Question from Shipo0nAli (13:47, 30 March 2024) edit

Can i change my account in another language. Coz my mother language is Bengali, so i need too contribute my language. --Shipo0nAli (talk) 13:47, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Shipo0nAli you should be able to use this account in the Bengali wikipedia. If you go to https://bn.wikipedia.org/ and try to log in with your current username and password, does that work? Rusalkii (talk) 18:11, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Alberony Denis (05:01, 2 April 2024) edit

Hey how you doing . How do I edit a specific article or page in Wikipedia. --Alberony Denis (talk) 05:01, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Alberony Denis! There should be a "Edit" button in the top right of the page. Make the changes you want to the page and then hit the blue "Publish changes" button in the top right. You can see Help:Wikipedia: The Missing Manual/Editing, creating, and maintaining articles/Editing for the first time and Help:Editing for more. Rusalkii (talk) 22:20, 2 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

New Pages Patrol newsletter April 2024 edit

Hello Rusalkii,

New Page Review queue January to March 2024

Backlog update: The October drive reduced the article backlog from 11,626 to 7,609 and the redirect backlog from 16,985 to 6,431! Congratulations to Schminnte, who led with over 2,300 points.

Following that, New Page Patrol organized another backlog drive for articles in January 2024. The January drive started with 13,650 articles and reduced the backlog to 7,430 articles. Congratulations to JTtheOG, who achieved first place with 1,340 points in this drive.

Looking at the graph, it seems like backlog drives are one of the only things keeping the backlog under control. Another backlog drive is being planned for May. Feel free to participate in the May backlog drive planning discussion.

It's worth noting that both queues are gradually increasing again and are nearing 14,034 articles and 22,540 redirects. We encourage you to keep contributing, even if it's just a single patrol per day. Your support is greatly appreciated!

2023 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2023 cup with 17,761 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 50/day. There was one Platinum Award (10,000+ reviews), 2 Gold Awards (5000+ reviews), 6 Silver (2000+), 8 Bronze (1000+), 30 Iron (360+) and 70 more for the 100+ barnstar. Hey man im josh led on redirect reviews by clearing 36,175 of them. For the full details, see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone for their efforts in reviewing!

WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers deployed the rewritten NewPagesFeed in October, and then gave the NewPagesFeed a slight visual facelift in November. This concludes most major work to Special:NewPagesFeed, and most major work by the WMF Moderator Tools team, who wrapped up their major work on PageTriage in October. The WMF Moderator Tools team and volunteer software developers will continue small work on PageTriage as time permits.

Recruitment: A couple of the coordinators have been inviting editors to become reviewers, via mass-messages to their talk pages. If you know someone who you'd think would make a good reviewer, then a personal invitation to them would be great. Additionally, if there are Wikiprojects that you are active on, then you can add a post there asking participants to join NPP. Please be careful not to double invite folks that have already been invited.

Reviewing tip: Reviewers who prefer to patrol new pages within their most familiar subjects can use the regularly updated NPP Browser tool.

Question from Etherealmaya (13:27, 5 April 2024) edit

Can I create an article? --Etherealmaya (talk) 13:27, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Etherealmaya yes, you can. You can see Help:Your first article for a detailed tutorial. Just make sure that you have several reliable sources that are independent of the article subject -- Wikipedia policies require there to be a couple high quality sources so we can be sure that we're covering the subject fairly and accurately. Books, newspaper articles, and published papers are usually a good bet.
As a new user you'll need to submit your article for review at WP:Articles for Creation, which means an experienced editor will go over it and either accept it or let you know what needs to be improved. Rusalkii (talk) 18:22, 5 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from CylinBusbyRoss (17:12, 8 April 2024) edit

Hi! I'd like to update the author photo on my own Wiki page--it's out of date. I've just created an account. I'll try to do it on my own, but might need some help. If you have any other suggestions for editing my page, please let me know. I appear as "Cylin Busby" Thanks!! --CylinBusbyRoss (talk) 17:12, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @CylinBusbyRoss! You'll want to follow the instructions at Wikipedia:File upload wizard to upload the file to Commons, and then replace the file name currently on the page ("Cylin Busby.jpg") with the new file name. Note that you'll be releasing the photo under a Wikipedia-compatible license, which means it needs to be your own work. If it's taken by another photographer, they have the copyright and they'll need to be the ones to release it.
If you're editing your own page, you need to follow the conflict of interest policies, which means at minimum declaring the conflict of interest on your user page (User:CylinBusbyRoss). If you're just uploading a new picture don't worry about anything else, but if you're making any other edits you should read WP:COIE. If you're going to non-trivial edits you should make them through an edit request rather than editing the page directly. Rusalkii (talk) 17:24, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! I think it worked. CylinBusbyRoss (talk) 17:40, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I see it! I've moved it into the infobox for you. Rusalkii (talk) 17:47, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
I didn't know how to do that so I just deleted the old photo that had been up for years. Appreciate your help :) CylinBusbyRoss (talk) 17:49, 8 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Samuel okwong (04:09, 9 April 2024) edit

