Calgary Flames and "New Jersey"

Howdy, NuclearWarfare, I've noticed that two or three times now, you have attempted to fix a "typo" in the "C of Red" section by capitalizing the words "new jersey". In this case, the words "new jersey" are refering to a new uniform design, not the much maligned American state, as such, it is intended for the words to be in lower case. I thought I'd mention it so as to save your time in fixing this again, and mine in reverting it again.  ;) Cheers! Resolute 04:56, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

  • headdesks* That would make much more sense. I looked at it and I thought that New Jersey would not make much sense in the sentence, but I could not think of an alternate definition of it.
Man, I really ought to lay off fixing typos late at night. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 13:18, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Hi, my draft is up at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BCC_Research. What do I do now to let people know that it is a draft? And thus prevent people tagging it for deletion. Also apparently the talk page of the article was also protected. Any additional help you could offer would be most appreciated. Stuartfost (talk) 23:25, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
Well, you don't have to do anything to prevent people from deleting it. Because A) It is worthwhie enough as its own article now and B) Many people will argue against deleting it in a motion for deletion. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 00:12, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

The title must have told you something, "idiotic kids, with idiotic junk". But we assure you this, this game (which we believe to be much a sport as any other) was not just created today or the day before. Yes, it does say that the official rules were created yesterday. The truth is, the game has been around in our area...but so many people have been confused to the rules of the game. We needed a way to get the rules out so that many people can play without confusion.

And broom cannon is far from just "idiotic junk". It is not something come up to create rough housing and violence. It does have a point system, it does promote sportsman ship, and it is strongly against extreme violence; of course, violence does happen in sports.

However, that is not the only purpose for us to write to you. Because we enjoy this game along side others, we decided that why keep this fun to ourselves? Why could we not give a possibility to other people to enjoy this game?

And then we realized that wikipedia, a free, safe, and widely known internet source was the best place.

No, we are not trying to advertise. We do not profit from any of this. We merely are trying to share. And if sharing is not what Wikipedia was made for, we do not know what its true purpose is.

We hope that you will have a change of heart viewing our article. Yes, it's rough and at this moment just seems like a little scribble by some kids. It is indeed so, for now. If we do have more time, we are sure that we can polish it and show our true purpose for writing the article.

We hope you can help us in this matter. And please give us some hints or tips on improving our article. Thank you Brotos (talk) 07:27, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm afraid you have misunderstood the purpose of Wikipedia. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not an indiscriminate collection of facts and neighborhood stories.. As an encyclopedia, we have to use reliable sources, such as books or news reports, to cite our comments. If something has been written about in a book or news report, it is generally notable enough to include. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 13:25, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

RE: Pete Draganic

I understand that you wish to delete this page for a number of reasons however I believe that those are unjustified.

I am a notable figure with statewide recognition.

I am a twice-elected multi-office public official.

I have been officially reported on by dozens of recognized news sources (newspaper, televison and radio) throughout Ohio. I have electronic copies of most print media stories of which I was aware.

I have been covered by numerous blogs on Ohio politics.

I have been included in polling with regard to the Governor's race.

A simple Google on my name returns thousands of results.

I am the ONLY one of 180 candidates for council this past election that was funded by the Republican Party.

I won a council election against the well-funded and well-connected godson of congressman and presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich. My opponent spent 10 times the monety I did on his election effort.

I ask that you please consider preserving my article given the facts above. It was once posted by someone else when I was a candidate for governor and subsequently removed due to the fact that I had not attained office and therefore was not condsidered notable. However, given my recent successes and interest surrounding me I believe that I have attined some element of notability and this article will serve to inform interested readers along the way as to my background... an important resource on any rising political figure.

I appreciate your sincere consideration.

