Singapore lockdown, revisited

I noticed that the page on Singapore is still protected even though you said that unprotection would come early September (see here). Has the "edit war" (as claimed in the protection log) died down, and if so, when are you going to unprotect it? FREYWA 06:04, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Reduced to semi-protection. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:20, 9 October 2011 (UTC)
  •   Facepalm... Whoa~! Its obvious that we both forgot about this... Anytime when you're ready, I'll run things over with you but please be on the look out for the frog and other autoconfirmed WP:CPUSH editors, incluidng IPs. Thoughts? On the other hand, the original trouble maker - User:Fleetham has been blocked for one month for his persistent edit warring/disruptive editing behaviour on other pages, which includes violations of WP:SYN, WP:UNSOURCED and WP:COPYVIO. --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 16:41, 9 October 2011 (UTC)

Libya protection

Hi Zscout370, I notice that you have been active on the Libya article and have introduced and applied auto-confirmed user protection to the article. I have been editing there today and have encountered some quite spirited reversions and some lively abuse for performing edits there. I am not very impressed, in particular by the actions of one rather bombastic and belligerant individual. I have looked over some of his other contributions and I can see something of a pattern in his behaviour.
I have left an edit note on my last significant edit in that article:

  • "this article appears to be subject to WP:GAME and well as unjustified WP:REV and deletion of cited material including the replacement content with uncited substitutions, please stop this behaviour, do not WP:OWN and read WP:DRNC".

I doubt it will have much effect as he seems inclined toward WP:GAME behaviour and will no doubt see anything contained within x as a challenge to hurl some more nonsense around and to block revert again. As you appear to have administrator status here perhaps you could keep an eye on the article for a while as I anticipate my recent edits to that article will be reverted by this editor within a quite narrow time frame. Thanks,--Felix (talk) 17:06, 23 October 2011 (UTC)

I had protections applied to that article in the past over various issues, such as what infobox is included and now it is about to be changed again for perhaps the coat of arms issue. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:14, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I think the national anthem looks a bit odd but appears to be for real. My understanding is that the NTC is promoting the old monachist anthem-Established with the independence of Libya in 1951 until the coup of 1969. The original national anthem of Libya was composed and written specifically for Libya. Lyrics: Al Bashir Al-Oreibi, Composer: Mohammed Abdel Wahab (1907-1991) [1] I have listened to it.. there is no singing, so I am not sure where the Libya Libya Libya thing is coming from. [2] The sound files on the two pages seem a bit dissimilar but I could not endure it too many times and gave up on it. I will add a cite to http://www.nationalanthems.info/ly.htm into the article info panel. --Felix (talk) 17:51, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
I remember the NTC website talked about that anthem being "Libya's anthem" yet when the Constitutional Draft came out, no anthem was mentioned other than "It will be determined by law" (Article 2), along with a coat of arms. The only symbol that has been confirmed was the flag, which is the same flag used before the Gaddafi period and mentioned in Article 3 of said Draft. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 23:49, 23 October 2011 (UTC)
You I think are quite correct. Do you think we should be following the lead of the NTC 'proclamation' at the 'Liberation' ceremonies or should we rather consider it as a pronouncement of 'intent'? They are only a provisional authority and at this time Libya does not have a formally constituted government. Therefore there is a vacuum under which it is not really appropriate (or constitutionally possible) to proclaim something like a national anthem. Personally I think this may be an outcome of the enthusiasm to legitimise the situation in Libya by the promotion of the NTC as something they do not even claim to be themselves. At best we are to see an "interim government" sometime in the next 30 days. However that has been announced previously and still not happened for a multitude of reasons. The principal issues, according to the NTC leadership are those of factionalism and internal conflict, plus outside challenges to the NTC as being a legitimate and fully representative national provisional administrative body. The process of civil war and conflict no doubt also has a great bearing upon this. This may indicate that it is premature to recognise this even as a provisional anthem. How the NTC can decide on an anthem and yet cannot decide on a legislature opens some questions. This anthem choice may be an internal political appeasement to the monarchists, or it could be an appeal to popularism. It may change and evolve further in the next few months. I put in the cite/s toward fulfiling the need to source information in the article but I am concerned that the anthem is and cannot be a national anthem unless it is proclaimed as such by the legally constituted government of Libya. That does not exist yet and I think the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya is not going to get much acknowledgement, so therefore Libya does not have a government, at best it has an an unconstituted transitional administration. Maybe it should be described as a "proposed Libyan national anthem", or "Libyan national anthem (pending). Just kidding around of course but maybe it is a notional anthem. -- Felix (talk) 08:45, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Seal of the National Transitional Council

If it is of any interest my viewpoint on the use of the Seal of the National Transitional Council is that it should most certainly not appear in the Libya {{about|the country}} pane. Rather it should be presented somewhere suitably prominent in the article body in the normal px size. Somewhere in the 2011 revolution and interim government section appears appropriate. In National Transitional Council it should appear in the infobox as is. It does not appear in 2011 Libyan civil war at this time. It is not a seal, crest or coat of arms that has been executed under a constitution of Libya, even a provisional one as they do not yet have one, but they have stated clearly that they are undertaking the 'drafting' of one www.ntclibya.org/english/libya/

It is sometimes described as a "Constitution Declaration for governing during the transitional period". A constitution, a draft constitution and a "Constitution Declaration for governing" are quite different things. I am unsure of your views on all this but that roughly outlines my own assessment of it.--Felix (talk) 09:23, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Block reverts and edit warring at Libya

Hi again, Kudzu1 (talk), is block reverting my edits again. This is now 5 block reverts of active article editing in 24hrs. I have detailed the edit and my rational for the content on the talk page in response to Kudzu1. He seems to have personal issues concerning the recognition of the NTC and claims it is widely recognised as the government of Libya. I believe this may have been at the core of his complaints yesterday. I have asked him to cite or provide some sources to support his assertions that the NTC is the Govt of Libya but he has not done so. His current issue appears to have been clarified, it is that I am seeking " to cast aspersions on the widespread recognition of the NTC as Libya's legitimate government by the international community". I think he is trying to control the article, I can speculate a few reasons that may be driving this but I think the main issue here is that he is taking possession of the article, he is replacing correctly sourced and cited material with that that is incorrect and un cited, or just removing it. He did start editing rationally for a while yesterday and made a few quite normal and reasonable adjustments to the article. He has described himself as "an active member of WikiProject Libya and stated "I've been editing Wikipedia articles since 2005" and commented on my not being a regular editor on the article. Frankly I think he has ownership issues and article control issues, I have challenged him on this and he has denied it illustrating this by letting me know that significant changes had been made to the article "with no objection from me". He appear to be baiting, building strawmen and to be 'gaming' as described in WP:GAME. Judging by the way he started deriding me at the outset I assume he is baiting me with intent, regrettably he has been successful at doing that and managed to suck up hours of otherwise productive edit time. There is a long exchange at Talk:Libya-Federal Republic?. I have tried to disengage and just spell out the facts with him as it does not seem very productive, he is not responsive to request for supporting information to back his assertions. I have tried to find some sort of closure with him but is is not successful. I think he is trying to keep me busy so I do not change the article in a way that he does not sanction. I think he is just a pest, however his aim to prevent me editing that article is quite apparent. Frankly my opinion is that he is trying to lead me to an edit war so that he can claim 3RR breach, yet interestingly he has already performed 5 block reverts himself whilst I have been actively editing. Maybe you have some administrator skills to deal with this. -- Felix (talk) 15:21, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Logo deletion from International reactions on M. Kaddafi death

