The category should only be added if there is consensus that the article falls within WikiProject United States Public Policy. And even then, if people don't want the category, there's no reason to force the issue. I'd say it's better to probably leave it off of this one.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 23:26, 2 May 2011 (UTC)

Referencing

Hi Smallman12q, Thanks for helping us out with our article. We have updated the greenhouse gas analysis under the article "CEQA" on wiki and was hoping you could give us some input. I also had a question on references. I use the same reference several times throughout my article and it shows up as a separate citation in the reference section. Is this standard? It would be nice if it showed up as one link placed throughout the article. Thanks again Brandon Liddell (talk) 01:11, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

You'll have to use named references. See Wikipedia:Referencing_for_beginners#Same_reference_used_more_than_once. The software does not automatically detect the same reference (long debates have been had about this). I've corrected one of the references to named references in this edit. Also, you should be consistent in placing references either before or after the period. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.Smallman12q (talk) 11:21, 7 May 2011 (UTC)

Red link

As I had indicated on my talk page, I see it as an unencyclopedic Wikipedia self-reference; nobody is going to search for "red link" and want to reach an article either on hyperlink nor on wiki markup. In addition, the title is being used all over the Wikipedia as an example of a red link (and had been protected for that reason for several years). If you disagree with my deletion, you can challenge it at deletion review. - Mike Rosoft (talk) 03:50, 4 June 2011 (UTC)

Ambassador Program: assessment drive

Even though it's been quiet on-wiki, the Wikipedia Ambassador Program has been busy over the last few months getting ready for the next term. We're heading toward over 80 classes in the US, across all disciplines. You'll see courses start popping up here, and this time we want to match one or more Online Ambassadors to each class based on interest or expertise in the subject matter. If you see a class that you're interested, please contact the professor and/or me; the sooner the Ambassadors and professors get in communication, the better things go. Look for more in the coming weeks about next term.

In the meantime, with a little help I've identified all the articles students did significant work on in the last term. Many of the articles have never been assessed, or have ratings that are out of date from before the students improved them. Please help assess them! Pick a class, or just a few articles, and give them a rating (and add a relevant WikiProject banner if there isn't one), and then update the list of articles.

Once we have updated assessments for all these articles, we can get a better idea of how quality varied from course to course, and which approaches to running Wikipedia assignments and managing courses are most effective.

Reasons for deleting article

Hello, Wikid77 here. Sorry for the snippy treatment of that article "I thought he was..." but this is a very busy time for Wikipedians. Many students are preparing to restart classes in mid-August, within 2 weeks. July is usually the worst (lowest) month for the English WP (...you might even be too busy to read this message now...). There have been many prior articles which covered negative remarks, so deletion tends to be quick. The article you had created was well-written, with good sources, on an important topic, but not NPOV-balanced to be a separate page. Perhaps there should be a broader article about people getting fired/suspended for saying 1 wrong word, but usually there cannot be a separate article for each person's particular remarks. Remember, Jimmy the Greek, Whoopie Goldberg, Bill Maher, or Gilbert Gottfried also lost their jobs due to remarks they had made. In the busy-July rush, your new article was viewed as collecting negative remarks into a short, negative article, with little emphasis on "fantastic complements stated" by the same person; hence, it was viewed as POV-slanted toward the insulting remarks, as being a WP:Attack_page.
There are NPOV limits to what most articles can contain, as isolated text. Article topics should be balanced, and avoid slanted titles; so even overly-positive titles can be a problem as well, such as article title "I think Obama is a genius" would be viewed as an unbalanced, promotional or propaganda page. Similarly, article titles should not advocate an opinion, such as title "Israel should deport all Palestinians" or an opposite title, "I think Palestinians should reclaim all lands". Also, individual notability involves a long-term impact, which is difficult to predict, except with major disasters or such. A hurricane (or tropical storm) has individual notability for the potential to sink ships, crash planes, flood towns, flatten buildings and injure/kill many people, as a long-term impact. For that reason, a hurricane goes beyond WP:NOTNEWS and gets a separate article immediately, expecting future reports of sunken ships, etc. However, for remarks made by famous people, it is difficult to predict when major, dedicated reports about those single remarks will continue to be published months into the future. As I read WP:GNG, unless a specific topic has easily predictable future coverage in major reports (or large sections of a book or film, etc.), then it does not qualify for individual notability, and cannot have a separate article, nor a major section of another article. I hope this helps to clarify the situation, and perhaps other people will have more time, later, to discuss these issues. Anyway, I regret that your well-worded, sourced text was deleted, and I hope you continue to find less-contentious areas to edit. Sorry for being so short or confusing, gotta run. -Wikid77 20:25, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Perhaps the article should have been renamed to be less offensive (or more reflective)...though a Google search for the quote would still return him as the main result. I generally edit in less-contentious areas (I've created over a hundred articles). I created the article too preemptively...perhaps as with Debrahlee Lorenzana. Anyhow, the incident has received renewed attention as Halperin is to be reinstated tomorrow...though I'm not sure its sufficient continual coverage that it would succeed at DRV (will have to wait for it in the history books). I'd like to apologize for creating extra work and applaud your effort in attempting to resolve the matter...(however futile given the new news reports). I did not create the article as an attack page, merely to record the incident in its entirety without giving it undue weight in his article...though I see why its viewed as attack page. I appreciate the response, and the fact that my contribution is regarded as "your well-worded, sourced text was deleted" by a veteran editor=D. Smallman12q (talk) 01:12, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

Online Ambassadors: Time to join pods

Hello! If you're planning to be an active Online Ambassador for the upcoming academic term, now is the time to join one or more pods. (A pod consists of the instructor, the Campus Ambassadors, and the Online Ambassadors for single class.) The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) explains the expectations for being part of a pod as an Online Ambassador. (The MOU for pods in Canada is essentially the same.) In short, the role of Online Ambassadors this term consists of:

  • Working closely with the instructor and Campus Ambassadors, providing advice and perspective as an experienced Wikipedian
  • Helping students who ask for it (or helping them to find the help they need)
  • Watching out for the class as a whole
  • Helping students to get community feedback on their work

This replaces the 1-on-1 mentoring role for Online Ambassadors that we had in previous terms; rather than being responsible for individual students (some of whom don't want or help or are unresponsive), Online Ambassadors will be there to help whichever students in their class(es) ask for help.