Committed Identity

{{helpme}}

I was looking to set up a committed identity. I read Template:User committed identity, but I could hardly make sense of it. What's a one way hash ;) ? Anyone want to walk me through step by step? NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 04:05, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Here are some step-by-step instructions that should help:
  1. Think of a phrase, or a secret string, that only you will remember and that no one will ever guess. "My name is Joe Schmoe, and I can be contacted at: joe@schmoe.com" or something
  2. Go to http://www.hashemall.com/
  3. Enter the string into the edit box.
  4. In the yellow "Algorithm" box, click "SHA 512bit"
  5. Go back to the edit box and press the [Hash this text>] button
  6. On the next page will be the hash in a salmony coloured box
  7. On your WP userpage, enter :{{User committed identity|hash|hash function used|background=CSS color|border=CSS color|article=grammatical article for the hash function}}
Italicized text should be replaced with appropriate input, or its parameter should be removed. :Parameters are represented by 'parameter=value", and separated by vertical bars |.
  • Replace "hash" with the hash produced from your secret string. The implicit name of this parameter is "1" (see numeric parameters).
  • The "hash function used" parameter, if not included, defaults to SHA-512. (This hash function is recommended.)
  • The "background" parameter, if not included, defaults to #E0E8FF (light blue, see Web colors#Hex triplet)
  • The "border" parameter, if not included, also defaults to #E0E8FF.
  • The "article" parameter, if not included, defaults to "a". The other likely value is "an".
If your hash is "ef7c4c55a176bd20ed558aaefde21c4803080195", and you want a light orange box with a black border, use the following code
{{User committed identity|ef7c4c55a176bd20ed558aaefde21c4803080195|background=#FC9|border=#000}}
to produce
Committed identity: ef7c4c55a176bd20ed558aaefde21c4803080195 is a SHA-512 commitment to this user's real-life identity.

Hurricane pages, like Hurricane Hanna (2008) have wind speed and other information on them, in terms of knots, MPH and KPH, which come prerounded from the NHC; e.g. gusting to 65 knots | 75 mph | 120 km/h. Your recent edit to Hanna turned this into: gusting to 65 knots | 75 mph (121 km/h) | 120 km/h. This wasn't very helpful.--Prosfilaes (talk) 01:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Hey, I reverted the edits on the Hanna 2008 page, the page was Vandelized with and explicit profanity, I did this after several attempts to refresh the page and got the same message. Since I could not figure out how the code was inserted into your edit I simply re-edited the page back to Prosfilaes last edit, you made four changes to dates. I am not sure if there is a bug in wiki or some other tampering went on, but since the revert worked I figure the bug is somewhere in the code. Sorry.PB666 yap 01:43, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

Karens (hiking)

Why do you believe that the article Karens (hiking) should be deleted? It is a valid article and I will be adding imgages of what a Karen looks like. People need to know what they are just like people need to know about World War Two. Or are you going to request that be deleted too?

Majorly RfC

I have reverted[1] your edit to this RfC. Your edit summary stated that you were indenting your vote but you actually indented the vote of Cyclonenim. I assume you made a mistake and just put ":" in the wrong place. However, especially since the RfC is closed, I did not feel comfortable indenting your vote there myself. So I just plain reverted. Marking "patrolled"

I think it's a bigger waste of time to mark 'em, unless you've got software that automates the process. I'd rather have extra eyes on new page patrol, myself. --Orange Mike | Talk 00:38, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

I've always thought it was really easy to do so. I have twinkle, so I click csd, pick my rationale, and then use my scrolling thing on my mouse to click on the "mark as patrolled tab." After a while, I can just close all of the tabs that were opened. And that process frees up another editor :) NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 00:41, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Yea... I saw. When you renominate, let me know if you need help with anything. I'm not going to stay away, but I won't be very active in it. I hate FLC's... 72.140.46.227 Changes

I am wondering why you are reverting 72.140.46.227 reverts of Cydebot. The anon user is essentially readding templates to pages that have been recreated, you are undoing those changes. I will be reverting your changes, as I am unsure as to why you have made them. Please get back to me. - NeutralHomerTalk 03:36, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