I may not not remember it rightly, but I remember that: road signs, marks, symbols of quality, state decorations, medals, badges, emblems of cities or administrative units, official symbols, international marking, flags, state logos of the national organizations and international institutions are not subjects copyrighting law. Correct me if I'm wrong. So if Amnesty International is international organisation then its logo is not subject of copyrighting law?Boniek1988 (talk) 23:54, 30 October 2011 (UTC)

It depends from country to country. In the case of Amnesty International, the logo is copyrighted and while it can be used in Wikipedia, but only under certain circumstances. Having a copyrighted image used as an icon, like it was in the Gaddafi article, was not within Wikipedia policy. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:06, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Please consider restoring Sparra.

Deletion of the page 'Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network'

Hello,

I am with the Canadian HIV/AIDS Legal Network, and our page was deleted by you due to 'copyright infringement'. However, the text was copied directly from our website, indicating our mission, vision and values. We own all rights to our website, have made the information available to the public for anybody to copy, and would like our wikipedia page to be back up. Can you please get back to me about this? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.224.91.198 (talk) 14:28, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Follow the directions at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Donating_copyrighted_materials#Granting_us_permission_to_copy_material_already_online to where we have a concrete permission. Then the text could be restored. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 14:38, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

I did send an email granting copyright permission to the email address - will I receive an email back - and do you know how long that usually takes? Or will the page just come back up on Wikipedia? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.224.91.198 (talk) 16:15, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Construction sheet

Hi there. I see that you've done a fair bit on flags through the times, and wondered if you'd be able to help me out. I'm doing a bit of work on Flag of the Isle of Man (working in my sandbox) and wondered if you'd be able to create a construction sheet for the flag for me? It's a little (a lot) out of my comfort zone, and you seem to have good experience in the area. Any help with that, or advice for the rest of the article would be much appreciated. Path of action

In regards to Fantasy666, who Dave raised on your talkpage awhile ago, I was wondering what the correct course of action for dealing with the 30kb of CPUSH stuff they flooding the singapore page with (and that doesn't include the things they removed). Would it be to revert to the Pre-Fantasy version and then introduce any positive changes back in, or go section by section on the current article. Thanks, Chipmunkdavis (talk) 17:17, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

  • Hello again Zscout370, I must say that I agreed with Chipmunkdavis there, the article page was literally flooded with some redundant data that should reside in their respective spin-off section instead of residing in the main page. Also, I'm with Davis for reverting the page to the version before Fantasy666's influx/torrent of extraneous information. Anyway, I remembered that you said that you wanted to collaborate on this article page and Davis here wants to do his bit too, so... any advice or help from you would be much appreciated. Thoughts? --Dave ♠♣♥♦™№1185©♪♫® 07:21, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

I am not involved in anything to do with the content or editing of the article, so I see no problem with both Chipmunkdavis and Dave1185 requesting admin help there. Request

Hi, I'd like to ask you for clarification. You have blocked User:Psalm Tours for Using Wikipedia for spam or advertising purposes: Also a role account, confirmed by http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/User:Psalm_Tours, however the User page indicates that it is blocked for sockpuppetry. This is misleading message, and clarification is available at here and here. Could you please advice if the message on User:Psalm Tours can be changed to reflect the reality and prevent some users from misleading allegations. Thanks. -- Ashot  (talk) 16:09, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

I blocked the account for spam on Feb 20th, 2011; the next day it was marked as a sockpuppet of someone. The message is fine the way it is now since, if anything, if the users really want this account to be unblocked, they should talk to me and the checkuser. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:41, 31 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the response. The issue is that User:Psalm Tours was a role account I used to edit from. The moment I learned about the role account rule, and after User:Psalm Tours was already blocked, I registered my current account User:Ashot Arzumanyan (already as a personal account and without any intention to keep the affiliation in secret). Hence, because my current account is not a sock of User:Psalm Tours, the latter cannot be blocked for sockpuppetry. Further details of the issue are available here.
Now my request is, if possible, merge the two accounts. Otherwise, if not, I'd like to ask for indicating on the user page of Psalm Tours that it is blocked for being a role account and not for abusively using one or more accounts. -- Ashot  (talk) 19:22, 3 January 2012 (UTC)
We cannot merge accounts; but I am not sure if I can take away the message. But if there is a concern that your account will be blocked, this discussion would be archived so I can show other admins to help get you unblocked if that ever happened. Deletion of Marc Ecko

I noticed that in September, you restored the Marc Ecko page after it was deleted on claims that it was biased. I've since tried to clean up the article, yet User:Fastily deleted it again. Since Marc Ecko is clearly a valid candidate to have an article, would you be so kind as to restore it once again? If further editing is required to make the page acceptable under Wikipedia's guidelines, I'm happy to do it. Thank you for considering! Transatlanick (talk) 15:13, 3 January 2012 (UTC)

Seems you got "used" again, however Sock puppeteer User:GarnetAndBlack / User:129.252.69.40 (stalker/troll/warrior) is back to reverting logos again on South Carolina athletics and tearing down on rival pages, the usual article WP:DE. MSU Interview

Dear Zscout370,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC) Young June Sah --Yjune.sah (talk) 22:36, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi again Zscout370 !