You can browse the upcoming courses here: United States; Canada. More are being added as new pods become active and create their course pages.

Once you've found a class that you want to work with—especially if you some interest or expertise in the topic area—you should sign the MOU listing for that class and get in touch with the instructor. We're hoping to have at least two Online Ambassadors per pod, and more for the larger classes.

If you're up for supporting any kind of class and would like me to assign you to a pod in need of more Online Ambassadors, just let me know.

PS: There are still a lot of student articles from the last term that haven't been rated. Please rate a few and update the list!

Thanks! Please add yourself to Greta Munger's pod by signing the MOU and editing the pod section of the course page. And thanks for the heads-up about the contact info on that other course page; I'll contact that professor.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 13:47, 22 August 2011 (UTC)

It's a screenshot I took from the beginning of one of the episodes. So it comes from "the show." How should I attribute it?Smallman12q (talk) 20:25, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
It may seem odd, but we just need to be able to give credit to actual source of the image being used, including credit to yourself. Without that others can't be sure that possibly another person was responsible for image other than the show (ie. third person website or yourself). The source is for who took or hosts the particular image being used, not necessarily where the image first appeared. Thank you for the clarification and I have updated the FUR and removed the tags. Simply, own work is sufficient in these cases (I put your name in as not to claim credit for myself from the edit). Thanks again. Kindly Calmer Waters 21:07, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

editors from US govt agencies

I'm collecting examples of US federal agency policies that allow/enable their staff to edit Wikipedia at work. My agency may move a bit forward on this. They want to see examples of good practice and so I'm collecting them. NIH and EPA have explicit public policies which are pretty decent (available at [9] and [10]). Do you know of other examples? I was glad to see your proposal about NASA. I'm happy to share anything I find .... and would probably benefit from a conversation or e-conversation (perhaps on a federal site). -- Econterms (talk) 22:32, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

There are a number of gov sites with social media initiatives...but most are for awareness (facebook, twitter, and the like) rather than content. Recently, the National Archives has gotten involved and actually have a Wikipedian in residence. It's nice to see that NIH is joining. NOAA is integrating some data from the wiki. The DOE is looking to make use of wikipedia. There are a number of other gov wikis not tied to wikipedia such as those on your userpage such as DodTechipedia, ACQuipedia, NASA has a wiki on its intranet, etc. Unfortunately, there's no government entities that have contributed heavily to articles on wikipedia (though the National Archives are donating a lot of images!). I'm amused at the belated response to the NASA proposal...but still interested to see it's coming along (however slow...). There also is an officially supported United States Public Policy initiative for colleges. You are welcome to inquire User:Ragesoss for more info. If you have any further questions, you're welcome to ask here, email me, or let me know when you'd like to meet on IRC. It's nice to see someone's interested!Smallman12q (talk) 01:35, 16 September 2011 (UTC)

equivalent idioms

Hi there. Just happened to find these 2 categories, but their existence is rather counter-intuitive. And from history you are the creator of them. What are Category:Chinese idioms with english equivalent and Category:English idioms with chinese equivalent supposed to contain? "易如反掌" and "as easy as pie" share no similarity besides both meaning "very easy", the paper quoted actually says thay have different origins. Therefore, it seems that I can pair up another Chinese idioms meaning "very easy" with as easy as pie. Could you name another example that fits into these categories? Cheers.--Curiouscattie (talk) 09:49, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

You're right. I wasn't sure how to organize them at the time... The idioms aren't really categorized well here. They should be organized by language and connotation (two separate categories). Also, we should make a category for literal translations which are more rare. If you have any other thoughts, feel free to let me know.Smallman12q (talk) 22:53, 19 September 2011 (UTC)

Update on courses and ambassador needs

Hello, Ambassadors!

I wanted to give you one last update on where we are this term, before my role as Online Facilitator wraps up at the end of this week. Already, there are over 800 students in U.S. classes who have signed up on course pages this term. About 40 classes are active, and we're expecting that many more again once all the classes are up and running.

On a personal note, it's been a huge honor to work with so many great Wikipedians over the last 15 months. Thanks so much to everyone who jumped in and decided to give the ambassador concept a try, and double thanks those of you who were involved early on. Your ideas and insights and enthusiasm have been the foundation of the program, and they will be the keys the future of the program.

Courses looking for Online Ambassadors

Still waiting to get involved with a class this term, or ready to take on more? We have seven classes that are already active and need OA support, and eleven more that have course pages started but don't have active students yet. Please consider joining one or more of these pods!

