with previous undiscussed move. There is no evidence of confusion.)
3. I reverted, addressing the misinformed "There is no evidence of confusion". My edit summary "Evidence is at the talk page, please don't disrupt the clean up process"
4. Jojhutton reverted again: Use the RM process. Articles should only be moved without discussion if there is no opposition.
5. I reverted again, addressing the fact, that the only known opposition was misinformed: over redirect: no opposition, beside a misinformed (user received clarification), known

Then the above threat. Now, I think that Jojhutton ignores Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, which states, that one should be explicit about the reasons for a revert. Jojhutton didn't gave a valid reason, there was a misinformed one that was addressed and there was a procedural one that does not apply, since "Articles should only be moved without discussion if there is no opposition." I agree with the latter, but reason-based opposition (When reverting, be specific about your reasons) is not known to me. Eldizzino (talk) 18:58, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Connecting with INEGI

I did work on connecting articles with INEGI identifiers. That involved creating an article for every municipality, then putting all articles about localities in municipality specific categories. It also involved clearly separating topics, e.g. there is the Yucatán Peninsula and the much smaller state of Yucatán. Similar for Baja California. In both cases, there exist many links from articles to the plain name, even if from context one can see that the state is not the correct entity for the link target.

For the article names I applied standard conventions for performing the work, the municipalities are at "X Municipality" and states are, if ambiguous at "X (state)".

In Wikidata I requested the creation of a property "INEGI locality identifier", it has been created and can be found at https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Property:P1976

In Wikidata I merged several items bringing Dutch, Serbo-Croatian, Russian, German, Spanish, French Wikipedia articles together in one item. Serbo-Croatian is outstanding, as a bot has created ~100 000 stub articles. I filed a bot request at Wikidata:Bot requests#100 000 localities of Mexico to get labels from Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia. Hopefully the items then can be matched with articles in Spanish and Engish Wikipedia.

@SusunW and Rosiestep: - we met at Talk:Haciendas of Yucatán. What do you think about that layout:

• Each of the municipalities of Mexico should have an article at "X Municipality" where "X" is the official name, i.e. no translation, e.g. Playas de Rosarito Municipality and NOT Rosarito Beach Municipality. Also not "Municipality of X" and not "X (municipality)". Article names should be highly predictable per WP:SURPRISE. If more than one municipality exists, in Mexico or in other countries, then the article is at "X Municipality, state name"
• A category for each municipality article is created, named exactly like the article
• All articles about localities (localidades) are placed into the corresponding municipality category are a subcategory thereof.

This will help to connect articles with Wikidata and the used centrally stored content, e.g. the INEGI identifier, population data, area etc. Eldizzino (talk) 19:58, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

@Eldizzino: to be quite honest, I don't know a lot about the municipalities other than Yucatán and I only started working on them because I want to do the haciendas. It would make my work on the haciendas much easier if the localidades and municipios were done and a bot sounds lovely. We need an article Cannabis in Mexico

Hello, I'm working at WP:WikiProject Cannabis, and we're trying to expand our coverage of "Cannabis in (country)" articles, and I saw that we don't have one for Mexico. The subject is a complicated and interesting one there, with Mexico's role in popularizing cannabis in the United States, the way racism towards Hispanics in the US led to cannabis being made illegal, Mexico's role in mass-producing and exporting cannabis as it grew popular in the US in the 1960s, and Mexico's current situation with the Drug War and cartels, and how that's being affected by legalization and competition in the US. Having a strong and well-referenced article would really help to address myths and misunderstandings about the situation, and bring accurate facts to Wikipedia readers.

We have some suggestions at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Cannabis#.22Cannabis_in_.28Country.29.22_articles_for_creation_and_expansion for how to help add more countries to our coverage; anyone here want to help out by covering Mexico? Why is there no article about Yuya?

Please look at the article List of the most subscribed users on YouTube. Each of these mega-YouTubers rightly has an article about them, but the 17th most popular YouTuber in the world, Mariand Castrejon, beauty expert from Mexico, has none.

Why is this? I don't know, but she's only become hugely famous a little bit recently. Also, she's about the girliest girly-girl I've ever seen, and we Wikipedians aren't a very girly bunch.

Whatever the reason, she's hugely popular and getting more so every day, so let there be an article about Mariand Castrejon.

I am creating them on ENwiki rather than ESwiki because on EN notability is generally presumed for high schools, while this is not so for ESwiki (in other words I can create an article about a high school article on ENwiki and generally expect it to survive as long as it can be verified to exist, even if I have not yet found secondary sources about that high school).

The idea is to get new editors for Wikipedia by enticing high schoolers to edit articles about their schools. In this case though they have to do it in English, not Spanish. WhisperToMe (talk) 08:27, 13 April 2016 (UTC)

Orphaned football club

Hello all! As I was looking through orphaned articles, I stumbled upon Alacranes Rojos. The article claims the team plays in Segunda División de México however they don't seem to be listed at that page or at List of football clubs in Mexico. Can someone who knows a bit more about this (or maybe even who speaks some Spanish?) take a look and confirm that the team really does play in Segunda Division? Announcing WikiConference North America in San Diego, Fri-Mon 7-10 October

I am not a regular participant to this WikiProject, so please excuse my intrusion. Still, I thought this would be of interest. Thanks RightCowLeftCoast for introducing this conference in a previous note here.