Hi, can you create an SVG version of Flag of Sabah 1982-1988 like this one?. I want to create it but I didn't have a software for SVG files, hope you can help me. Cheers ! :) — NZscout   11:54, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

If you want software for SVG files, you can get Inkscape at no charge. However, the image is now at File:Flag of Sabah (1982-1988).svg. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:57, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Thank you so much Zscout370 ! :) — NZscout   18:47, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Belarus

Hello there, I've recently joined the WikiProject you created about Belarus, and I thought you might want to add this to the WikiProject page: Template:The Belarus Barnstar of National Merit. Care to give me one? I've helped out a lot with Belarus in the past. Abhijay What did I do this time? 05:18, 10 March 2012 (UTC)

Evansville flag vector

Not sure what you mean by "takers in the commercial market", but okay. Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 18:32, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

As I told you last night, I work for a flag maker and occasionally I would draw flags and hoping to get $ off of it (that is what I usually do when I want to earn $ when living in university dorms). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:34, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
But honestly, my main concern before sending the vector is making sure I got this right. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:40, 19 May 2012 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha. Well if you want some compensation I can send you a donation if you can get some kind of PayPal thing set up.   Bob the WikipediaN (talkcontribs) 19:42, 19 May 2012 (UTC)

Aceh Wikipedia

Hi, Zscout! It was a project request. Please see:

WhisperToMe (talk) 16:02, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

    • Ah, ok. I didn't know about this, so I reverted the change that I have done so far. The only thing I ask is, if possible, copy of the licensing information to the image page at the Aceh Wikipedia. There are people who are marking images as no license and I am trying to help the smaller wikis when it comes to image licensing. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:15, 21 May 2012 (UTC)
      • Sure! At some point I'll try to copy the licensing info :) WhisperToMe (talk) 21:09, 21 May 2012 (UTC)

Swiss flag

Hi. There are currently two different versions of the Swiss flag used across the English wikipedia, so I started a discussion at WT:CH#Swiss red to see if there is one better version that we could use consistently. In case you have any comment or suggestion (as a contributor to File:Flag of Switzerland.svg), you are welcome to join the discussion. mgeo talk 21:59, 22 May 2012 (UTC)

Because one uses Pantone prescribed by the government and one uses hexadecimal prescribed by the government. There are people who want to use a real flag color and I was following the spec sheet provided by the government. The other files creation and use was started because I went from Pantone to RGB. RE:Arkansas Tech University

The whole article is worrisome to me, all the list of majors/degree programs is definitely unencyclopedic. I think I am going to go through tomorrow and gut the article, pretty much start over. Right now I feel like I am reading an admissions brochure, and yes I too suspect a large chunk of this information could be copy-vio. -Marcusmax(speak) 04:16, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Too expand on that thought, the list of majors/minors could be replaced with detailed descriptions of each college. I mean ATU is an interesting school, with some unique departments like Emergency Management so there should be content for each college. The rest would be cutting the advertising, and it will be a decent article...with some extra work and maybe some images this could easily be a GA but I would need help with that. -Marcusmax(speak) 04:27, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
As I said on your talk page, I am an alumni and I just moved out of there in May, so I am very familiar with this school and will be able to help you on this. I agree about the Emergency Management (I also would look at the College of Business since it is starting to get up there and also sent some of their students (and my friends) to a SIFE National Conference). I am also Greek (ATΩ) so I can confirm everything that it is listed there (Kappa Alpha Psi is still being debated about being kicked off campus due to a hazing incident). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:33, 23 May 2012 (UTC)
I think at the very least I will clean the page up tomorrow, I have been looking for something to do after returning from a huge gap of inactivity and this might be it. -Marcusmax(speak) 04:38, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free image File:Chernenko 1984.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Chernenko 1984.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk) 04:17, 25 May 2012 (UTC)

Hi Zscout370,

I really don't recall - if I saw the images perhaps I could remember, but I don't see them at that page. --ಠ_ಠ node.ue ಠ_ಠ (talk) 17:05, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

They were PDF files of keyboard layouts, but I tried opening the PDF files and they contained a lot of errors, so I removed them. However, I saved them on my computer so I can email them to you. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:21, 4 June 2012 (UTC)

FFD

I noticed that you've been nominating files for deletion that are basically duplicates and that you are giving a full http link to the similar image. I didn't know if you knew that you could wikilink to an image like this: [[:File:RiflemansRule.svg]] The first semi-colon tells it not to display the image, just to link it. Just thought you might be interested. -- ТимофейЛееСуда. 16:17, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Well, how I am doing these deletion requests is I am using Twinkle and using multiple tabs to make the requests happen. I appreciate you letting me know about the colon stuff, but after you have been editing Wikipedia for 8 years like I have done, you just get lazy (and that is what it boils down to is laziness). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:23, 12 June 2012 (UTC)

Coat of arms of Singapore is ready for GAN; would you like to nominate it?

The only remaining issue from the previous GAN is the dead links, which I have fixed (the PMO website had a makeover). I could nominate the article myself, but since you are the primary contributor, I would prefer that you nominate it, for you deserve the credit! If you are the nominator, you would be informed once the review starts (and you are in the best position to address any further issues). --J.L.W.S. The Special One (talk) 15:07, 14 June 2012 (UTC)

What your mean about block me?

Good Morning, Sir (Western Indonesian Time)
Before, I'm sorry to all my topic. But this is regarding my good name in wikipedia and in the Wikimedia Commons. Previously I also apologize to you, because it removes the sign removed, but the logo that I uploaded is correct. Because the logo is used by companies that exist in my country (Indonesia). So, I beg you. If there is an error in making the permit was published, I have changed. rather than opposite. Want to remove the logo on Wikimedia. I hope the future, this incident does not happen again. One more thing, why did I make any re-licensing. Why do I have to be blocked? I do not at fault. Please understandable if my English is wrong.

Yours sincerely,

Luthfi Indra Yudha (LFi (talk) 04:32, 16 June 2012 (UTC))

The problem is that you were moving deletion notices from images and you cannot do that. Having the images on the Commons is something that we are discussing right now, since many of the companies are not part of the Indonesia government (if they were, we would have done something different). The block you got will expire in 3 days, but if you agree not to remove the deletion notices, I can lift the block. If I am not able to do that, grab someone else to do it. LCA

Thanks, I did pull the vector of the coat of arms from our style guide and was planning to do the same with the flag and other symbols when I actually got around to editing the article. I really appreciate the offer and the support on the KKPsi FAC and will let you know if I could use some help with the vectors! Fraternally, Sycamore (talk) 02:27, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

I know a lot of our Greek articles are very poor. I think I got that same style guide (partially to get a flag image and partially to help other ATΩ chapters with PR and other stuff, but it is online as lca_sheet3.pdf and it just has the badge and flag). I also wrote FAs too, so I know what needs to be done for it. I cannot wait to work with you. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:36, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

File:Coronel-Brazil.gif

The entry Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2012_June_25#File:Coronel-Brazil.gif does not seem to exist. I'm confused. Pdfpdf (talk) 16:47, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