Active courses that really need Online Ambassadors:

Hello from Davidson College Cognitive Psychology 276

Hi- I am working on a citation for a book that is a compilation of articles and I was wondering how to cite the editors in the Wikipedia format? Thanks!Blford (talk) 01:52, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

@Blford, such a compilation is known as an anthology. Please see my response below to Rebeccaworrell and Jacqueline Morges, who had a similar question. Please see an example [11]. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.Smallman12q (talk) 23:21, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Hi- Thank you for getting back to me. I am still confused as to how I cite an individual article in the anthology?Blford (talk) 01:24, 21 October 2011 (UTC)- Hi! We just figured it out. Thanks!Blford (talk) 03:31, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

Navon figure

Hi, I am working on the "Navon Figure" page. I am planning on turning it into a page on "Global Precedence" which would have a section concerning Navon Figures. Would I have to create an entirely new page or can I change the Navon Figure page into a page called "Global Precedence"? Thanks! Linnea Ng (talk) 03:51, 17 October 2011 (UTC)

I'm not really sure what you mean by "global precedence"...but if you believe that the topic is broader than Navon Figures, then you should create a new article. If you have any doubts, you can always change it later.Smallman12q (talk) 19:45, 17 October 2011 (UTC)
User:Catherine_Hare/Misinformation_Effect

Hi! I have a question about uploading an image... I got the image off of another Wikipedia page and edited it in "Paint." Am I allowed to upload this onto my article page? Thanks! Catherine Hare (talk) 17:30, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

If the image has a free license (if it's not a non-free image)...then yes. Be sure to indicate the source of the image as the original wikipedia image. This is known as a derivative work.Smallman12q (talk) 00:14, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
User:Rebeccaworrell/MusicPsychology

Hi there! Jacqueline Morges and I have a question about citing for the Music and Emotion page we are working on. WE have a number of sources that come from an anthology, but are not sure how to properly cite them as Wikipedia does not have a template for them. For the time being, we are just making personal notes with the chapter names. What is the proper way to cite something like that? Thanks! Rebeccaworrell (talk) 17:08, 15 October 2011 (UTC)

Anthologies are a bit tricky to cite. I've shown a suggested way to cite them in your sandbox. Ideally, you list the anthology, and the work within the anthology. If the source is the work, you cite the work, if the source is commentary by the anthology, you cite the anthology. You can use relevant templates. If you need more help let me know.Smallman12q (talk) 00:14, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Where should we be explaining and adding descriptions of our changes to the articles? Thanks!

Seth Kindig (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 21:51, 20 October 2011 (UTC).

You can add a general explanation of the changes to the discussion page(if your instructor requires it). Other than that, you should be leaving small comments when editing of the changes.Smallman12q (talk) 23:21, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Culture in music cognition

Hello! I have been working on the Culture in music cognition. An editor recently placed a wikify tag on the article, so I removed a lot of links and repaired some; linking is not the same here compared to wikiHow. :) Is it at the point where I can now remove the tag? Thanks! —Waterlily16 (talk) 02:38, 28 October 2011 (UTC)

You can remove the tag...however the article still needs cleanup. Some words still need to be linked like cognitive schemata to schema (psychology)...or you can create a redirect. The lead section needs some work, and you shouldn't be writing "Balkwill, Thompson, and Matsunaga (2004)" in the article...instead write, "A study at X university found...". (They are already sourced in the reference). If you want an earlier peer-review, let me know.Smallman12q (talk) 21:53, 28 October 2011 (UTC)
Thanks! Good to know. I will work on formatting the references like that soon. Thank you :) —Waterlily16 (talk) 00:42, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Information Architecture

Hi Smallman12q,

This is SilvrWings, a graduate student at UofT's iSchool. I made a few contributions to an article ( Information Architecture ) but before I submit it for my assignment (tomorrow) I was hoping you could give it a quick look-through. I'm looking for any feedback regarding immediate eye-catching errors in article formatting (which I would like to improve but I just don't know where to begin), as well as the appropriateness of my content contribution (the "debate" section).

Thank you for your help! And for being a Wikipedia ambassador. I chose you because we both have a cognitive psychology background (I couldn't find anyone else with whom I had anything in common).

Best, SilvrWings (talk) 20:37, 31 October 2011 (UTC)

Hello SilvrWings, I'm not sure what kind of feedback you're soliciting. You're contribution looks okay, but should be more clear. The article needs a lot work...and it's fairly complex and abstract given that its an application of ontology. I'm not familiar with your course, or the its requirements. Do you plan to expand the article significantly, if so I can offer pointers/review?Smallman12q (talk) 23:59, 1 November 2011 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I can't format it like the other image as arrows are unsupported, and the table look poor. I've made the image a thumb (thumbnail meaning its smaller), but it looks unwieldy as there isn't enough text to fill the section.Smallman12q (talk) 02:38, 18 November 2011 (UTC)

verifiable source help

Hey there, I saw one of your posts on the Invader Zim talkpage and was curious about getting Operation Head Pigeons on the article while meeting wikipedia's standards. So far for citable matters: we have a Tweet from Nickelodeon saying "Hey Zimfans, take a break from operation head pigeons and watch the invader zim marathon" which, in my ten years of fandom, is a huge deal for a revival campaign for Zim to be publically acknowledged by Nick. We also are mentioned as having a panel at Invadercon 2010 on their official website. I've asked OHP's founder to see if Nick will throw a bone and acknowledge we got "Operation: Doom" released but until then I'd love for some assistance.Gingershepherd (talk) 05:12, 22 November 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gingershepherd (talkcontribs)

It's a start as it's an official tweet, but it'd be nice to have something more tangible such as a press release or some 3rd party news site mentioning the shows return.Smallman12q (talk) 01:43, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Fantastic, I'll see if our founder can arrange such. Now, Invadercon is something we find worthy of being in the article as well. There's a link on the invader zim discussion page I posted about Nick execs being "overwhelmed" at Invadercon. verifiable source? it was linked on invadercon.com but that doesn't feel enough to me.Gingershepherd (talk) 02:45, 23 November 2011 (UTC)

Do you do campus ambassador stuff? I do in Seattle. Thanks for doing good work. Blue Rasberry (talk) 19:38, 1 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! I am somewhat familiar with the topic. The article could be expanded to include economic information (revenue/profit of biobanks), in technology (automation in storage/data collection such as in assays, usage in bioinformatics), and with some statistics (growth of size in biobanks, number of biobanks, distribution, specialization, etc). I created a stub for virtual biobanks which are essentially databases, though some offer limited automated/semi-automated remote testing. I don't do campus ambassador stuff, though I am an online ambassador=P.Smallman12q (talk) 01:48, 2 February 2012 (UTC)

industrial psych teams have been formed!

