All Metra Stations finished edit

Wow, you did articles on all existing Metra stations. Congratualtions. For a while I didn't think anybody was going to do it, which was part of the reason I wrote so many of them. Well, that and the fact that a lot of what I've read about them just blew my mind. ----DanTD (talk) 00:20, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

I found a lot of cool stuff on them. What can I say? I also found I had to give them different names, because so many are identical or similar. Harvey (Metra Electric) sounds too much like Harvard (Metra), so I named it as an ME station, rather than it's given name. I had to create different names for a lot of the Metra Electric stations, even those that shared names with non-ME stations(107th Street (Metra Electric) vs. 107th Street - Beverly Hills (Metra), 87th Street (Metra Electric) vs. Woodruff/87th Street (Metra), etc.). I'd really like to find a way to make the UP-N and MD-N routeboxes go to their specific Lake Forest (Metra) stations instead of to the disambiguation page. I see you also wwant to work on some MBTA station articles. Are you leaning towards commuter rail or rapid trnasit stations? Latley, I've been finding some fascinating info on SEPTA stations myself. At this point, however, almost all SEPTA station articles are written, except for some Media-Sharon Hill Line stations, and the one for SEPTA's Philadelphia International Airport station, which redirects to the article on the airport itself. ----DanTD (talk) 16:04, 5 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Metra fixes not working for SEPTA edit

Hi, I tried to examine the fixes you made when you moved the the two Lake Forest (Metra) stations away from the dab page and onto their specific lines. It doesn't seem to be working for the R1 (SEPTA), which I'm trying to move the western terminus from Philadelphia International Airport to Philadelphia International Airport Terminals (SEPTA station). ----DanTD (talk) 03:26, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Right now, they're only working for 30th Street Station and Melrose Park (SEPTA station). Everything else leads to the airport, rather than the airport station. ----DanTD (talk) 19:54, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
The null edits were working fine until I got to Suburban Station. ----DanTD (talk) 20:04, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually, whatever you did seems to have worked. Now I have to struggle with Market East Station and everything east of Market East except Melrose Park. ----DanTD (talk) 20:11, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply
Well, it was a huge pain in the ass, and I ended up making a few irrelevant edits(some of which I wanted to do, and other I had to settle for), but it worked. Now I hope I can do the same for the two Springfield Road (SEPTA station)s along the two Media-Sharon Hill trolley lines. ----DanTD (talk) 20:38, 27 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Metropolitana di Napoli edit

Hi there. I saw you did a C rating on this article for Wikiproject Trains. It is my intention to add more material for this article, and was wondering if you had any suggestions that WPT would like to see in such an article to improve the rating?? My interest in the topic is more from the perspective of improving articles related to Naples, but I would be happy to try and get it to a standard that WPT wants for train related articles. I am still trying to track down more info re current Rolling Stock etc, so any suggestions, or possible locations for further info would be greatly appreciated. Robert Fleming (talk) 18:09, 2 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Great. Thanks for the feedback. Much of the stuff that you suggest needs polishing is first draft, so I was already thinking of reviewing again once I have more of the sections fleshed out - ie rolling stock etc. I was also aware it would probably need quite a bit more referencing, which I am looking into at the moment. Compared to the coverage this topic had previously though, I think I am moving it in the right direction. If you have any further ideas or comments, it is always appreciated. Wisconsin Highway 57 edit

I read the article with interest, as my grandfather talked about how Interstate 43 was nearly routed one mile away from his place in the 1950s had it been placed in the WIS 57 corridor. Great job on the expansion.

Your information is outdated on the Michigan Street Bridge (redlinked as the Sturgeon Bay Bridge by WP:NRHP). It has been closed down. One day structural problems were found in the old bridge. For a few days, all traffic was banned from it, then all heavy traffic was banned from it (see this image and this report). Police sat at each end of the bridge to enforce a light load limit. It was all over the Green Bay news. A few days after that picture, the third bridge was opened and the Michigan Avenue bridge was closed for repairs. Royalbroil 05:44, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

You're welcome. I'm sure that sources exist for what I've stated. It's neat to see a highway near me on the main page/DYK when I wasn't the one to do it! Royalbroil 21:47, 7 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Quercus alba edit

Hello! I see you recently moved White oak to Quercus alba. Normally I would applaud such an effort as a wholehearty supporter of WP:NC (flora) and if you look at the history of the page you can see I recently made the same move. Upon discussion with User:SilkTork, I agreed that the page should be maintained at White oak because it meets the exceptions (commercially important) noted in the naming convention. It should remain there at least until there's enough material to split the two articles - one on the botanical information and one on the products made from the species. Thoughts? Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 14:33, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