I reverted myself, but forgot to remove the note on your talkpage. Anyways, what happened is that I changed the license to fair-use instead; currently the copyright law of Brazil has all other government works, besides flags and seals, must be made before 1983 in order to be copyright free. I need my morning coffee. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:52, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Jolly good! At least you sort of think you know what you're doing. Enjoy the coffee - I'm off to bed. Cheers, Pdfpdf (talk) 16:56, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Will do. I also removed the note from your talk page. Good night. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:57, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Files at Commons

Hi there, I got a file deletion note from you since the image is now available on Commons. For future reference, you don't need to open a formal deletion discussion in such cases. Just put {{nowcommons}} on the Wikipedia file page and the page will be speedily deleted. Regards, De728631 (talk) 18:15, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Since the files were of different names (and different colors), I wanted to have a formal deletion request set up to be sure. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:16, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
Good point. I've left a reply at the deletion discussion. De728631 (talk) 18:24, 25 June 2012 (UTC)
I moved the image to the Commons, so I went ahead and did a speedy deletion. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:31, 25 June 2012 (UTC)

Picture Files in Oromo Wiki

I can't believe you have deleted all the pictures I have uploaded. I had to spend lot of time to gather and prepare them (labeling, resizing, converting format, etc) for uploading into the page. At least you could have informed me before deleting them so that I can put the source as well as other things. Teferi Kebebew (talk) 15:45, 4 July 2012 (UTC)

You edit here, you know the policies. So trying to upload a picture now on another project lacking that information is going to result in speedy deletions, as it does here. Now, if you know which images have a source (or even what they are), I can review and restore the images there. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:27, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
Now some of the images have copies on the Commons, so those will be used. Others, like http://om.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Undelete/File:Paasifiik.jpg, I could probably remake on my own when I get time. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:29, 4 July 2012 (UTC)
It is Ok, I have most of the pictures on my computer. I can upload them again putting all the information needed on them. Thanks for replying.Teferi Kebebew (talk) 13:56, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
There is undelete for images, so you don't have to reupload. I just need licensing information and I can take care of the rest. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 15:27, 16 July 2012 (UTC)
I have the source information for most of the pictures, but not copyright. Almost all of them are not copyrighted as far as I know. How can I give you the source information now (since the file is already uploaded, how can I attach source and other information)?Teferi Kebebew (talk) 09:13, 18 July 2012 (UTC)
If you have the source information, you can press "edit" and you can add the information. I can check the sources and confirm licensing. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:21, 18 July 2012 (UTC)

Non-free rationale for File:Rudnitsky-normand-pioneer.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Rudnitsky-normand-pioneer.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:01, 8 July 2012 (UTC)

Old deletion you participated in: David R. Hawkins

Requesting Restoration of David R. Hawkins: I ran across this fellow and noticed his page was deleted on a PROD a couple of years ago but prior to that you had over-trurned your own deletion on this one. This doctor, author and lecturer is clearly known, even the most-brain dead of the over-zealous admins should be able to see that this guy is notable. He is anAmerican but even the German wiki has a decent sized article on him: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_R._Hawkins Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 05:17, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Years ago, I became involved in this article due to a lot of issues going on at OTRS. I mostly overturned my deletion because I restored one edit that was within policies about living people and getting rid of a lot of unsourced information. What I would suggest is to go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Requests_for_undeletion and have the page undeleted. I prefer to have a new set of eyes to look at this article. I have nothing against this man or his ideas, or even give a second thought about it, but with the vindictive nature of how some people are on this site when it comes to restorations and deletions, I want someone who never dealt with this before. (Also, I am from the US, but we have a lot of people who do not check before tagging). User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 05:29, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
The German article is indeed long, but it isn't sourced at all. Creating a new talk page for a deleted article isn't a good idea and I'll delete it. I've looked at the latest version of the article, which had nothing I could see that would make him pass our criteria for notability although co-authoring a book with Pauling seems impressive, but getting a PhD from the unaccredited Columbia Pacific University is anything but impressive. And in fact, he didn't co-author the book (nor does he claim to have co-authored it), he was co-editor, not quite the same thing. Dougweller (talk) 10:04, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
And that was one of the issues we had here is a lot of the information was unsourced (and we got email complaints on that years ago). I do not plan on restoring the article and I will let REFUND deal with it. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:11, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
Well, Doug isn't impressed by the man's second doctoral degree so he doesn't meet the notable criteria. I am not impressed by Doug, criticizing the man's Phd and overlooking his MD, also particularly in stating a co-authorship of "the book", when you can clearly see that he has authored numerous books, lectured across the world and founded several organizations. Picking and choosing facts and information. Anyway, Zscout370, didn't intend to carry this out on your page. I don't intend to write the article, just point out another very obvious error made here. Absurd. Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 18:51, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
I have no problems with this being carried out on my talk page, I was involved with the article before and you made the right decision to come here. But in short, I been heavily involved in the past and I need someone else to look at the article with a fresh set of eyes. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:38, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I have better things to write about than Hawkins. He may be notable enough for an article, I really don't know, but a lot of the things you put on my page don't help with WP:NOTE, from his mail order PhD to the " Physicians Recognition Award" which isn't a big deal at all. I don't know why you don't want to put the time in to find out what might meet our criteria and use that in your userpace, but if you don't, I can't see why you'd expect me to. Dougweller (talk) 20:27, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I meant to say that the knighthood might help, but avoid all the trivia, don't overload it. Stick to only the things that are going to clearly meet our criteria at WP:PEOPLE, etc. Dougweller (talk) 20:29, 12 July 2012 (UTC)
I see that you deleted in the info from your talk page, I left you. I am not really sure why you feel the need to "direct" me in composing an article on David R. Hawkins, as I have stated, I have little interest in the man, but I can clearly see that he is notable. That is my argument to your objection. ...and I have far better things to do as well, than write about him; he has clearly met the notability requirements for BLP, but his "non-notablity" has been placed in notes as for admin reasoning for deletion and he continues to been seen in English-Wiki as not notable. That's the point. Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 20:39, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Doug, I don't intend to make this a big issue, I do feel that there is some bias here on the part of the admins in the notes that I could find, arguing 'psuedo-science', but I bothered to look into this guy once he came into my awareness and it is very easy to see that he is not even in the "minor leagues" he has actually made in impact in multiple areas. And you keep berating his "mail-order PhD", yet the guy has his MD and is an American Medical Association (life time member along with 35+ other MEDICAL memberships not to mention his over a dozen books in multiple languages and lectures around the world. Seriously this is just skewed and overly obtuse on your part, to argue points like Columbia as his school and "Physicians Recognition", when the man has been on national TV and Founded the first zen center in the US. Asinine! Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 21:09, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