Hi- FYI, I put my students into their teams as shown at the industrial psych course page. The two articles with only one student are graduate students, and thus they are required to revise an entire article. All teams have been instructed to submit a report to me by class next Tuesday, where they detail their initial plans (next 2 weeks). Specifically, Once I receive these I will also have the students share this information with you and the other course ambassador. What do you think would be the best way to do that? They won't be making any actual wikipedia page edits for some time - they are tasked for now to do research on the article topic and evaluate the existing article content. Thanks! Wikipedia:Creating a bot

Hi Smallman12q! Thanks for adding the VBScript section to Wikipedia:Creating a bot and even providing a sample script! Documentation of that option was sorely lacking.   Cheers! — madman 14:35, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

=D. VBScript isn't as touted by M$ft as it once was (neither is COM), but for simple automations of IE, its among the easiest ways to go. Also, it requires no framework download (or .dlls) for most Windows installations. I was surprised to see it wasn't listed given how popular it once was. Hopefully it'll help someone out. Online Ambassador Request

Hi Smallman12q - we are indeed still looking for an Online Ambassador for the Film Theory in the Age of New Media. If you can help out, I'll add you to the course page. I should mention that the students have an assignment coming up that has them asking for feedback on article selection (Week 4). It's a graduate class of five students, so not too overwhelming :) Ycl4 (talk) 18:35, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:FileServe screenshot.png. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. mabdul 01:12, 26 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi. When you recently edited Windows Server 8, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages TechNet and Technet (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your HighBeam account is ready!

Good news! You now have access to 80 million articles in 6500 publications through HighBeam Research. Here's what you need to know:

  • Your account activation code has been emailed to your Wikipedia email address.
    • Only 407 of 444 codes were successfully delivered; most failed because email was simply not set up (You can set it in Special:Preferences).
    • If you did not receive a code but were on the approved list, add your name to this section and we'll try again.
  • The 1-year, free period begins when you enter the code.
  • To activate your account: 1) Go to http://www.highbeam.com/prof1; 2) You’ll see the first page of a two-page registration. 3) Put in an email address and set up a password. (Use a different email address if you signed up for a free trial previously); 4) Click “Continue” to reach the second page of registration; 5) Input your basic information; 6) Input the activation code; 7) Click “Finish”. Note that the activation codes are one-time use only and are case-sensitive.
  • If you need assistance, email "help at highbeam dot com", and include "HighBeam/Wikipedia" in the subject line. Or go to WP:HighBeam/Support, or ask User:Ocaasi. Please, per HighBeam's request, do not call the toll-free number for assistance with registration.
  • A quick reminder about using the account: 1) try it out; 2) provide original citation information, in addition to linking to a HighBeam article; 3) avoid bare links to non-free HighBeam pages; 4) note "(subscription required)" in the citation, where appropriate
  • HighBeam would love to hear feedback at WP:HighBeam/Experiences
  • Show off your HighBeam access by placing on your userpage
  • When the 1-year period is up, check applications page to see if renewal is possible. We hope it will be.

Thanks for helping make Wikipedia better. Enjoy your research! Cheers, Ocaasi t | c 21:02, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Dimensional models of personality disorders - criticisms

Hi Smallman, I've been looking up some criticisms of dimensional models of personality disorders (the approach as a whole, not any specific model), and I was just wondering how I should go about structuring my article. You said that each section should probably have its own criticism sub-section, so where in the article should I put criticism of the whole approach? I would assume I should do it at the end, but I feel like the "contents" section would then look kind of weird:

4 DSM-V

4.1 Criticism

5 Criticism

Is that sort of thing (aesthetic appeal) even something I should take into consideration, or should I just ignore it possibly looking awkward/redundant? Thanks! Allexe11 (talk) 02:32, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

You're right it does look a little weird, but that's fine. If the criticism is short, you may remove the section title, and simply include at the end of the previous section (as in DSM-V). If the criticism is substantial, it should get its own section. If you have criticism about the approach in general, you can make a section at the end for it. You should also add some content for history, and how models are developed.Smallman12q (talk) 12:02, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

Ambassador program - Mechanical Aptitude

Hiyas there Smallman12q,

Yesterday i came across the article Mechanical Aptitude, which is currently being worked on as part of the Industrial Psychology course for which you are listed as one of the ambassadors. The article needed a histmerge (which is now fixed), but afterwards i noticed that the " Wiesen Test of Mechanical Aptitude" section is almost entirely a literal word-for-word copy of the source. I didn't have the time to do a complete check, but a few Google searches on the rest of the content makes me suspect it is mostly minor rewording from other sources.

I'm afraid i lack sufficient editing time lately, so if i were to action this with a comment to the users or similar i'd be very likely to miss the response for some time. Any chance you could have a look? Thanks in advance! Excirial (Contact me,Contribs) 12:48, 18 April 2012 (UTC)

Adding images to entries

Hi Smallman12q,

I was wondering what the Wikipedia rules are for citing an image I did not create? I wanted to add a cartoon that I found online to my page (Door-in-the-face technique) but I'm not sure whether that is allowed/how to do it. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Dr. Munger's Class - Question

Hi, I'm in Dr. Munger's psychology class, editing the Insight wiki page. I have a question about pictures in Wikipedia.. Are we allowed to use pictures from other sources, as long as they are cited? It's a very good draft. Well-sourced, properly divided sections, and well-written. It needs some more blue wikilinks, but overall looks good. You should also add a history section. Also, when referencing books, you need to provide page numbers. I'll edit it this weekend.Smallman12q (talk) 11:57, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