Hello,how do I create Citation --Samuel okwong (talk) 04:09, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Samuel okwong in the editor, there should be a "Cite" button in the middle of the top bar. Once you click on that, it'll give you the option to automatically generate one from a URL or fill out the form to create one manually. There's a tutorial at Help:Introduction to referencing with VisualEditor/2. Rusalkii (talk) 04:23, 9 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Lenimsa on User:Lenimsa (14:05, 19 April 2024) edit

Hello sir , I want to now that can I post some funny side stories on my page? --Lenimsa (talk) 14:05, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Which page? Usually we don't put side stories on wikipedia pages, unless there is a reliable source which talks about them and they're important to understand the topic. If the page is about you you should usually not edit it. Rusalkii (talk) 16:39, 19 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from Mehnud (15:25, 24 April 2024) edit

Hello Rusalki, I want to fix the Uzbek alphabet, I want to create Unicode and write a new text, but I need your help for this, how would you recommend, the Uzbek language alphabet is very outdated, I need a new version, thanks for the answer --Mehnud (talk) 15:25, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Mehnud, I don't know anything about the Uzbekn alphabet, sorry. I can help answer questions about editing Wikipedia. Rusalkii (talk) 16:08, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
If you mean adding Unicode to the page Uzbek alphabet, if you open the editor there's a button to insert special characters. Rusalkii (talk) 16:13, 24 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from JoeRosenstein (00:28, 25 April 2024) edit

Hello mentor Rusalskii -- I made my annual contribution and was asked if I wanted to be an editor for Wikipedia -- I can edit pages dealing with mathematics and pages dealing with Judaism -- I have several questions to ask -- do you assign me pages to review -- or do I pick pages -- I know of at least one article that is incorrect in that it only presents one perspective of what happened -- I would like to edit that so that the other perspective is present as well -- I would also like to post a Wikipedia page about myself -- will I be able to do that -- I am a Distinguished Professor Emeritus of Mathematics and have published a number of books related to Judaism as well -- so having a Wikipedia page is quite reasonable -- I look forward to your response -- Joe Rosenstein --JoeRosenstein (talk) 00:28, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi Joe, thanks for taking the invitation to edit here! No one assigns you pages, you can work on whatever you're interested in. You can edit the article you think only presents one perspective, though make sure that everything you add is cited to reliable, neutral sources.
It's generally discouraged to write an article about yourself or anyone very closely associated with you; you can read the conflict of interest policy at WP:COIE. Rusalkii (talk) 17:06, 25 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Question from ShaneMatthews (17:28, 26 April 2024) edit

Im having such a hard time getting my first article up. Is It possible to have a collaborator help or edit the page? Thank you! --ShaneMatthews (talk) 17:28, 26 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I assume the page is Draft:Fitch Means. It looks like you got a couple pieces of feedback: move citations next to the information they support, and rewrite it to be more neutral in tone. For the first, for each sentence, find the source that supports it and move the footnote to the end of the sentence. If there's any information in the article where you can't find a source for it, remove it. For example:
On Wikipedia, you need to use inline citations for information about living people.[1]
The tone is more difficult. You want to be really sure it doesn't sound like you're advertising the subject or editorializing -- see WP:NPOV. For example, you don't want to say "soulful melodies and poignant storytelling" unless an independent source has described him that way, and in that case you'll say something like "Jane Smith at the New York Times described his music as....". Some other problematic phrases might be "musical journey", "gained recognition" (what does that mean? if it means he played there a lot say that, if it means he was popular you need a source for that) "electrifying" "reputation as a dynamic artist", "mesmerizing", etc. These aren't the only issues, but I hope these examples help. In general, the goal is that the person reading the article can't tell if you like or dislike the subject - it should just neutrally report facts. Note also that if you're the artist himself or paid or associated with him, see our conflict of interest guidelines. Rusalkii (talk) 19:16, 26 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