I see the page has been restored, ok. However, Iconoclast, it was not a smart move to have copied the information directly from a mirrored source. I state this because I had problems in the past with that version (hence why I became involved in this article in the first place due to complaints on our OTRS email system). There was a lot of issues with that text and it wasn't the best move. I know a lot of stuff was taken out in other edits, but I think a complete rewrite is what would be needed for this article to even be up to our standards. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:45, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I just didn't really feel like coming up with all of that information again on this fellow, I may do several things that aren't the best move; hence why after 8 years I have never opted to be an admin but it gets the job done and I don't really have to be as concerned about vindictive easily wounded egos of most of the single-minded deletionist admin brownshirt brigade. I have enough to research everyday in the real world with people who pay. I have deleted the bulk of the article already and those who are concerned can edit and wikify the rest. I simply felt this author should not have remained deleted based on the reasons given. Alls well. Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 04:24, 13 July 2012 (UTC)
I don't blame you at all, but mostly just giving you my two cents. I also agree it should not have been proded, but go through the formal 7 day process where the community decides. I also do not blame you for not wanting to be a sysop; I mostly only use it now when it comes to image work and for OTRS work, I rarely deal with blocking/unblocking users anymore due to issues in the past. Anyways, if you have any questions or concerns about this article, feel free to drop a line here or via email. Good to deal with you. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:42, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

If I had been able to see the talk:archives on this page going back to 2005, I would have probably never messed with it either. What a can of worms over this fellow. Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 08:15, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

That is another thing I was surprised about; there was deleted edits and the deleting admins never spoke to me about it when they did this in 2010. I wish the talk page was still up, but I digress. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 16:33, 13 July 2012 (UTC)

Often its the result of WP:Twinkle encountering an edit conflict at FFD. It doesn't try again, and its common for the error to be overlooked. Monty845 03:20, 15 July 2012 (UTC)

Wrong Category in Wikipedia

Hi Zach: It's me Eric_Soong from nationalanthems.us. Recently I was working on rendering Manchu script into SVG for the infobox of Manchukuo as it could not display properly without the font Mongolian Baiti. I was about to create a category in Wikimedia Commons, but unfortunately I mis-clicked the wrong tab in my browser. I was wondering that if you could kindly help me to delete it if possible. I have also nominated that page for speedy deletion and I'll thank you in advance.

Category:Texts_in_Manchu_script_rendered_in_SVG

PS. Recently I have done the work on the Emblem of North Korea after 1992. : )

I saw your work on the North Korean emblem; wow I didn't know it was you! Anyways, what is the category that needs to be deleted? User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:11, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
The category is gone and I removed it from being used. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:16, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
It's: Category:Texts_in_Manchu_script_rendered_in_SVG
Hehe, thank you! By the way I also did the work on the new version of the PRC emblem.
EDIT: Okay - Thanks a lot! : )
--Ericmetro (talk) 17:21, 23 July 2012 (UTC)
Well sorry but maybe I didn't explained it clearly as I failed to link the category on English Wikipedia. It's not the category in Commons but the one I mis-created on English Wikipedia:
It's this one. Still I'm going to create that category on Commons later when I upload those scripts. : ) -- Ericmetro (talk) 17:28, 23 July 2012 (UTC)

Wanted to reintroduce Stavros Niarchos III

Very much in the New York City social scene: http://www.style.com/trendsshopping/stylenotes/041111_It_Boys/slideshow/?loop=0&iphoto=10&play=false&cnt=11

Recently bought an important modernist home in LA slated for demolition (a big deal in LA as they don't tend to preserve their historic architecture): http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/13/realestate/big-deal-in-beverly-hills-preservation-gains-a-toehold.html

Generally seems to have grown up a bit, surprised there was only his granddad, Stavros Niarchos in Wikipedia when I looked. thanks--Aichikawa (talk) 17:11, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

When I deleted the article back in 2009, it mostly had information about who he dated. I still feel his main stock in life is a socialite, from looking at these links. I don't feel comfortable restoring the article. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:35, 8 August 2012 (UTC)

David R. Hawkins

ZScout, I see that you once restored this article after you yourself deleted it. It was recently stripped of content and sent to AfD and subsequently deleted. I was curious as to what is the proper forum to discuss this author/lecturer as notable beyond this point, as I seem to have overstated the notability position to the point the page is protected. I am not a fan of the author or his works but I do believe notability was shown with reliable independent source, and that people should be made aware of his works for better or for worse. I would at least like to discuss the issue in the proper forum.

Dr. David R. Hawkins: Power vs Force, a great book from this author regarding the understanding of the use of Power, as opposed to "Force" in the today's world. Something many Wikipedia members should read. Some reviews:
  • "...a beautiful gift of writing... you spread, joy, love and compassion with what you write. The fruit being of these three things being 'compassion'." Mother Teresa
  • "...a significant contribution to understanding and dealing with the problems we face today!" Lee Iacocca
  • "I especially appreciate [the] research and presentations on the attractor patterns in business...Sam Walton
  • "Perhaps the most significant and important work I have read in the last ten years..." Dr. Wayne Dyer

If you could point me in the right direction I would much appreciate that. Thanx Iconoclast.Horizon (talk) 00:02, 24 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.

You are not the subject of the report, but you may be able to shed some light on it.--Bbb23 (talk) 21:47, 2 September 2012 (UTC)

WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Hello, you are receiving this message because you are currently a participant of WikiProject Good articles. Since the creation of the WikiProject, over 200 user's have joined to help review good article nominations and contribute to other sections of the WikiProject. Over the years, several of these users have stopped reviewing articles and/or have become inactive with the project but are still listed as participates. In order to improve communications with other participants and get newsletters sent out faster (newsletters will begin to be sent out monthly starting in October) all participants that are no longer active with the WikiProject will be removed from the participants list.

If you are still interested in being a participant for this WikiProject, please sign your user name here and please help review some articles so we can reduce the size of the backlog. If you are no longer interested, you do not need to sign your name anywhere and your name will be removed from the participants list after the deadline. Remember that even if you are not interested at this time, you can always re-add your name to the list whenever you want. The deadline to sign your name on the page above will be November 1, 2012. Thank-you. 13:37, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Update for: WikiProject Good articles (Participant Clean-Up)

Sorry for having to send out a second message but a user has brought to my attention that a point mentioned in the first message should be clarified. If user's don't sign on this page, they will be moved to an "Inactive Participants" list rather then be being removed from the entire WikiProject. Sorry for any confusion.--Dom497 (talk)15:26, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

Solicitation of donations

Zach, I believe the Paypal solicitation on your userpage is inappropriate and should be removed permanently. In looking at its history, I see that it's been removed more than once by other editors and then restored by you. I also found an old discussion about it at WP:EAR (a strange forum to discuss it), including User:Nuclear Warfare's apparent agreement with you that there's nothing wrong with it. I respectfully disagree with you and NW on this issue. Although I have been unable to find any specific policy prohibiting it, nonetheless, I think most admins would agree with me that no editor should be permitted to solicit money on Wikipedia, but particularly not an admin.