Reviews

Hey Smallman12q, I was wondering if you could take a look at my "rough draft" for my wiki article entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Moonpe11/sandbox). It needs a lot of work, but I think the frame of it is pretty solid. Just let me know. And thanks again for helping us out so much with our class project (I know it must be time consuming to read over and edit all this stuff)! Moonpe11 (talk) 14:18, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a bit far down the page, underneath the heading "Personality traits and life outcomes." Moonpe11 (talk) 14:19, 26 March 2012 (UTC)
It's an excellent start. Well-sourced, wikilinked, and coherent. Wikipedia articles aren't essays, so you should rework the "in addition" and "lastly". Are you going to expand the article into sections?Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)
Okay, awesome! Thanks for the tips. Haha, I'm writing like that ("in addition") is out of habit I guess. And I probably will break it up into sections eventually, once I do a little more research on the topic. I tried to set it up so I can break up into sections fairly easily if I need to. Again, thanks for the input! Moonpe11 (talk) 18:13, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi! I asked you to tell me what you thought a few weeks ago about my potential topics and have chosen the personality distribution topic. I have written a tentative summary in my sandbox. can you please look at it when you get a chance and tell me what you think? Msbeaulieu (talk) 18:52, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a good start. You should add more wikilinks and references. Also, you should break it into paragraphs/sections so I can provide a better review.Smallman12q (talk) 00:40, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Hello! I have also written a summary/rough draft of my article, and was wondering if you could take a look at it to make sure it doesn't have any glaring errors? The article is in my sandbox, under "Dimensional approach to personality disorders". Thanks! Allexe11 (talk) 21:38, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a good start. It needs more wikilinking (more of the blue links in the article). The first paragraph needs references. This sentence: "Following from these claims, it is suggested that diagnosis and characterization of personality disorders should not be based on a "checklist" of symptoms, but instead should be based on the degree to which a person shows a particular personality characteristic." is in the wrong tone. Who suggests? Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi Smallman12q, could you also please take a look at my article's rough draft? Mine is also located in my sandbox, under the Person-Situation Debate header. Any tips/advice greatly welcomed! Thank you Linp11 (talk) 18:53, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a good start. It needs more wikilinking. Some of the article such as "Mischel's book raised important questions about trait concepts and measures in psychological research. Hi, I too have written a summary draft of my article. Would you mind taking a look at mine as well? It's in my sandbox as is the only thing in there. Armsbf11 (talk) 22:03, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a good start. You need to add wikilinks. It needs a little copyediting, but otherwise is fine.Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I've also written a small rough draft for my article. Mine is on how personality changes through a life span. Any feedback you could give would be helpful. It's in my sandbox. I'm having a problem with my citations, though. I have cited the same article in 2 different places. I thought it would add the same footnote as the previous time I cited it. Is that misguided? Right now, the same citation shows up twice on my references list. Is it possible to get rid of that? Desasu11 (talk) 23:51, 27 March 2012 (UTC)

I've corrected the citation. You have to name the reference. See the difference. The article is not structured properly. The first sentence "When talking about consistency of personality and whether or not it changes in the lifetime there are four different types of consistency:" should instead read somewhat as follows: "The consistency of personality refers to the the amount of change that someone's personality undergoes over their lifetime. In personality psychology there are four types of consistencies: "intra-individual differences", "Ipsative", "Mean-level", "Rank-order"."Smallman12q (talk) 00:16, 28 March 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I too have written a brief summary for my article in my sandbox about how people determine others' personalities. I appreciate any feedback you have to offer. Thank you so much! Whitmb11 (talk) 18:56, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

It's a good start. You should not use words like "generally", "typically"...see Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Words to watch. You need to add some wiki links (blue links). See my response to Desau11 above for how to properly reuse the same reference. You can generate automatic citations from a DOI at http://reftag.appspot.com/doiweb.py .Otherwise, it looks like a good start.Smallman12q (talk) 23:48, 29 March 2012 (UTC)

Smallman12q, I have a couple of questions. First of all, is it standard for psychology pages on Wikipedia to abide by the medical referencing standards? I can't find any page that links medical referencing to psychology articles, and I notice that most other psychology articles do not abide by those guidelines. However, personality judgment has been tagged as needing to implement medical referencing, amongst other things. Also, I was wondering what the policy was for removing articles from DYK nomination and closing the nomination. Discussion on personality judgment has become stagnant, and I was wondering if it would be acceptable for me to just close the nomination? I don't want to do that if it is against guidelines. Thank you so much for your help! Whitmb11 (talk) 21:21, 19 April 2012 (UTC)

The policy is Wikipedia:Identifying reliable sources (medicine). Personality judgement isn't really a medical article per se. The concern is that you're using an old article from 1995, and before, but the way its used appears fine. You can withdraw a DYK by simply add a comment, that "DYK nomination withdrawn." If you have any other questions let me know.Smallman12q (talk) 22:51, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for your help! Personality judgment has also been tagged with COI due to my being involved in a personality course- will this be removed after the discussion on the Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents page has been completed? If it is decided that the tag was misused? Thanks! Whitmb11 (talk) 04:02, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
The tag was misused, and has been removed. Cheers.Smallman12q (talk) 11:41, 20 April 2012 (UTC)