OK. - NeutralHomerTalk 03:38, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
All right. Thanks for holding off temporarily. So anyway, a few days ago, there was a DCMA notice that Neilson filed. Wikipedia's legal counsel advised Wikipedia to remove all such content that was copied from Neilson[2]. I see that you were involved in said discussion, so I don't believe I need to go into more detail.
Anyway, this user was essentially doing a mass add in of blank templates. Since those templates have no use as of now, and possibly never will, I warned the user. The user was seemingly uncommunicative; he wiped his talk page and continued doing his additions of blank templates. II filed an WP:AIV request[3] and proceeded to revert. Administator "Academic Challenger" agreed with my AIV request and blocked the user, so I took that as a confirmation that my actions were correct.
Please, if you have questions, post away. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 03:49, 27 September 2008 (UTC)
Actually, in most cases, he was reverting to templates that were being or had been rebuilt. Like with WJAC-TV, the Johnstown template has been rebuilt, same with Hampton Roads, Pittsburgh, Anchorage, Harrisburg, among many others. He actually was saving us some work of having to readd the templates to pages.
While, yes, in some cases, he was adding blank templates, those will be rebuilt within the coming couple days. I would liked the anon user to have responded to your post on his talk page, that is unfortunate.
Would it be OK to revert the pages that have current, rebuilt templates and leave the others until those templates are made? - NeutralHomerTalk 03:54, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

I see that I might have epically failed :( I had no clue about this until a few minutes ago, and it seems I acted unknowingly against consensus. I did think these templates were empty from the few I viewed, but perhaps that wasn't the case with all of them.

I give you "permission" to revert all of my edits without prejudice and I hereby offer my apologies to you, the anonymous user, User:Academic Challenger, and any Wikiproject member who might have been affected by this. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 03:56, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Couple of questions

I'm not exactly sure which of my reverts you were referring to. I only reverted that IP's edit on your talk page. I hope that was okay, since it was against WP:DTTR. Also, just out of curiosity, what was the reason behind reverting addition of those templates. LeaveSleaves (talk) 03:37, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

you just reverted a revert of vandalism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elfen_Lied <- go here, i was merely clearing off some vandalism. i had just read the novels and was looking into the wiki. the thing was copied and pasted several dozen times. after looking into the history i learned that the paged had been vandelised in the past, and when it was reverted your vandalism bot caught it. i even put in the summary that it was a false positive. if you would like to help, please do so as i do not want to start a revert war. 98.199.243.39 (talk) 04:24, 27 September 2008 (UTC)

Deleted account

Hi there,

I recently stayed at one of Eight Hotel Australia's hotels and I was impressed with the way the hotel looked and the way I was treated by the staff. After my stay I did some more research on the hotel chain, but when I got on Wikipedia to look for them, there was no article yet. So I decided to create one. After I was done it got deleted and I was told that I was advertising. How do I get around this, because as far as I'm concerned I only named facts and no opinions whatsoever. I hope you can explain what I am doing wrong.

Best wishes,

Ehkevin (talk) 04:00, 2 October 2008 (UTC)

It wasn't what you wrote, it was more the way you wrote it. When you wrote it, you used phrasing such as "Eight Hotels Australia owns an eclectic collection of independently named boutique hotels defined by centralised management. Eight Hotels was formed in 2002 with the single vision to create Australia's finest privately owned boutique hotel collection."
This should have been written as "Eight Hotels Australia, founded in 2002, owns several different hotels around Australia."

    • (edit conflict) It's an odd request, and certainly not one you're obliged to fulfill; repeatedly demanding another user's personal information could arguably be seen as violating our policy regarding Wikipedia:Harassment. Certainly the community has strongly rejected numerous proposals that would require editors to identify by their real names. That said, I'm not sure why you would "ban" the user from your talk page for asking once -- wouldn't it be easier to just decline to answer? New pages patrolling

Hi there NuclearWarfare. Never knew about the marking of new pages! I'm actually not checking the new pages per se, I'm using Vandal Fighter to do some anti-vandalism work (it just so happens that quite a lot of vandalism is through new pages!) Unfortunately it would appear that when you link to a new page through vandal fighter, it doesn't count it as going through WP:NPPLOG and so doesn't bring up the option to mark as patrolled.