Please let me know your thoughts and whether you're willing to remove it. Thanks.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:20, 22 September 2012 (UTC)

It has been discussed before and having it discussed again is going to be useless. Users have used this over the years to help fund bot scripts, developing software for the Wiki and other things. Those are declared fine. I have completed paid bounties on articles and complied with all Wikimedia policies (for example, the last time I got a donation was for an image I drew and it was negotiated on here in open view). No I will not remove it, end of story. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:19, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
Plus, it was only removed twice by other users. Once was an IP who said we always have to work for free (which is not true), another removed it years ago and I pointed to that EAR discussion (I do not remember who brought it up). The other times it was removed was by me and has gone up and down depending on the situation. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:22, 23 September 2012 (UTC)
The only things I found that were frowned upon is to demand the money on article/talk pages and in the content space itself and that was a discussion from 2005, so long before anything that I have done, before any of these bounty/reward boards or anything else. The user page is generally accepted, but different users will have different views (like with the REWARD and BOUNTY boards). Some people do not mind if editors get paid a few bucks from fellow users/donors, some people do not. It is that divide that is going to remain. Either way, I do not plan on removing that link. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:45, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:55, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

Bbb23, I responded at the discussion and I sent you an email regarding my activity for the next 48 hours. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:33, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm curious if anyone donated anything to you as a result of that request. Tijfo098 (talk) 19:05, 23 September 2012 (UTC)

I have. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:57, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
  • Hey, I'm not entirely sure how I feel about the underlying issue here, but I thought this would be as good a time as any to say thanks for the eight years of contributions here, and I hope you try not to take anything said at AN too personally. There are other simultaneous issues arising elsewhere about who gets to make money from Wikipedia and who doesn't, and you're unfortunately not as politically connected as some of the other players. I think there's a lot of misdirected anger floating around right now, and some of it is landing on you. Regardless of what the end result regarding this particular situation is (and I can see a case for both sides), it seems unfair to pick on someone with a small note on their own user page. FWIW, I don't think you're being "tacky". Cheers. --Floquenbeam (talk) 18:23, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
As I wrote earlier, I do not plan on leaving the Project because of this one specific decision. If it was decided to keep it, I will leave it there (with changes and input from the community); if the verdict says it needs to go, I will make it happen and hide other revisions so there is no back-channel way to donate. I also know the community changes over the years, even if the issues do not. Plus I am not too worried about what was said; what most people are saying is while I do things the right way (in the terms of transparency, reporting, documentation, COI avoidance), other users might not and they might see what I am doing as a license. There are some who are against it because of who I am (either position or person wise) and I know I will not change those minds with my words. I know I am not as active as I used to be, since I dealing with the post-degree life is very hard and time is very stretched (or I am on other projects). However, I really do appreciate your message and I do hope to make contributions more often in the future. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 23:23, 24 September 2012 (UTC)

Updating Picture Files

Most of the picture files I uploaded for Oromo section of Wikipedia have been deleted. The last time we talked here, you told me to upload source, copyright, etc. of the pictures instead of the pictures themselves. But I don't know how to do it. When I click on the file links of the pictures, it takes me to file uploading page which expects me to upload a file instead of updating information about the existing file. Can you help me please? Teferi Kebebew (talk) 14:35, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Certainly. The reason why it does that is if you are not an admin, it will take you to the upload page. If you are, then it will show a deleted history. I can take a look at the files and restore what I can, then let you put the source. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 17:08, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

Can I be an administrator for the Oromo section? What is the criteria or what am I expected to fulfill? Teferi Kebebew (talk) 08:26, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
You can ask at http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Meta:Requests_and_proposals. Pretty much, you are going to be asked to deal with vandalism, deleting spam pages and to help build the small wiki. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 01:34, 3 October 2012 (UTC)

Alpha Tau Omega

I think what is there can be salvaged and expanded. Oddly enough the list of brothers and list of chapters are in better shape. The history that was pulled for Copyvio can be rewritten, I think. This includes why Alpha Tau Omega was chosen, which I definitely think belongs in the article (I'd say that for any GLO that has that information as public). BTW, I'd like to find referencable information as to when ATO became open to Jews and/or Negros, but I don't think that information belongs in the article at this length (undue weight), but when it gets ready for FA at the length of Alpha Phi Alpha article. I think Baird's and the Palm may be useful references, though the Palm would be viewed as Primary.Naraht (talk) 17:38, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

I was able to find sources that were non-Palm based, so that was a start. I will see what else needs to be done, but I am not sure how you want the article to be structured. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 18:24, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Well, ideally we can follow the structure of the FA articles, Alpha Phi Alpha, Alpha Kappa Alpha and Kappa Kappa Psi. I think the Palm can be very useful. However, in at least the case of Kappa Sigma, information in the very early editions of the Fraternity magazine include information which isn't really public. (let's face it, our founders never expected the Fraternity magazine to be available to millions of people to access in seconds.)
There are some copies of the Palm and other history online on Google Books for full download, so this could be used for reference. But I will try and think of something over the coming time. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 21:31, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

You may actually upload Los Zetas' logo as property of the Federal government of the United States. [19] That will work for other languages on Wikipedia. Cheers. ComputerJA (talk) 23:06, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Nope. Because it is used in a federal government document doesn't mean it was actually created by the US Government, so that is one aspect. Plus, the logo is non-free in Mexico and the Commons requirements must have it where the media file is free in the US and the source country (Mexico). Sorry it cannot go to the Commons. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 01:27, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Can you please stop reverting the Bell Mobility logo? It is factual, and it does get used internally and externally depending on the venue. Message me more for details. This is directly from a Bmob Cell site. http://i47.tinypic.com/fp09l0.jpg

Closest thing I found was http://support.bell.ca/_web/guides/Mobility/Other/First_Bill_Explainer(en).pdf but style and logo guides I found for Bell mention nothing specific. There was one when the face logo was used, but with the new logo, until I saw that PDF I didn't see it. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 03:53, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
I am going to try and get this PDF logo used and uploaded, but stuck at the point to get the Bell font to read properly on my computer. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:05, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
Finally got it going and uploaded and used now. While it is not what you had in the terms of orientation, I had it matched to what Bell had on PDF documents and managed to get the fonts and colors correct according to the Bell.ca brand guides. Also SVG is preferred over PNG when it comes to logos mostly due to issues of quality. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 04:50, 4 December 2012 (UTC)
This is still not the right logo. Can you please modify the PNG file and upload it? The Mobility section is actually supposed to be underneath the overall logo. User:Zlatko

Happy New Year!