AFD

Hi Smallman - there is a particular user who has reviewed many of the DYKs for our articles. Most people have not addressed the concerns yet, but I assume everyone will be doing so within the following week. I tried to respond to the concerns by editing my article, and after doing so asked if they could let me know if there were any additional issues that should be addressed. The result was that my article is now being nominated for deletion. This user has also posted on our class page criticizing us for our DYK nominations and not responding to feedback fast enough. I understand the argument that our articles may not have really been ready for DYK; however, I am wondering if this user is justified in their criticisms of our articles, the timeliness of our responses, and the suggested deletion of my page after I tried to make the appropriate changes. It seems to me this person is being unusually harsh on us and is violating the etiquette rule of "don't bite the newbies". Since we are still learning about contributing to Wikipedia, I was just wondering if this person is correct in their criticisms and we are going about things wrong, and if this is normal for interactions between contributors (especially new contributors) and reviewers. Thanks for your help. Allexe11 (talk) 18:50, 15 April 2012 (UTC)

Also, regarding my article's nomination for deletion, is there any recourse I can take? Am I allowed to argue for why my article should be kept? I thought I had addressed the issues brought up in my DYK nomination (which were again brought up in the deletion nomination), but apparently either I didn't do it correctly, or I didn't do it well enough. Do you think my article is eligible to try to be rescued? Is there anything further I can do to prevent it from being deleted? Thanks again for your help. Allexe11 (talk) 19:47, 15 April 2012 (UTC)
It's a bit unfortunate the article is being dragged to AFD(articles for deletion) needlessly. You are welcome to comment at the AFD, and its unlikely the article will be deleted. The person is somewhat rude in the way they've dragged this to AFD on notability grounds...though AFD is a normal process. You can see other current AFD discussions at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion#Current_discussions. Some people on the wiki are a little less newbie friendly than others...it creates drama...but that's how life goes. I'll go through the DYK nominations this week myself and see what should be done. Don't worry too much about the AFD, it's part of the wiki experience (though it's generally for more experienced users)...the article topic is notable, so the article most likely won't be deleted. It's also possible that there is a misunderstanding as to what the topic reflects...a more accurate title would be Dimensional models of personality disorders Smallman12q (talk) 00:29, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks so much for your help! I will do my best to explain myself at the AFD page, as well as to edit the article to better fit the standards. I plan to ask this at the AFD page, but do you have any suggestions on how I could improve notability, make the tone more encyclopedic, etc? Also, I do agree that the article title should be changed - is it ok to do this while the article is still under review, or should I wait until the review process is finished? Again, thanks so much for all your advice and help! Allexe11 (talk) 02:12, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Really appreciate your attention to this matter, Smallman12q. I'm hoping that my students come back in the future for more Wikipedia editing. William Fleeson (talk) 02:26, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I've moved the article to Dimensional models of personality disorders. You are welcome to improve the article while its being reviewed. A number of AFD nominations are withdrawn following improvements. WP:BEBOLD. You should add a history section, and a comparison section. You should ask your professor what else should be covered...I'll review the article more thoroughly later this week. Some AFDs can become very lengthy, such as Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of fictional supercouples though ultimately the article is kept. There will be other wikipedians who will comment. AFDs are contentious... Happy to help out and I also hope that the students will gain the know-how on how to contribute.Smallman12q (talk) 02:32, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
Thank you again for you help on this, I really appreciate it. I'll work on expanding the article more throughout the week, and hopefully that will help with the notability issues. Allexe11 (talk) 04:30, 16 April 2012 (UTC)
I've reworked the intro (if I misunderstand the topic, let me know). I've also added some sections which you should 'fill in' with the appropriate info. You need to add more about the dimensional approach itself, and how it's being handled in DSM-V. There is a lot of literature on this topic...so don't worry about the AFD. Hope this helps.Smallman12q (talk)
Hi, I have another question, regarding my DYK nomination in relation to the AFD. Should I still respond to the issues brought up in my DYK review? Since the same person reviewed my DYK and also nominated the article for deletion, I'm assuming that responding at the DYK when I've made the appropriate changes won't really do any good. Is there any point in doing so, or should I just focus on the issues brought up in AFD? Thanks again. Allexe11 (talk) 04:13, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

The points brought up in the DYK review are still valid. The lead still does not summarize the article. Also there should be more discussion on the topic of dimensional models as a whole, and not just the individual models. While the article is at AFD, it is on hold at DYK.Smallman12q (talk) 10:30, 17 April 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the update, much appreciated. William Fleeson (talk) 22:07, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Editing

Hey Smallman, I moved my page to the main space, but it's unsearchable and it has this error at the top, "This sandbox is in the article namespace. Either move this page into your userspace, or remove the User sandbox template." I went in and deleted the user:sandbox thing that was at the top but the error is still there. Any ideas? Moonpe11 (talk) 11:34, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

Scratch that, I figured it out. Moonpe11 (talk) 15:47, 6 April 2012 (UTC)
I've left comments at Talk:Personality_and_life_outcomes.Smallman12q (talk) 01:23, 7 April 2012 (UTC)

Hey Smallman. I was just doing some copyediting and getting ready to move my page out of my sandbox when I noticed that a similar article had recently been posted: Facet_(psychology). What should I do? The content and structure are very similar. What's the protocol here? Can I put up a page that's similar? Should I try to merge my content with the existing content? Help. Armsbf11 (talk) 21:54, 6 April 2012 (UTC)