Thanks for the info though, well worth remembering in the future! --Samtheboy (t/c) 22:02, 8 October 2008 (UTC)

Ah, oh well. Perhaps you want to check out User:J.delanoy/newpage.js? It's a new page patrolling script. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 23:22, 8 October 2008 (UTC)
What does the script actually do? There's no info on it there :D --Samtheboy (t/c) 05:18, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps I should have told you that :) Underneath the navigation, search and interaction boxes on the left hand side of the page, it adds a new box called "new pages." If you hit "enable this box," it expands to a list of the 50 most recent new pages, with a yellow background for those that haven't been patrolled. It's like a handier Special:NewPages. NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 15:06, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

NPP

Unfortunately, Twinkle will not mark a page as patrolled when it also marks it for speedy. Frequently, by the time I get back to marking a page as patrolled (which involves another step, somewhat defeating the purpose of Twinkle), the article is already gone. So I simply stopped taking the extra step, as it was a waste of time. I've often found others not doing this and I will call up a new page that has been marked for speedy but not as patrolled, and I'll mark it as patrolled. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 17:08, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

I do know this, as I use twinkle as well. One way I have found to get around this is to open ten or so unpatrolled pages at a time and check them. If they need to be deleted, I'll tag this with Twinkle and use the mouse wheel to click on the Mark as Patrolled link before the page refreshes. After all of this, I just do a mass close of all the tabs I open. Do you want to try this? It would really help out. :) NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 17:11, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

Hello NuclearWarfare. Thank you very much for your support in my recent Request for Adminship, which was successful with 111 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. I have to say I am more than a little overwhelmed by this result and I greatly appreciate your trust in me. I will do my best to use the tools wisely. Thanks again. Regards. AFD relistings

When relisting an AFD please don't forget to remove or comment out the transclusion of that AFD on the old page and place it on the new page instead. Stifle (talk) 00:04, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I've been using script to relist AfDs. Perhaps I will refrain from doing so until it is fixed. Do you want to pop a note to the author? NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 00:26, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Page move (GPRS Tunnelling)

Hello. Why did you move the page GPRS Tunnelling Protocol before the discussion period was over? see Talk:GPRS Tunnelling Protocol#Requested_move: the move is contested, and that even the nominator now seems to disagree with the move. Can I suggest to move it back, until a consensus is reached? Cheers 87.115.25.106 (talk) 19:43, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alexander Zorich

I'm not sure if I'm a fan of this close. The value of the sources were still in dispute since they weren't in English. I think this was one of those where it needed admin eyes to close. After all, AfD's not backlogged, it's not in need of NACs. Granted, at worst it was a no consensus so I'm not gonna fight it. If nothing else, keep in mind that if you are looking at RFA soon (which you are i guess based on the admin coaching), NACs are definitely frowned upon there. Best to limit them if you can. Thanks for the advice on AfD closing in general. I'll be sure to only close really obvious ones in the future.
As for this particular AfD, I still think it was the right call. You nominator "vote" and the "delete per nom" "vote" both happened early on in the AfD. Also, Mikka added a couple of refs to back up that article after you both "voted", and Phil Bridger's comment that the refs were indeed legitimate were good enough for me. I saw the decision as keep, not no consensus; could you tell me why you would have closed it as no consensus? NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 20:34, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, basically since the refs weren't in English, I would have been cautious about them establishing notability, hence no consensus instead of keep. granted, in either case the article is in a better state than it was. I guess it was just the deletionist in me that saw it differently. Wizardman 21:05, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Well, I guess we'll just chalk it up to differing points of view about WP:N. No hard feelings about this, right :) NuclearWarfare contact meMy work 21:06, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
Right. The article has refs now, so although I can't read them at least they exist. Wizardman 21:11, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