No worries. It's not that it's controversial, more like there was a compromise among the editors who built the convention. And I believe among the Tree of Life wikiprojects, WP:PLANTS is one of the only ones that attempts to maintain most articles at the scientific name (exceptions noted). In fact, the convention was begun in part out of frustration between the controversial capitalization differences: should it be White Oak or white oak? If you have the time, I'd appreciate your thoughts on another discussion we've been having over at Wikipedia talk:Naming conventions (flora)#Monotypic genera regarding the naming convention. I was planning on summarizing and asking for further input as the discussion seemed scattered and would always appreciate another opinion. Cheers, Rkitko (talk) 19:35, 30 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

Assessments edit

Can you explain what more is needed at Ben Rhydding railway station and Hall/Nimbus Station for them to no longer be WP:STUBs? Thanks. Aboutmovies (talk) 01:23, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry but that is not what a stub is. Not just short, but super short:
A stub is an article containing only a few sentences of text which is too short to provide encyclopedic coverage of a subject, but not so short as to provide no useful information. Sizable articles are usually not considered stubs, even if they lack wikification or copy editing. (emphasis added) from Wikipedia:Stub#Basic information
Or from the assessment matrix that is the standard for assessment and which the trains project uses unaltered:
The article is either a very short article or a rough collection of information that will need much work to become a meaningful article. It is usually very short, but can be of any length if the material is irrelevant or incomprehensible.
Further, take a look at the stub example from the matrix, Coffee table book from several years ago, and then compare it to Coffee table book in its current start class state. Compare the two train stations above and see which they better compare to, the stub or the start. I'm not saying these are B class or anything as they are certainly missing things, but they are not stubs. Taking another approach with the Hall/Nimbus, compare the article to the B class criteria:
  1. The article is suitably referenced, with inline citations where necessary. (passes)
  2. The article reasonably covers the topic, and does not contain obvious omissions or inaccuracies. (fails)
  3. The article has a defined structure. (passes)
  4. The article is reasonably well-written. (passes)
  5. The article contains supporting materials where appropriate. (has infobox/navbox, passes)
  6. The article presents its content in an appropriately accessible way. (passes)
So it has 5 of 6 of the B class criteria, which means it is closer to C class than to Stub class. But that's going by the criteria. Aboutmovies (talk) 06:57, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

USGS places edit

Greetings! I see that you have been adding unincorporated towns to templates based on USGS data, which is great. I use USGS data quite a bit myself. My only concern is that some of these places don't actually seem to exist as settlements any more. The USGS tends to retain named populated places in its database for a long time, for obvious reasons -- for one thing, it's hard to define just when a town ceases to exist as a town when it was never incorporated, so I presume they take the safe course and leave things unchanged, and there are so many such towns across the country that they can't be reviewed all that often. But to take one example, in Logan County, Illinois, the USGS lists the community of Evans (Google map), but in practice it's probably not a town any more. It appears to have been on a railroad line that no longer exists, and there isn't much there now. Google Maps and Yahoo Maps don't even show the name, though they both tend to show most of the same names that the USGS lists; but Topoquest does show it. I'm not suggesting a course of action, as it's a tricky subject; I'm simply suggesting that listing everything that the USGS shows for a county may result in former communities being listed along with current ones, though it has the advantage of not requiring any judgment calls. The USGS does sometimes list towns as "historical", but there seems to be a lot of lag on that (again, perhaps understandably). Any thoughts? Omnedon (talk) 02:36, 19 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I can see that you've put a lot of thought into this. I suppose that if there is at least one house left at a settlement, that would be an easy criterion for inclusion; and about the only way to be sure beyond that is to visit the place, which isn't practical in most cases. I definitely agree with the idea of making note of settlements even after they have ceased to exist, and I see that in one county (I forget which) you added a section for former settlements to the navigation template. As for places that are subdivisions -- personally, I wouldn't think they'd qualify as unincorporated settlements since they are within a city's limits, nor are they really "former towns". However, if they had separate identities in the past and were consumed by expanding cities, perhaps they could be described in the cities' articles; I wouldn't see them fitting into the navigation template, but that's just my opinion. Thanks for all the work you've done; this is an area that I spend a lot of time with as well. Omnedon (talk) 20:25, 23 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