You normally merge the content. Interestingly, it seems that the main editor of the article, User:Matthew.murdoch, is part of Wikipedia:Canada Education Program/Courses/Present/Contemporary Research in Personality (John Zelenski)/Articles and is editing the topic for their class project=P. You normally merge the content, but in this case, you may need to ask your professor what they want you to do. Perhaps you can collaborate with the User:Matthew.murdoch. I'll ask other ambassadors what should be done.Smallman12q (talk) 01:23, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
I noticed that there is another course, Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Research in Personality (MaryBeth McGavran), that might also be putting up articles right about now. I can't find on the other professors' pages where the students list their articles -- identifying overlap at this point would be a good start. By the way, John Zelenski is a friend of mine, so this is a fun coincidence. I'm awaiting the results of your investigations with other ambassadors.William Fleeson (talk) 18:48, 7 April 2012 (UTC)
I've spoken with a few ambassadors and the suggestion has been, where possible the students should collaborate....thats the point of a wiki...to enable collaboration. They can merge their contributions. The students can ask one another on their user talk pages (or in real life/skype/IM/etc if they desire). I've looked at Wikipedia:United States Education Program/Courses/Research in Personality (MaryBeth McGavran)/Articles and the articles aren't listed yet...though the syllabus says they're due 4/9. I've asked the course's professor, User:Psy430uk, when the articles are to be listed. If the student has not yet started the topic, they should select a different one, if that's what the professor prefers. A more dedicated interface is under development at wmflabs and should be ready by next semester, which should help avoid such editing conflicts. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask.Smallman12q (talk) 00:19, 8 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Smallman, I moved my page on Relationship Contingent Self-Esteem to the main space and am working on a "first final draft." I was wondering if you could take a look at it Relationship Contingent Self-Esteem and let me know if there are changes I should make. Even a cursory look and comment would be helpful. Thank you! Velvsop (talk) 23:41, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

It's a pretty good draft. You need to add wikilinks (it needs to link to other articles). You should also update the references to use reference names so that the same reference is not listed multiple times (See User:Smallman12q/Reference example). A section header such as "Approval sex motives in women" without another one for males is viewed as biased/undue weight. There's a lot of use of "women", but not "men"=P. The healthy alternative portion that defines the approach is not sourced. You can use the same source multiple times...referenced material is much better than non-referenced material. Some of the grammar should be cleaned up...but that's usually done at the end.Smallman12q (talk) 21:23, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

My page for class

Hi!

I just finished my first ever Wikipedia page for class, and I was hoping you might give me some feedback.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postmodernist_film

Thanks so much!

-Zachary Allard — Preceding unsigned comment added by Zac.allard (talkcontribs) 21:02, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

It looks good for a first article. I've fixed the references...in the future, use citation templates, and reference names. Some of the style is essay-like such as "Lastly but, by no means comprehensively,"...this should be fixed. It should have a criticism section or some explicit criticism to be neutral. If you need more feedback, let me know.Smallman12q (talk) 23:53, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

References/Bibliography

Hi Smallman12q!

Could you comment on the structure of References/Bibliographies used in this student's working article? Would it be better to have just a list of References with multiple citations for each rather than page numbers that refer to the Bibliography? Ycl4 (talk) 21:22, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Page numbers are the proper way to do it (so they're doing it correctly now). (For example, see featured article Edmund Evans which uses page numbers.) What they should do though, is use reference names so that the same reference won't appear 10 times. See User:Smallman12q/Reference example and WP:NAMEDREFS for how to use named references. If you have any questions feel free to ask.Smallman12q (talk) 23:54, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Hi Smallman12q! My name is Ani and I am a student at Georgetown. I just finished my first ever wikipedia article on travelogues for my film theory class. Since I am so new to Wikipedia, could you take a look at it and give me some feed back? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Travelogue_(films)#Modern_Day Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Okkasian13 (talkcontribs) 20:03, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

It's a good start. You should use Wikipedia style referencing. See User:Smallman12q/Reference example and WP:INCITE for how to use references. You should also add a few more links such as for lantern slides and a few more notable/successful travelogues. Some assertions need references such as "Travelogues have been a popular source of fundraising for local, non-profit community-service organizations, such as Kiwanis, Lions clubs and Rotary clubs, among others, with many such clubs hosting travelogue series for decades." If you have any questions feel free to ask. Smallman12q (talk) 22:56, 7 May 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Google Data Liberation Front

The article Google Data Liberation Front has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable. No significant third party coverage.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. I owe you an explanation

Hi there. I'm sorry about the flood of deletion notices. I'm in a transfer to Commons binge right now, and I hit upon your uploads. When I saw a few of your uploads had everything filled in correctly at the information template (which is rare, sadly) I tend to just do that person's entire upload stream at once. Don't want to make it look like I'm picking on you, I'm actually quite thankful that you're making it easy for me.

In the future though, if you could upload free images to Commons, I'd be appreciated. There are 300,000 files needing transfer, adding more to the list just makes it a longer process to migrate things. Sven Manguard Wha? 02:37, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (File:Word 2007 Page zoom.png)

Thanks for uploading File:Word 2007 Page zoom.png. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:07, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

HDD Video

You recently posted an video to the HDD article that was uploaded to the commons by William S. Hammack and I see from yr contributions you have added a number of other Hammack (aka engineeringuy) videos to various articles. Is there any relationship between you and Hammack? If so, the posting may be improper.

The Hammack HDD video is pretty good but I don't think it belongs in the lede and I'm not sure it should be in an article since about half way thru it I saw what appeared to be an advertisement. I don't have time to edit any ads out of the video, but I am going to move it into the article to a point where I think it is more appropriate. Tom94022 (talk) 15:57, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

There's no relation between me and Hammack. I've seen that several of his videos do provide a good overview of certain topics so I've added them to the articles. Being lazy, I took the BRD approach, so if you don't believe a video belongs, feel free to move it around or remove it. Some articles lack animation/video, so these may be helpful. (Also, in Hammack's defense, I emailed Hammack, and he stated that he doesn't add videos to avoid a COI).Smallman12q (talk) 18:42, 13 June 2012 (UTC)

Still need reviews for the Wikipedia Education Program research project

Hey, Smallman! If you have some time to review the quality of some articles, we're using the results for a really important research project that will help shape the future of the US/Canada Education Program. For a few projects, we're on a pretty tight timeline and are really eager to have many more of these articles reviewed over the next week. However, we think it's most useful to come from experienced Wikipedia editors.

