MOS page about articles Buddhism

Dear fellow Wikipedians, In response to repeated discussions about policies and whether they hold for articles on Buddhism, I have drafted a policy proposal to include into the Manual of Style for Wikipedia articles about Buddhism. The proposal does not actually include much new policy, but rather attempts to apply policy to articles on Buddhism in an understandable way, similar to MOS:ISLAM. Distinguish two temples with same name

I need to correct the link to "Hosshō-ji" in List of National Treasures of Japan (sculptures). It currently links to Hosshō-ji (ja:法勝寺) but should link to a temple by the same name (Hosshō-ji) in Romaji which in Japanese is spelled ja:法性寺. This article does not exist yet, so would be a red link. Usually if there are two temples with the same name, I would add the city name in parentheses in the title. However since both temples are located in Kyoto this does not work here. How should I name the new article? bamse (talk) 21:52, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Maybe you could add the name of the ku, like "Hosshō-ji (Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto)". I think we are going to need something like that, as there are quite a few temples with the same name (ja:法性寺 (曖昧さ回避)), many not in cities. – Margin1522 (talk) 07:28, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

A little help in French WP?

I've just learned that the (Japanese) photographer Kensuke Kazama died five months ago, and accordingly have updated our article about him. (Yes, I realize that the result needs further work.) Back in 2013, this article was (machine?) translated for fr:WP. The perpetrator of it and many similar creations would go on to getting permanently blocked from fr:WP; and perhaps the article fr:Kensuke Kazama shouldn't exist. But exist it does, and it describes Kazama as living. Over the years my ability to write in French has atrophied to near zilch, and I don't want my incompetence to create work for others. Would somebody here who's not so handicapped care to make at least the minimal changes to that French-language article? (Perhaps especially desirable in view of the circumstances of Kazama's death.) Thank you, WhisperToMe. ¶ Ahem! Unfortunately bare "juin 2017" is not a complete date, so the resulting page showed a red "this template is unhappy" warning. But your edit prompted me to go in and (mis)use my atrocious French to make little improvements/degradations to the article. (Refreshingly, fr:WP seems to like the historic present tense for past reference, so I didn't have to probe my ageing brain for the little that I'd ever absorbed about the passé simple.) -- Hoary (talk) 23:50, 17 November 2017 (UTC)

Japanese text question

What is the Japanese title of http://web.archive.org/web/19961128190510/http://condor.stcloud.msus.edu:20020/index2.html ? I have it linked from the JAwiki article: ja:兵庫県南部地震 and want to have its Japanese title in text there.

www.patternz.jp - reliable source or personal blog?

At first glance the recent additions for this domain to Japan-related articles by a new editor seem to link to an unreliable blog (see EL list at [1]), the site is only maintained by 1 writer and 1 photographer per its "About" page. It would be great if a more knowledgeable uninvolved editor of Japan-related topics could double-check these link additions to avoid an erroneous mass revert. It seems like a clear case of an unreliable blog, but I am not 100% sure. GermanJoe (talk) 17:09, 6 November 2017 (UTC)

Done - a quick update: I have removed the links in question (a personal website possibly maintained by the editor, and several other blogs, forums and commercial sites). Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto (Kyoto, Uji and Otsu Cities)

I've decide to overhaul this article (which is essentially a list, given its topic). I've created a proof-of-concept layout at User:Calton/Kyoto List. Any suggestions on additions/modifications? --Calton | Talk 03:27, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Very happy that you want to tackle this list. Already looks very good, just a few thoughts:

• "The second of the two Kamo-jinja," Why the second? (note that the table is sortable, so Shimogamo could also be the first in the list after sorting.)
• As a reader the area column does not give me much, but that might be personal taste.
• Information should be referenced to a source.
• Might be able to compress information in the last column a bit more, because on my small laptop screen, it is split in many lines. For instance: "Buddhist temple of the Shingon sect," is already stated in the "type" column. Some information might not be that essential "together, they stood alongside the Rashomon, gate to the Heian capital.", "which indicates that it previously functioned as a temple providing protection for the nation." (somewhat evident from the name). Built dates could go to the period column. I'd go with just the most important information in that column, not the whole history of the temples.
• "18 Japanese Important Cultural Properties" Did you mean to link this to Important Cultural Property (Japan) or do you mean something else? If it is 18 Important Cultural Properties, that's not very impressive. Generally if you want to list cultural properties, Special Places of Scenic Beauty, etc, I think it should be done for all the temples consistently. However I suspect you will run out of space very soon.
• "was a [..] complex of [...] and a powerful army of warrior monks." is probably missing a verb after "and"
• Just to clarify, "period" starts with the founding of the temple, not with the construction of the oldest extant structure?
• Wikipedia prefers the spelling Sanbō-in (instead of Sanpo-in
• "resembling a beautiful green carpet with many subtle shades. " might not go well with WP:NPOV