I am inviting participants in WikiProject United States to WikiConference North America to be held in San Diego Friday to Monday 7-10 October. Here are further details:

• We are accepting submissions until 31 August.
• We are accepting scholarship applications 9 August - 23 August. About 40 scholarships are available only for people in Canada, the US, and Mexico. Last year about 200 people applied for scholarships.
• More volunteers are needed. In the usual wiki-way, anyone may comment on program submissions. At the conference in person, all staff will be volunteer and all attendees are encouraged check in with conference organizers about volunteering for the task queue even for an hour. Anyone interested may contact FloNight and Rosiestep to offer volunteer support.
• Major sponsorship for the conference comes from the San Diego Public Library who are providing the venue and a grant from the Wikimedia Foundation.
• This is the third year of this conference, with WikiConference USA being in New York in 2014 and in Washington DC in 2015. Check the schedules of those for examples of what kinds of programming will be offered this year.

Latin American 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Latin America/The 10,000 Challenge ‎ has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Argentina etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. § Personal life and death of the article begins "Juan Gabriel was never married." I'm nothing like fluent in Spanish, but I can get something out of it. In one of the videos included in reference LatinTimes, one of the two women in the conversation is describing the communications and relations between father and son. At about 2:34 into the clip she says "su hijo legítimo" ("his legitimate son"), stressing the adjective emphatically with her voice and a raised index finger.

Can someone fluent in Spanish please check that video? It may lead somewhere we can follow. Please {{Ping}} me to discuss.

No, Bluerasberry, it hasn't progressed any further. At this point, my best guess (and a pretty weak one at that) is that the woman who claimed he was "su hijo legítimo" was either wrong, or misinformed, or using the word in a different way than the legal usage of "legitimate" in English-- and, I presume but am not sure, "legítimo" in Spanish; perhaps that Juan Gabriel accepted and acknowledged the man as his son. --Thnidu (talk) 21:14, 24 January 2017 (UTC)

Help with deleting references to the made up Mexican regions

The regions of Mexico that were used on a large set of articles, have now been found to be completely made up.^{AfD 1, 2} Given that those regions are fake, their mentions need to be deleted in other articles on the wiki. New Article Proposal Under WikiProject Mexico

@Jk956: I am a student planning on creating an article on food security in Mexico. Would anyone have any recommendations for how I should go about doing so? • @Jk956: That's a very difficult topic – thank you for deciding to take it! For starters, I would look at other "Food security in ____" articles and create an outline of what the Mexico article should look like. At least know what sections exist/are appropriate and then go from there. Before you start writing, I would add bullet points to each section with what you want to cover, and the sources you will use for each section (sometimes those overlap). When I'm writing big articles, I like to add the sources first in the draft. That takes me about 1–2 weeks. I then read them all (you'll probably have to check out books at a library or use Google Books, so your timeline might be different. Citing book sources is a different monster, especially if you're doing multiple pages in different parts of the same book. I can help you with this). Then I create an outline, and then I start writing. You can do it in many different ways, but I feel like this approach helps me organize my writing. IF you read Spanish and have access to such books, this can really enhance the quality of the article. Feel free to ping me back here and/or in your sandbox page. Article: Greek Mexicans

The title of this article might seriously be reconsidered to establish just what is the intent of the article since ethnicity and nationality are not synonymous and the statistics concern a variety of facts that are not necessarily consistently supporting. You can have people of Greek and Mexican ethnicity living outside Mexico yet they are Greek Mexicans.

This reminds me of a personal experience where I had a neighbor born in Vietnam to parents that were ethnically Chinese. So here we have a former Vietnamese citizen whose ethnicity was Chinese living in the US. She is of Vietnamese nationality but certainly not of Vietnamese ethnicity. Also take as an example people of the US. We are all fundamentally from some other place that usually defines our ethnicity. I cannot tell you how many people I have run across from thre Mediterranean area that migrated from one country although they were a refugee from another where they were born yet ethnically their parents came from yet another country because of some other diaspora.2605:E000:9143:7000:C801:CBEF:3187:27AA (talk) 14:23, 23 January 2018 (UTC)

Eyes on Teotlalpan

It would be good with more eyes and attention on Teotlalpan it is created by Marrovi (talk · contribs) who has been blocked at different times at different wikiprojects because they insist on creating low quality articles about the area where they live, with OR, poor sourcing and atrocious grammar. He has been told by many editors in many wikiprojects that there are problems with his articles, but nonetheless he persists. "Teotlalpan" is the informal name of a not clearly defined region covering parts of Hidalgo and Mexico State, but it was never an major administrative region and there are no sources specifically about the region. I have proposed merging the article to Mezquital, since several articles mention that Teotlalpan was simply the prehispanic name for Mezquital and that it was superseded by the name "Mezquital" in the late 18th century. The little informaiton we have about the prehispanic region can be easily covered in the history section of the article on Mezquital Valley. Each of these lyric tenors from Mexico achieved international acclaim interpreting the boleros of Agustín Lara and María Grever as well as the standard operatic repertoire and were held in high esteem both in North and South America as well as in Europe and new York during the 1930s and the 1940s. They also recorded extensively for RCA, RCA Victor, and Columbia Records in both North and South America with leading concert orchestras and radio orchestras including CBS. Juan Arvizu is credited with "discovering" the Mexican composer Agustín Lara in a café in Mexico and employing him as an accompanist on the piano. He is also recognized as one of the most successful recording artists on the RCA label of his time (credited with performing nearly 2,000 songs).