I have gone through each class to prioritize for various projects, and everyone on the Education team at the Wikimedia Foundation would be extremely grateful if you could participate by reviewing a few articles ('pre' and 'post' versions). If we can rally a lot of editors to review one or two articles each day, we will be able to make the most use of this research for our tight timeline. As many of our Ambassadors have requested it, we are really eager to find out which classes have been successful according to the Wikipedian standard.

If you can spare some time, please check out these priority articles and give it a go. Even 1 or 2 a day would help immensely! JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 02:12, 15 June 2012 (UTC)

Coordinator sought for the US National Archives WikiProject

Greetings, WikiProject US National Archives member!

We are seeking a coordinator to help reboot the project and work on new initiatives! The role is modeled after other Wikiproject coordinators, like the WikiProject Military History coordinators. The coordinator will work with the Wikipedian in Residence to organize and increase participation in the WikiProject, with the goal that the WikiProject is an active space for collaboration maintained by and for the Wikipedia editors, rather than the National Archives.

Please see the full information at Wikipedia:GLAM/NARA/Coordinator and contact me is you have any questions. Feel free to pass this note along to any interested parties. Thanks! Dominic·t 21:06, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Case Studies brochure

Hi Smallman12q, thanks for the feedback. The trouble arises when students often work in groups or when other editors contribute to an article while students are working on it -- professors generally find going edit-by-edit through students' work time consuming, and there's no very easy way for them to do something like "show all edits to this page by XX username" without installing something like WikiTrust. Hope that clarifies a bit what I meant! -- LiAnna Davis (WMF) (talk) 06:20, 6 July 2012 (UTC)

Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)

Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

It also asks some basic questions about what you like about the Credo program and what you might want to improve.

At this time only the initial 400 editors have accounts, but even if you do not have an account, you still might want to weigh in on which resources would be most valuable for the community (for example, through WikiProject Resource Exchange).

Also, if you have an account but no longer want to use it, please leave me a note so another editor can take your spot.

If you have any other questions or comments, drop by my talk page or email me at wikiocaasi@yahoo.com. Cheers! Ocaasi t | c 17:33, 11 July 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for August 29

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited H2NO, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page The Glass House (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Proposed deletion of Toy piano festival

The article Toy piano festival has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

There is no indication of the importance or notability of this festival.

MelanieN (talk) 03:28, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for your commonsense alternative to this proposed deletion! --MelanieN (talk) 17:52, 20 August 2012 (UTC)

Fall 2012 Online Ambassador Program

Hi, Smallman!

Just trying to update the census for Online Ambassadors this coming term. If you're still planning to work with a class in the US and Canada Education Program this Fall, please add your name to this census. Once the new class list is available, I will notify you guys so you can sign up for a class (or two) that interests you. I hope you're still interested in supporting these students for the coming term; you got really great feedback last semester from the many classes with whom you worked! Thanks for everything! JMathewson (WMF) (talk) 20:39, 7 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I'm an instructor for Brain and Behavior at Roosevelt University, and my students will be editing existing Wikipedia articles as part of a class project this Fall. I and my students are newbies. I've completed the trainig at 12. I'm wondering if you might be one of our class's online ambassadors? I've constructed most of my course page at 13. I anticipate that we'll need your help with questions about editing and making sure that we're all complying with Wikipedia guidelines. It would also be great if you could read some of the students' articles and provide feedback. Please let me know if you're able to help out. Thanks! Neuropsychprof (talk) 20:05, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi, I would love to have you as an OA for my Brain and Behavior course. Thank you for making time out of your busy schedule! Neuropsychprof (talk) 13:41, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I've been thinking about editing some pages so I'll have some experience. Thanks for the reminder! Neuropsychprof (talk) 05:28, 23 August 2012 (UTC)
I just added a sentence to the bipolar disorders article. Do you mind taking a look to make sure my in-text citation and reference are ok? I used the "cite" template. Thanks! Neuropsychprof (talk) 06:05, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you would be willing to serve as an online ambassador to my course, Cognition. I noticed that you have been an online ambassador for Cognitive Psychology courses previously, and was wondering if you would be willing to do that for my course as well. The course is during the Fall 2012 semester, and has 20 upper division undergraduate psychology students enrolled. If you are not able to, I understand. I appreciate your consideration. Thank you. Jbboron (talk) 20:52, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Great, thank you very much. As you mentioned 14 I will work on the getting my course page created, and update you once it's ready.I appreciate your willingness to help. Sincerely, Jbboron (talk) 03:50, 18 August 2012 (UTC)

Cognition lab

Hi Smallman12q, I have created my course page as you suggested Cognition Lab, Dr. Julie Boron. I also have specific due dates for each part of the assignment. All students must create an account by September 6, and the project completion date is December 6. When you have a chance, let me know what you think of the page. I can add a detailed timeline if that would be helpful, as well as resource links. I appreciate your help. Please let me know if there is anything I should do in the mean time as well. Thank you! Jbboron (talk) 00:05, 22 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi Smallman, I've updated my course timeline, including assignment dates and plans for the course. Thank you very much for the base timeline, that was very helpful, and such a great resource. If you have a chance, could you take a look at my edits, and let me know what you think. Thank you! Jbboron (talk) 20:32, 28 August 2012 (UTC)
I see you've updated the timeline. Looks good. I added "Note the article's structure, tone, and coverage of the topic." to Wikipedia:United_States_Education_Program/Courses/Cognition_Lab_(Dr._Julie_Boron)/Timeline#Week_3_.28September_6.29:_Exploring_the_topic_area. A lot of times, new editors have trouble adjusting to the format and style of writing an article, but it becomes straight-forward once you see the difference. I've also added a link to [[See Wikipedia:Training/For students which contains an outline of the basics. If you have further questions, feel free to ask me here or by email (I sent you one). Cheers.Smallman12q (talk) 01:16, 29 August 2012 (UTC)
