Wikipedia:WikiProject Novels/Articles-Images in danger of deletion

This page can be used by project editors to alert each other where articles or images are under challenge in some way. It should be a kind of noticeboard, worklist, discussion forum, rapid reaction force, or challenge confirmation exchange.

Initially the two types of item being considered are basic Wikipedia articles in the WP:Novels project scope and Wikipedia images that are used in such articles, typically cover images.

Challenge types edit

Articles

  • Prod
  • AFD
  • Copyright

Images

For major list of book cover images in fair-use dispute see User:SkierRMH/List4.
  • Unspecified source
  • Fair use rationale needed
  • Orphaned non-free media
  • Non-free use disputed

How to use this "noticeboard"! edit

  1. When you find an article or image that is under threat take details and include information below.
  2. Regularly watch this page to see if others post such items.
  3. Include your comments on the listing or perhaps the "challenge".
  4. then respond suitably to the challenge in the accepted was (each type of challenge requires a different response)
  5. Once the process has been completed (either way) the template {{Resolved|1=~~~~}} can be included at the end to show closure.
    e.g.
      Resolved
     – :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 11:33, 28 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

n.b. do bear in mind that even if you might personally feel attached to the item, the challenge may be entirely justified and the proper response would be to assist in the challenge rather than defend the item.

Adding an item edit

A template has been provided to structure the entries

Usage:

{{subst:NVAlert
|concern= "PROD", "AFD", "Copy", "Source", "FUR", "Orphan", "NonFree" etc.
|type=filetype "Article" or "Image"
|name=filename the item name itself (needs to be exact)
|desc= freeform descriptive of the problem with your comments.
|user=~~~~}}

Please remember to include your reason for proposing deletion, and please use an edit summary when you propose an article for deletion.

n.b. "PROD", "AFD", "Copy", are only relevant for articles.
"Source", "FUR", "Orphan", "NonFree" are only relevant for images.

Disputed book cover images edit

Simon Templar series images edit

During the Christmas holidays my talk page was spammed by the Betacommandbot. Among the many images it flagged as having no rationale (which of course is utterly wrong - it just doesn't have the template certain factions have taken as being law) are several images from the Simon Templar "Saint" series. I uploaded 50 of the things and I refuse to waste my time without pay to bring it in line with Beta's standards; presumably they're all marked for termination, or will be soon. If someone wants to go through all 50 books and reinvent the wheel, please do so. Otherwise the images can die as far as I'm concerned. 23skidoo (talk) 02:12, 3 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I am listing this here simply in order to promote the use of this page. The Betacommandbot is trying to delete this first edition cover. I'm listing this in order to promote the use of this page, but I'm going to handle it directly. And I make no apologies for sounding snarky as I do so.

23skidoo 04:35, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nor should you! The only thing is, it is difficult to debate a Bot. Sometimes I notice they make silly mistakes such as criticize a "Fair use rationale" that is there, but doesn't use an accepted template. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 08:37, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I was a little harsh on the poor bot! Near as I can figure the only reason the image was flagged was because the Summary did not specifically include a wikilink to the article in question. I wonder how many images have been lost as a result. This is one reason why I am no longer submitting new images of any kind of Wikipedia. 23skidoo 14:44, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Understand, however as I have started adding the template I have had no further images thrown out or even challenged. :: Kevinalewis : (Talk Page)/(Desk) 14:51, 26 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