Best wishes for the New Year!
Wishing you and yours a joyous, healthful, and productive 2013!

Please accept a belated thank you for the well wishes upon my retirement as FAC delegate, and apologies for the false alarm of my first—and hopefully last—retirement; the well wishes extended me were most kind, but I decided to return, re-committed, when another blocked sock was revealed as one of the factors aggravating the FA pages this year.

Maintaining standards in featured content requires vigilance, dedication and knowledge of people like you, who are needed; reviews are always welcome at FAC, FAR and TFA requests. Somehow, somehow we never ever seem to do nothin' completely nice and easy, but here's hoping that 2013 will see a peaceful road ahead and a return to the quality and comaraderie that defines the FA process, with the help of many dedicated Wikipedians!

File:Army flag.gif

There has been a question at the help desk about file File:Army flag.gif which you seem to have deleted. It seems to still be used in many articles. I'm not sure what's going on so I can't post a reply at the help desk. RJFJR (talk) 15:10, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

File:Army flag.gif was deleted because it is now on the Commons as File:Flag of the United States Army (1775).gif. It would appear to me that most of the pages calling File:Army flag.gif are doing so through {{Army}} and therefore {{Flagicon}} so I have made an edit request here to edit the US country data template, from which flags are called. Once that is fixed, an editor can go through the "what links here" from Army flag.gif and replace any other uses. Sycamore (talk) 15:26, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Strike that, I should read the full edit summary. But the files were used! (although they might had no license!) Bear with me, I will use images from Commons. ;-) mabdul 01:53, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

I think what happened was when I put the files in that category, they were not used. They were used maybe one or two days before/after I deleted it, so it was that I didn't double-check the images before deleting. But those kind of images can easily be made/found on the Commons with a license. (The images had no source, license, author, or anything really). I was needing some help with U2 Wikiproject: I need to improve its Barnstars. Can you help me on that?? Reply at my talk page. Kind Regards. Miss Bono (zootalk) 14:47, 5 April 2013 (UTC)

Barnstars

I was looking for something more "fresh", something that tells "i am a barnstar form U2 WikiProject", not "i am a barnstar from WP: Lockheed U-2", do you know what I mean??. I want a barnstar with a better quality, cool to the eyes.

See the difference between these two BS:

I get ya; but what I need to do is find some things that are symbolic of U2 before I even start. I also will be away from the computer for a week, so I will not be able to start immediately. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 22:00, 8 April 2013 (UTC)
there is the bag with the heart at the center of it, or the "sad cosmonaut" of the cover of Zooropa Album, also there is the Joshua Tree, the "V" of Vertigo Tour, the cowboy painted by Bono or the atomic bomb sketch. let me know when you are back... Orphaned non-free media (File:Kloof High School Insignia.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Kloof High School Insignia.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 04:10, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

WikiProject Good Articles Recruitment Centre

Hello! Now, some of you might be wondering why there is a Good article icon with a bunch of stars around (to the right). The answer? WikiProject Good articles will be launching a Recruitment Centre very soon! The centre will allow all users to be taught how to review Good article nominations by experts just like you! However, in order for the Recruitment Centre to open in the first place, we need some volunteers:
  • Recruiters: The main task of a recruiter is to teach users that have never reviewed a Good article nomination how to review one. To become a recruiter, all you have to do is meet this criteria. If we don't get at least 5-10 recruiters to start off with, the Recruitment Centre will not open. If interested, make sure you meet the criteria, read the process and add your name to the list of recruiters. (One of the great things about being a recruiter is that there is no set requirement of what must be taught and when. Instead, all the content found in the process section is a guideline of the main points that should be addressed during a recruitment session...you can also take an entire different approach if you wish!) If you think you will not have the time to recruit any users at this time but are still interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still add your name to the list of recruiters but just fill in the "Status" parameter with "Not Available".
  • Co-Director: The current Director for the centre is me (Dom497). Another user that would be willing to help with some of the tasks would be helpful. Tasks include making sure recruiters are doing what they should be (teaching!), making sure all recruitments are archived correctly, updating pages as needed, answering any questions, and distributing the feedback form. If interested, please contact me (Dom497).
  • Nominators, please read this: If you are not interested in becoming a recruiter, you can still help. In some cases a nominator may have an issue with an "inexperienced" editor (the recruitee) reviewing one of their nominations. To minimize the chances of this happening, if you are fine with a recruitee reviewing one of your nominations under the supervision of the recruiter, please add your name to the list at the bottom of this page. By adding your name to this list, chances are that your nomination will be reviewed more quickly as the recruitee will be asked to choose a nomination from the list of nominators that are OK with them reviewing the article.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to seeing this program bring new reviewers to the Good article community and all the positive things it will bring along.

A message will be sent out to all recruiters regarding the date when the Recruitment Centre will open when it is determined. The message will also contain some further details to clarify things that may be a bit confusing.--Dom497 (talk)

GAN December 2013 Backlog Drive

Hello! A GAN Backlog Drive will begin in less than 4 days!

In past Backlog Drives, the goal was to reduce the backlog of Good article nominations. In the upcoming drive, another goal will be added - raising as much money as we can for the Wikimedia Foundation. How will this work? Well, its pretty simple. Any user interested in donating can submit a pledge at the Backlog Drive page (linked above). The pledge should mention the amount of money the user is willing to donate per review. For example, if a user pledges 5 cents per review and 100 nominations are reviewed, the total donation amount is $5.00.

At the time this message was sent out, two users have submitted pledges for a total of 8 cents per review. All pledges, no matter how much money, are greatly appreciated. Also, in no way is this saying you must make a pledge.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or leave a message on the Backlog Drive talk page. And remember, there are less than 4 days before the drive starts!--EdwardsBot (talk) 03:11, 27 November 2013 (UTC)

March 2014 GAN Backlog Drive

It's that time again! Starting on March 1, there will be another GAN Backlog Drive! There will be several changes compared to previous drives:

  • This drive will introduce a new component to it; a point system. In a nutshell, older nominations are worth more points than newer nominations. The top 3 participants who have the points will be awarded the Golden, Silver, or Bronze Wikipedia Puzzle Piece Trophy, respectively.
  • Unlike the December 2013 Backlog Drive, earning an additional barnstar if you reached your goal has been removed.
  • The allowance to have insufficient reviews has been lowered to 2 before being disqualified.
  • An exception to the rule that all reviews must be completed before the deadline has been created.

Also, something that I thought I would share with all of you is that we raised $20.88 (USD) for the WMF in the December 2013 drive. It may not sound like a lot but considering that that was raised just because we reviewed articles, I would say that's pretty good! With that success, pledges can be made for the upcoming drive if you wish.

More info regarding the drive and full descriptions regarding the changes to this drive can be found on the the drive page. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a message on the drive talk page.

I look forward to your participation and hope that because of it, some day the backlog will be gone!

WikiProject Good articles Future GAN Backlog Drive

Hello everyone! Hope you've all been having a great summer!

TheQ Editor recently proposed the idea of having another Backlog Drive in either September/October or November/December of this year. For those of you who have participated in the past two drives you know I was the one who organized them, however, come September, this will be my most important year in school so I will not be able to coordinate this drive (if it happens). TheQ Editor has volunteered to be a coordinator for the drive. If any of you would like to co-coordinator, please notify TheQ Editor on his talk page.

If you would be interested in participating in a Backlog Drive sometime before the end of this year, please notify TheQ Editor. Also, make sure to specify what month(s) work best for you.

At the time this message was sent out, the backlog was at 520 nominations. Since May, the backlog has been steadily increasing and we are currently near an all time high. Even though the backlog will not disappear over one drive, this drive can lead to several others which will (hopefully) lead to the day where there is no longer a backlog.

As always, the more participants, the better, and everyone is encouraged to participate!

GA Cup

Hello everyone! We hope you have all been having a great summer!

As we all know, the recent GAN Backlog Drives have not had any big impact on the backlog. Because of that, me (Dom497), Figureskatingfan, and TheQ Editor have worked on an idea that could possibly finally put a dent into the massive backlog. Now, I will admit, the idea isn't entirely ours as we have took the general idea of the WikiCup and brought it over to WikiProject Good Articles. But anyways, here's what we have in mind:

For all of you that do not know what the WikiCup is, it is an annual competition between several editors to see who can get the most Good Articles, Featured Article's, Did You Know's, etc. Based of this, we propose to you the GA Cup. This competition will only focus on reviewing Good articles.

For more info on the proposal, click here. As a FYI, the proposal page is not what the final product will look like (if you do go ahead with this idea). It will look very similar to WikiCup's page(s).

The discussion for the proposal will take place here. Please let us know if you are interested, have any concerns, things to consider, etc.

WikiProject Good Articles - GA Cup

WikiProject Good articles is holding a new competition, the GA Cup, from October 1, 2014 - March 28, 2015. The Cup will be based on reviewing Good article nominations; for each review, points will be awarded with bonuses for older nominations, longer articles and comprehensive reviews. All participants will start off in one group and the highest scoring participants will go through to the second round. At the moment six rounds are planned, but this may change based on participant numbers.

Some of you may ask: what is the purpose for a competition of this type? Currently, there is a backlog of about 500 unreviewed Good article nominations, almost an all time high. It is our hope that we can decrease the backlog in a fun way, through friendly competition.

Everyone is welcome to join; new and old editors! Sign-ups will be open until October 15, 2014 so sign-up now!

If you have any questions, take a look at the FAQ page and/or contact one of the four judges.

Cheers from NickGibson3900, Dom497, TheQ Editor and Figureskatingfan.

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Notification of pending suspension of administrative permissions due to inactivity

Following a community discussion in June 2011, consensus was reached to provisionally suspend the administrative permissions of users who have been inactive for one year (i.e. administrators who have not made any edits or logged actions in more than one year). As a result of this discussion, your administrative permissions will be removed pending your return if you do not return to activity within the next month. If you wish to have these permissions reinstated should this occur, please post to the Wikipedia:Bureaucrats' noticeboard and the userright will be restored per the re-sysopping process (i.e. as long as the attending bureaucrats are reasonably satisfied that your account has not been compromised, that your inactivity did not have the effect of evading scrutiny of any actions which might have led to sanctions, and that you have not been inactive for a three-year period of time). If you remain inactive for a three-year period of time, including the present year you have been inactive, you will need to request reinstatement at WP:RFA. This removal of access is procedural only, and not intended to reflect negatively upon you in any way. We wish you the best in future endeavors, and thank you for your past administrative efforts. Belarus: villages and stations

Hello! For some time now I've been working with wikidata, adding Latin-script versions of names for towns, villages and train stations in Belarus. The first step was to import romanized names in 2007 version from be/be-old Wikipedias, then I transformed them into current system, used by wikipedia, and now im adding them to Wikidata. Good example is Vialikaje Sialo (Q20466539). You can see English label and Property:P5412. I decided to add the list of my edits to the project, it might be used somewhere else. Wikipedia:WikiProject Belarus/Villages and stations. 23k edits will be ready (probably) by tomorrow. Would be nice if someone else will track and check it, because sometimes it looks weird (especially when its Ь). 2007-version is here: Wikipedia:WikiProject_Belarus/Villages_and_stations/2017, the plan is to add it as aliases to wikidata, but for now, my computer is way to slow. --Andrei (talk) 05:53, 2 January 2019 (UTC)

Just wanted to let you know that I am recreating this article, which you deleted back in 2007 following an OTRS request. WikiProject Belarus inactivity

 Belarus NA‑class
This page is within the scope of WikiProject Belarus, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of Belarus on Wikipedia. If you would like to participate, please visit the project page, where you can join the discussion and see a list of open tasks.
NAThis page does not require a rating on Wikipedia's content assessment scale.

. I activated it as I want to work on it, you seems to be the founder and the main contributor. Why it is inactive?

For example, city Slutsk is marked as Russian wikiproject which is wrong, it is Belarusian city. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Slutsk

Mostly because some of the major contributors either have moved on from Wikipedia (like myself) or have died. It was a very small group. Either way, I do wish you well and I think a fresh perspective can help. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 22:31, 29 August 2019 (UTC)

2019 US Banknote Contest

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Replaceable fair use File:Coat of arms of Canada.svg

Thanks for uploading File:Coat of arms of Canada.svg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

A question

Hello Zscout370, would you consider working on Flag of Serbia getting GA status? I am willing to help with any translation or anything else which you might need, and the article is in a solid shape as it is. Happy holidays. — Sadko (words are wind) 02:00, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

I am not active on here as much as I like, so I am not sure if I will be able to help too much. However, if there is any questions, your best bet is to email me. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 02:57, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Japanese roundel - white border width.

Hi, In History of that file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Roundel_of_Japan.svg You wrote that the "white border is 1/15th" of the whole roundel. As I understand it, when the whole roundel (with white border) has a diameter 15 mm, then the white border width should be 1 mm, right? So that means the red circle should have a diameter 13 mm, right? I've downloaded this SVG file, I've opened it in InkScape and the red circle has 12,750 mm in diameter not 13 mm. 88.156.87.29 (talk) 00:27, 2 February 2024 (UTC)
